The US launched a Delta IV heavy rocket carrying a satellite payload from a west coast facility on Thursday. It was the first launch of this heavy rocket from Vandenburg AFB.

Oh that's only a weather sat.............. haha.

Nope, they admitted it was an intelligence payload. Quote from another news source:

The launch was delayed by two-and-a-half minutes from the initial schedule to avoid a piece of space debris, but otherwise it appeared to go flawlessly. As it was launching a National Reconnaissance Office payload, very little is public about the mission itself, including its destined orbit or how many satellites it was deploying. All we know is that they needed the ability to launch 23 tons to orbit.

Holy crap, they came too close for my comfort to burning that thing up. Look at those flames at ignition. That's hydrogen that's leaked from the tanks. The red foam insulation on the side gets singed to black, and some of it keeps on burning. That's really not supposed to happen. I don't know if that's the flawed design of the Vandenberg launch complex or what, but I can't imagine they're too happy with that.
