New Project - Armored Assault

I have started work with Idan on our next project - Armored Assault

 

We will use the domination base but with 4 specific AO's and AI modified to include less infantry (almost none) and more Armor.

 

We will have 2 elements,

 

Delta recon - 2 Humvees (TOW and Avenger)

 

Alpha, Bravo and Charlie - M1A2 Tusks

Echo - M6 Linebacker

MC+2iC - Salvage Truck

 

Each squad has 4 members

 

The idea is to recon an approach with Delta squad, then attack with Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Echo. The salvage truck will be to repair, rearm and refuel. Each squad has a medic and an engineer, If we dont have enough people to fill the tanks we should take those 2 slots first. Anti air will be available in every vehicle should the avenger be unable to deal with air threats.

 

As before we will practice movement and use of the weaponry

 

I am working on an ACE version of takistan domination so clearly ACE will be required, we are looking for a mod that improves armor speed to a more realistic level. This is a work in progress and we should be ready for training next week. I also want to move the base to the Northern Airfield. We will need to train as my previous experiences with armored assault have been, at best, weak.(with one exception).

As some of you have discovered there is a version on the server

It is still a work in progress but for the most part it is good to go.

 

I gave the MC and 2iC the ability to build a FARP

 

The Bradley is an MHQ giving you satellite imagery as well.

 

Enjoy and please report any bugs, we will give this a bash on Saturday.

We play it for a little bit ;)

 

It would be nice if CO can call supply truck required to build farp instead of jackal/ ambulance and with greater default range. Lets say 1000m instead of 500

The vehicles that can build FARPS are named and in the editor, dropped vehicles cannot be named. there may be another way to do this But I dont know how.

This might not be the right time/place to bring this up but how are communications going to be set up for Armoured Assault?

 

I imagine that the crew in a vehicle will need to talk to one another a fair bit which might generate quite a bit of chatter if we have multiple crews on the same channel.

Update for the server today

 

M2A3 replaced with M6 Linebacker (for its anti air ability), this vehicle is the MHQ which will enable players to use its Satellite view

 

Because the tanks take so long to rearm I have added 4 more vehicle service points at the base.

 

All tank crew are engineers except for the medic (although only one can build a Farp, which doesnt make a lot of difference).

 

More to come.

So we played a bit yesterday.

 

I actually think the importance to have the Engineer Truck following the team is a bit underestimated.

 

In this kind of mission i see the Salvage truck more important than having an MHQ around.

I noticed our Tusks most of the time are not completely destroyed. They sustain tough damage, the crew may die and the tank probably will be with no fuel.

 

A Field Supporting action at this point makes the difference to repair, rearm and refuel. It is challenging and more interesting than the option to call a "Tank on demand" by air delivery.

 

In fact, on the first Zeno post the Field Engineer squad (Truck + Humveee) is there.

 

Probably being a Field Engineer, taking care of the truck safety is not exactly the most exciting job in the mission, but I think has a great value. At the same time I am quite sure not everybody feel so comfortable as Tank Driver or Gunner. Who struggle in those duties could be a valid Field Engineer.

 

If I am on game, I offer myself for that position. I do enjoy it.

 

However, I think the Field Engeneer Team should be at least 2 enginners, possibly 3. One driving the truck and 1 or 2 in an Humvee TOW as escort.
