Hey, here's a poll for all you guys out there to gauge your Arma experience level. It's pretty straightfoward and you can pick one to let everyone else know how knowledgable of the controls and ins/outs of the game. After choosing something, please also list in a post your strongest skill. No more than 2 please.

Also, please list one thing you would like to become better at. Here's a sample format that I will go ahead and list as my own.

Durka-Durka

Skills: Really good at flying choppers, good tactician

Requested Skills: I would like to learn more CQB in-game skills and movement as a group.

Preference: Sniping/SF. Recon.

Dislike: Armour. Vehicle based missions. I prefer to jump/Helo in and then be on foot.

Improvement: Definitely more squad skills, mutual support etc.

I can drive reasonably and am learning vehicle weapons slowly but I have real difficulty with flying (haven't even tried fixed wing)

I prefer on foot stuff and would really like to learn/practice moving/fighting in small groups up to 6 to 8.

I am learning every hour I play this game.

Had to vote sorry lol. Doh!

CQB tactics really dont apply in this game unfortunately. Stacking or breaching like in Swat 4 or Vegas 2, just makes u a juicy target for a 203 or frag. Closest thing is going corner to corner with your ironsight's up. You can still "slice" your corners while walking your sites, so this way is best when taking ur time. If you don't have time and hoofing it through town instead, you prob will need the crosshairs on since most of the time you will be firing from the hip.

We found when clearing out a urban area, rolling in pairs works pretty well. Two 2 man teams bounding through town, separate but relying on each other to provide overwatch as you clear your sector. Movement isn't bunched up, so it's not likely to be as noticed. And if you are caught, the other 2 man team can respond. Works great against humans, not 100% sure on the AI. Guess it depends on how tough they are setup to be.

I like the sniper/laser role the most but I can fly and i like the Vulcan as an armor unit.

Most of the time a helo ride to a safe LZ then hoof in the last click will suffice but what command wants, command gets.

Oh wait.... it would be nice to actually play the damn game for more than ten minutes at a time. :(

(The above still applies though.)

What's a Vulcan ? In the UK it was the first Bomber made to carry the atom bomb in the cold war.

I know your not talking about Mr. Spock

:allgood: Seeing as arma is not much diffrent from ofp i can say i fairly good at driving , as for flying forget it i dont even want to try took me 7 years to learn in ofp, and in arma its much harder. being use to true coop squad play, i can say i could lead a squad with confidence. I also gained my Tankers squad badge in ofp while being with Swaf for 12 months, so can drive, gun and command a tank as well ( whch i love.)

I am use to coop play but working as a team with team speak. ofp and arma are NOT a run and gun type of game. u have to work out a plan and stick to it . each person should be given a job and do your job type of play. its no good flying round a map just because you can.

also i have played matches aganist other teams in ofp and in leages also in clan wars.

The vulcans are out of service now, retired, scraped. The acronyms make perfect sence for describeing what the equipment is. How else would you do it. Right?

Fair comment, but I would call the spaag vads - Dragon Slayer.

This is off topic, my fault. I can shoot the M107, even without the new fangled mods I have a sense for the ranges and corrections required. Not so good with moving targets, especially those traversing my field of view. I would like to improve my infiltration skills. I use vehicles to get to target area but prefer getting into position on foot, I find most vehicles have a short life expectancy, especially when I am in them.

Well this is a turn up for the troops ... Time to get serious now your all do so well and brimming with confidence.

Time to ramp up to Veteran Level AI and lower the revive counter, spawn counter, since you won't need them anyway due to this outfit working like poo on a baby's bum.

BTW ..couldn't see an "I SuXor" vote in the poll, so i never voted.

I think the question structure is bit poor, I know plenty that claim good leadership but are crap

soldiers, drivers. NO SLOT for that group.

Viiiper

Skills: generally good at everything but could get better. Map, orientation, GPS, Compass.

Improvements: sniping bullet fall off, iron sight compensation, GL accuracy & better comms voip

I hate disarray, pet hate are players charging forward and the rest of the team are left back.

I never prioritise those killed by charging forward into a battlefield.

I love revive maps Hate respawn maps, Hate JIP games, disruptive to team, but ok for friendly missions

NOT main matches.

well I am pretty much a newb. as I tend to die too often. I can do recon and sniping.

I can fly choppers low between trees when necessary, but I love using tanks.

With better sight settings I think I could make life miserable for the enemy at about 800 meters.

The M1A should have a laser range finder with elevation settings. I have heard that there is a mod that provides that,

but I have not pursued it yet.

