Remove $199.99 $399.98

each 199 2x = $399 ??

Does this mean your wanting SLI ??

One 8800 GTX OC2 768Mb will make mince meat of a SLI GT system.

The 768Mb card has 1Gb of memory, 256Mb reserved. The memory is a direct relationship to

the resolution the card can goto and the amount of frames it can pre-render/ buffer.

Many games buffer pre rendered frames to push up the frame rate, less memory, has to run

lower resolutions for same frame rate.

yes i that meant 2 8800.... i looked at the GTX 280 but its 700 and that GTX 260 is 499 but its a new card i am hesitant to buy a card brand new....

I would definately consider Vista 64 Bit if your going with Vista since the processor you have selected is 64 bit. i've noticed 64bit vista performs better on a 64bit system vs. vista 32bit on a 64bit system.

hmm i will def. look into get the 64 bit windows vista thx for the advice

Thought about getting a 10000rpm drive rather than a 7200?

RaptorX!!!!!!!

thought about it but will i really see much dif. from a 10k and 72k drive is it worth 150?

I see the one I was talking about was the old 8 series not the new 200 series.

BFG or XFX or EVG 8800 GTX OC" (OverClocked version 2) or ultra, but

it seems Nvidia are not advertising the old GTX card, I wonder why? could

it be that they ran frame to frame with the 9800 GTX ? ;)

o ic viiiper i read lots of things about the 9800 compared to the 8800 and almost all of them said there was basically no major benefit paying the extra money for the 9800 altho 8800gtx768 does look interesting..... i will def. look into what the cost rise and benefits equals out to...

The way I see it is... that unles you are playing Crysis there are no games that can tax a (new) system even with a Card like the 8800gts 512.

You can always get a second card in the future as an up-grade, it's like having a Corvette with 600ghp you will never really use it although it is nice JUST to know you have it. ;)

here is a website that compares the two viiiper and says 2 8800gt are better now i am confused! lol this stuff aint easy to sort out

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphi...rds,1942-5.html

This is what i have heard too. The 8800Gt is better performing in sli than the 8800gtx in any edition.

Regading the Raptor then i don´t see a point in buying it over a good samsung or hitachi hd the benefits are almost non exept for the durability on the Raptor wich should live longer than the others but u can buy of these for one Raptor

OK Lets clear somethings up:

I am refering to the 8800GTX in comparison to the 8800GT SLI.

2.

The website you listed for the test:

As we have found time and time again, the performance gains offered by SLI are far from consistent, as one game can show an 80% increase in performance while others see 10% or less. On average we saw a 42% performance increase when using SLI with the GeForce 8800 GT. The games that really showed serious performance gains included Company of Heroes, F.E.A.R, Prey and S.T.A.L.K.E.R, while the other five demonstrated average to poor performance gains.

The underlined parts refer to PREY from their tests, the table is shown with the heading Single 8800 GT & single 8800 GTX but in their text they are referring to the 8800GT as in SLI MODE and using the scores from the table,

They are saying that two 8800 GT in SLI are 84% better than one 8800 GT in the PREY test. Or 43% better than

one 8800 GTX. but 2x 8800 GT costs more and is less reliable and generates more heat and and and...

SLI v NONE SLI

Cobol, Zeno, Majestic & me, to name a few members have run SLI mode cards on several occassions, go

talk to them, we don't make up or read about the facts, we ran the hardware and we know the real world results.

They will tell you the same story, SLI SUCKS.

4.

My recommendation (and probably the members mentioned above) is the 8800GTX 768 MB, it is a monster card, it is one slot, it is compatible with all games, it is cheaper ($349 as I listed) than your suggested SLI 8800GT, this card will last you 12 - 24 months from NOW and it already is 12 month old technology (infact it came our NOV 2006, I bought mine Feb 2007)).

Have I missed anything ? O yes the 8800GTX is BIG so get a big case !

NO ONE I KNOW THAT HAS ACTUALLY RUN SLI CARDS would recommend them in the long run

compared to a solid single card. The drivers/ stability/ compatability and a bunch of other shit like room

and heat all go to the real life conclusion

SLI SUX

I thought I would throw in my opinion since I was in this situation a couple of weeks ago.

First off, Viiiper is right with SLI being overrated. Basically SLI does have a few benefits over a single card, but not much. Not taking into the fact that some games, GRID for example, have poor support for multiple cards and some games have no support at all. Second, SLI doesnt do much for the minimum frame rate. The minimum is important because that is the number that matters when you get in a big firefight with tons of lag. You want your minimum to be high enough to get you through those times, and in some games, SLI even descreases the minimum frame rate. Also, I believe your motherboard doesnt support SLI, since its an x38 chipset, which only has crossfire support.

You might want to consider looking at a single 8800GT or 8800GTS 512, since they are more then enough for every single game out there except for the benchmark known as Crysis. If your willing to wait a wait, the new ATI 4850 is coming out and looks like it will best the 9800 GTX, with a lower price.

For the motherboard, you'd probably be best off with some that has a p45 chipset, which is the newest mainstream chipset from intel. If your set on wanting SLI possiblity in the future, your stuck with the 790i, which is expensive, if you want ddr3.

For the processor, I think your better off with the new e8400. Its a 45nm manufacture process compared with the 65nm you choose, so it allows you to overclock more and gives of less heat. 5 bucks more for a processor that is hitting a 4Ghz overclock quite easily.

For the harddrive, its always good to have extra space. This drive is one of the fastest drives, beating most 10000rpm drives, on the market for consumers for a lower price then the drive you choose.

Finally, for cooling, zipzoomfly really has a limited selection of the highend stuff, so your best bet is the Vendetta. This is a top 5 cooler for a few sites and I actually bought another heatsink that is the same model as this, just from a different company.

Powersupply, I dont have any really recommendations. All I know is that its always safe to go with a brand with a quality history. Not sure about the history of Ultra products, so I cant comment.

For the RAM, I have no idea which is the best decision right now. You can get 4gb of fast ddr2 for the same price as 2gb of medium speed ddr3. I guess if your looking to the future for upgradability, ddr3 is probably the best shot.

As per the OC WHY??? If you have a state of the art system WHY OC there really is no need as I think you will see no gain in Gaming .... Unless you play Crysis.

Like I said My System gets 12400 in 3dmark06 why pay more?

Why buy a high dollar system when the mid dollar system is really just as fast and capable of being upgraded for future projects.

Even if you dont want to overclock, the 45nm process runs cooler because it requires less voltage to run at certain clock speeds. Lower coltage = less heat emitted. That and this generation of processors have around a 10% increase in performance if you compare them at the same clock speed of the other generation. All this for around 5 bucks more.

Driver availability can be a significant issue with Vista-64 so I would encourage you to read through the posts at the site below (and others) :

www.vistax64.com

I installed Vista-64 on a dual boot system and although I like a lot of features Vista offers, the lack of driver support forces me to run 90+% of my apps on XP, which btw runs brilliantly. I also, foolishly, bought the OEM version of Vista-64 which does not include the 32 bit version like the retail copy does...so I'm stuck. And as they say "Measure twice, cut once."

Examples of stuff that don't play nice with Vista-64:

- n52 Speed Pad

- GPS S/W

- Cell Phone I/O S/W

- System Mechanic 7

- Others not yet confirmed

Best of Luck
