This coupled with the large hole in the corona of the sun could, in theory result in a large CME, coronal mass ejection, hitting the earth at just the right time and cause another Carrington style event which will supercharge the upper atmosphere and result in world wide blackouts as the transformers in the power grids to melt internally. This is an issue that NASA has brought up to the government multiple times in the years leading up to this solar cycle and has been largely ignored because of the cost associated with upgrading the various power grids. If the event does occur and the power grids do fail then it will take at least one year to restore power possibly more due to the need for power in the industrial plants to build the parts needed and the resulting damage to our infrastructure due to riots and social unrest because the masses of lemmings can't update their Facebook status. The only ones who will have power are those who have prepped for this type of disaster and the military due to their EMP shielding as a preventative measure against nuclear attack. Probley only way it can harm us is if a giant crona comes off the sun far enough to hitt the earth directly. Then its lights out. But its only the magnetic feild. and for a short time. this has happend before in the past im sure and we are all still here. It will screw up your compass im sure.