This early in the grand scheme of things it is easy for the veterans of the game to forget that, while they may have been playing this game as well as those akin to it for some time now, there are many members who are still trying to grasp and become proficient in many of the basic and moderate concepts the game allows and features. Disallowing tools to keep novices in the game will ultimately deter from the greater objective, which is to keep an interest in this game and game style. Leaving other players behind in their noob-hood while the l33t ride head-long into danger does not create cohesion nor does it inspire esprit de corp.

Keeping in mind that our leaders have given us three superb ArmA servers it is not without reason that these servers could accommodate both novice and veteran game styles. But accordingly, the novices look to the l33t for advise and training. Dividing the experience levels to their respective services will not only stunt the learning involved in novice training, it will also increase the amount of time it takes to become well-versed in the game's mechanics. In adverse, the learned players may find time spent with novice players mundane and futile. Interestingly enough, this also occurs in real-world situations. Take for instance a young squad of ten or so soldiers who are comprised of 7 Privates and Specialists and are lead by two Sergeants and a Staff Sergeant. Deploying the Privates and the Specialists without the knowledge and guidance of the Non-Commissioned Officers would result in utter failure and the mission would result in each member's death. Deploying the NCO's without a proper squad would lead to mission failure due to the fact that there is a ton of leadership but no one to do the work or to maintain security.

Without each group the others would ultimately fail. But together in a cohesive group, mission completion is more than capable, it is a reality.

The simple fact remains that while it is difficult at best to find a fine line where everyone is content within their own skill level and can contribute to the cause, it is still achievable. With out this fine line, and more importantly everyone's individual determination to walk it, this game will be difficult to play and more importantly, difficult to enjoy.

I understand what you are saying Medic but we have quite a few people now who have been playing this for a reasonable period of time and seem to have plateaued out at a level that they are comfortable at after learning the basic setup, and if this is where everyone is happy to play then that is fine.

I know that a few people would prefer not to play with lots of revives and respawns on and remove all the aids that are currently running, but it would not be fair to force people who don't want to play like this to follow, but at the same time you can appreciate that for these more veteran style players it can be equally frustrating to play on the servers that have everything turned on.

I have played in several missions now where despite all the tactics repeatedly mentioned in the forums and on TS people still:

Join the mission and just run off towards the nearest objective,

Continually chatter away on TS with information that has no tactical use at all because it has no reference points.

Open fire on the easiest target they see first without knowing where their teamates are.

Don't co-ordinate or communicate accurately with thei teamates until it's too late.

None of these are that important if you are looking to jump into a mission and just enjoy the game, but people cannot keep banging on about how they want to play a tactical game full of realism because it will never happen if this is how the servers are going to run.

Personally I haven't played for a few days because everyone seems to prefer this less tactical style on the "EVO" server and I have given up trying to get my head around playing like that.

I honestly feel that the majority of people don't want to spend all night playing a one map mission and all the time it will take to do it without respawns because they would get bored and that's fine, but that is what I am used to and so my opinion is obviously biased when it comes how I enjoy playing it compared to you or anyone else in here.

I would like to take you up on the point you tried to make about a RW squad.

The military is not a democracy, you do as your told, you shut your mouth, open your ears, do as your told and learn bloody quickly or accept the consequences from your own NCO's as well as the enemy.

Now we can try that style of teaching in here but I feel that apart from a couple of us who have broad shoulders and can take the pace it would lead to a team breakdown and a lot tears on TS, but it might be worth a go if people would actually listen and take notice of what is being posted and said, or at least admit that they don't really want a hardcore, tactical realistic game but would rather play "Arma Lite".

JMO.

The poll structure is just fine, and is meant as a basic guage of all those who are playing at the moment, not a hard core assessment. Well, it was originally meant to be a guage of your experience and a skill you posess and a skill you would like to learn, but it has turned into self-assessment books. It's real easy, just stick to the format.

Also, while all the points made in this thread are very valid and well-thought out, this thread is just to list your skills and requested skills only. People can reference their teammates here to see how to play when they go into the server, but if it gets bogged down in theory or comments, then it will be useless.

bro, your opinion is valued just as everyone's is.

You have no argument from me. i agree with you for the most part. Until yesterday I couldn't play the game for more than 15 minutes without a CTD, so my addition to the map was pretty moot. I would rather play the single missions with a few loyalists than evo. But with an unstable game, being a reliable asset in a mission is extremely difficult. So now that stability is on the horizon, maybe some hard core missions are in sight as well.
