Great News, about time.

PS

Associated Press in Washington is quoting a US official as saying Osama Bin Laden's body has been buried at sea.

Translation: They dumped his body out of the plane on the way back home. This changes everything, for the good.

heh, thought I'd share this. Wrestler John Cena announces it to the crowd

At first the burial at sea concept upset me. I think there is a (grotesque may it be) need for people to visually see the body and confirm to themselves that it isn't a hoax. And I'm sure some nice lad took a picture or 20 on his iPhone in a nice pose.. and WikiLeaks will share if our govt doesn't.

But after thinking about it - No country or state would want that guy buried on their lawn. It would only create a focal point to bringing out the worst in everyone and immortalize him. Would it eventually turn into a shrine for terrorists to pray toward? Turn into a place where people would bomb? Protests and riots?

Maybe its best he's swimming with the fishes.

I am so agree with this comment.

However, besides all the noise and news distribution, it would have been nice to have some phisical confirmation that the one threw at sea was indeed "the one".

I don t think we will ever have the pleasure to know that. Let s simply say Gvt put an official end to Bin Laden life.

There were rumors he was already dead quite long ago. Never really confirmed nor proved. Buttom line.. I do not really care. Body or not Body I have the USA President stating Bin Laden is dead with no exceptions. I will take his word.

It is time of relieve. Celebration, probably... too many lifes are gone just to catch this M..Fkr.

I hope no other Terrorist, doesn t matter his nationality or religion will ever think to emulate this asshole.

Que ArmA2 (and any other shooter with map tools) mods/missions designed around this assault. Navy SEALs, always stealing the glory. :P

I know one thing is for sure. Those men will never have to pay for a drink ever again in their life. XD American heroes.

I hope that some navy seaman teabagged him and then stuffed a pockchop in his mouth before they tossed him off the ship.

This man wanted to fight americans and declared war on us. At the end we found him hiding in a mansion hiding behind women. Fucking coward. I bet my 8 year son is braver than that.

I spotted this last night too... thought it was worth posting.

Check out the pics of the wreckage. This must be some heavily modified version of an SH-60. The news reports said it had technology to help evade radar, I'm wondering if this isn't some unheard of variant with stealth or something.

LOL at the look on Mrs. Clinton's face. She clearly does not have the stomach for these sorts of things. I remember when she tried to tell the people of New York that we should fight the terrorists but should try to understand them. She was boo'd.

According to Reuters, it was a BH. I am thinking it was just up armored a bit. Some of it doesn't look right, but it 'doesn't look right' where its weakest points are like the shield on the tail rotor.

- Why shoot him dead and not arrest him?

- Why throw him into the sea and do not bury him?

- Why hurry to get rid of the body before confirm (DNA test, fingerprints, teeth, etc.) that the body is him not an pakistani shepard?

Strange things happen in strange lands...

Why arrest him when you can kill him? (See all kinds of people taken hostage until he is released)

Why bury him (creating a monument, or giving him a dignified sendoff he doesn't deserve) when you can dump him? Whoops, sorry about being slightly un-islamic. Our bad.

Why hang on to the body when you've got DNA, fingerprints?

It was confirmed by DNA and the fact that when we the suvivors who the guy was that was missing part of his head they all said it was Bin Ladan.

What good is he alive to anybody? He wouldn't have released any information to us. The man deserved to die. He died cowering behind his wife and sons to American soldiers, and that puts a smile on my face every day I wake up.

There are pictures and video of the operation, but they wont be released any time soon. If diplomatic negotiations in Afghanistan with the local population crumbles because of one photo, all that hard work and lives lost would be for nothing. I have to agree with the Prez on this one.

I'll offer another set of answers, out of order.

2) Burial at sea is an accetpable Muslim tradition and it denies his followers a monument of any kind. Not to mention the fact that no one wanted his body on their soil.

3) See above. I agree that releasing photos of him would have inflamed anti-Western sentiments in many parts of the Middle East.

1) Here's the big one. Because shooting him is quick. Ideally, I would have loved to see him dragged back to the US, tried in NY and then executed. But that's a terrible idea for several reasons: i) As long as he was being held there would be a huge incentive for his followers to take hostages or commit other acts of terrorism to get him released. ii) It would take FOREVER to have him actually executed. Death row inmates stay there for years as it is and the higher-profile the case, the longer it lasts. iii) It would be impossible to find an impartial jury anywhere in the US or Europe. Ultimately, keeping him alive that long would dilute the sense of satisfaction and closure that his swift death brought us. Very smart, VERY political move.

- Why shoot him dead and not arrest him?

Did we? With the known information of past experience and the most useful thing for our intelligence operation would it not be in our best interests to wound him give the impression that he is dead then lock him in a dark hole to beat information out of him?

- Why throw him into the sea and do not bury him?

All of the reasons above would be good reasons however if the above is true, without a body to show as proof that he is dead and everyone involved in the operation and burial sworn to secrecy can you truly prove that he is dead.

- Why hurry to get rid of the body before confirm (DNA test, fingerprints, teeth, etc.) that the body is him not a Pakistani shepard?

Because without the explanation that the body was buried at sea in keeping with Islamic tradition it would have been an issue that could cause many more problems with our already poor relationship with the Islamic world. On the second point why use those if you have him locked in a cell and get to see him every day.

My point is that believing everything we see on CNN and Fox News has brought many nations citizens down to the level of a sheep (no offense). Take the capture of Saddam for instance. When he was captured the video clearly showed the plant life around his hole and the personnel depicted in the capture. Funny thing about that is the plants around him were blooming at a time of year that they don't bloom at, they only bloom during a time 6 months prior to his public capture. The infantry unit depicted in the film is clearly shown so you can see their unit tags however that unit was not in Iraq at the time of the video and were shipped back to the US 5 months prior and immediately reassigned to different postings around the world. So with all of this it seems logically that Saddam was capture 6 months prior and we were told about it after all useful information was extracted from him. What makes anyone believe that this is not the case with Bin Laden? I bet that they release all of these pictures and information in a month or two after sufficient "pressure" has been placed on them and they have extracted all useful Intel.

I am just a lowly citizen trying to get by in this world so believe me or not, make your own decisions don't just listen and repeat.

Personally, and logically in my mind, I could care less about anti-Western sentiments. They were anti-Western before, and they will still be inflamed after. The only way to change that is if the West submitted or didn't exist. They treat their own with less respect than we showed, much much MUCH less, yet they get all up in arms because they know they can exploit a weakness of ours-our attempts at morality. I don't agree with showing war porn, but I also think that the fear of hurting the feelings of our enemies and those who want to be our enemies is the highlight of puss.

Agreed Durka! I don't need to see pics, and see no reason to release them. HOWEVER, I certainly would not avoid releasing them based on whose sensitivities we might be stepping on or who we might inflame. That course still allows them to rule you.

While I'm normally inclined to agree with you Durka, the fact still remains that if we release that photo(s), that it very well could cause even more violence and hatred towards our soldiers. They could use the photo to rally more support against us.

HOWEVER, if you want to hear my real, insensitive/non-diplomatic opinion, I couldn't care less who's offended by it or not. If anything we SHOULD flaunt it a little. I'd probably have it as my desktop background for months. But if it has the potential to put our soldiers at more unnecessary risk, I can wait. It's impossible to prove whether it would or not, but I'd just rather not take that chance right now.
