Domination side mission ideas

Well,

 

Im not sure putting more enemies is always advisable.

 

Fact is they are "side" missions for a reason and they should be consistent with the nature of the objective.

 

If we have to level a radio tower, being a secondary target, I do not expect to find an armored platoon there. What would make sense? Probably a couple of enemy squads, a couple of UAZ and maybe a 113.

 

Just keep it consistent with the kind of mission. If we want to engage one zillion of enemies, we go for the AO, I think.

 

Also, side missions are engaged when there is not many ppl on server, meaning if we are between 2 and 4, a reasonable Side Mission makes sense. Again, if you want the large scale engagement, go AO.

Escort missions can be fun I figure and difficult if planned right.

 

More in depth Search and Rescue style missions are fun as well.

 

Idea on the existing search and destroy cruise missile mission. Maybe make it to where you have to recover the missile with a lift helo and/or ability to load missile in Salvage truck as inventory (probably easiest since its seen as a static type object, and you can lift Salvage truck by default I assume).

More timed sensitive side-missions:

 

Kill general in 15 minutes before he is evacuated.

High valued target will by flying over town X via chopper, make sure you shoot him down as he flies over before he escapes. Watch out for escorts!

 

Capture missions:

 

Include some ground vehicles to the capture X vehicle and take it to base. Offers a bit a more danger and challenge, maybe some roadblocks along the way.. Even some specialty vehicles instead of the standard tank or jeep.

 

[EDIT] I think I remember there being a tank capture mission I just don't think I have seen it any time recently. [EDIT]

 

Priority / Sniper missions:

 

Kill high-valued target before setting off any alarms. (basically kill a certain unit without being made aware to the enemy)

 

Scavenger:

 

Sort of a S&D mission where you have to find either an item, or building without being given exact coordinates. So search X town for missing documents, or find the body of a contractor. Requires players to go door to door, or to canvas to find the objective.

 

Rare Doomsday Missions

 

I remember there being a nuke script. But the idea for this mission is that it rarely triggers and only if a certain # of players are on. But it could entail destroying a SCUD launcher or killing a certain unit in X amount of time. Failure to do so results in catastrophic damage to the main base (Nuke, Artillery, Massive Armored/Air Column).

 

 

 

Just some quick ideas, not certain how difficult or time consuming they would be to implement. Thanks!

Right now most side missions are 3 armour and about 3 squads. When there are only a few on the server we all play the side mission, if there are more than 3 on a side mission its too easy, I was thinking of turning them into mini AO's, but i do understand what you mean.

I personally love the convoy missionss. So I think there should be more ambush missions. Those are always fun.

 

Change it around, like infantry ambush...uh...can't think of anything else.

Btw last night was a blast. Had a large group on ace and it reminded me of how much fun it could be with large groups

Side missions can be some of the most interesting missions in Arma, just like the larger missions can be the most fun. Here are a couple small-unit scenarios that I've looked at in the past...

 

1. Convoy ambushes. These are the most fun in my opinion. It's easy to change in the arma mission too, just change around the routes or add more routes. One thing I would suggest is to put a 5min delay on the enemy convoy start, as they seem to want to go a little early. Also you could reverse the roles. Meet up somewhere on the map with a diplomat, informant, ect and escort him safely back to base. You have to drive there and back, but the enemy will only spawn once you bring the informant/diplomat into your team.

 

2. Sabotage. Sneak into or near an enemy base of operations and blow something up, then get out without being detected. There are some current side missions that are like this, but they lack the dangers of safe extraction. Put some triggers and spawn a helo or fast moving troop transport to the spot of the attack and you have some cool planning you will have to do afterwards.

 

3. Search & Rescue: I've always liked these. There's little "search" though in the current side missions. I'd put a random spawn ratio on the downed pilots, or something. Also, it's possible to reverse the roles and you are a team that is being hunted by the enemy, and you have to get safely to extraction with nothing but a map and compass within a certain amount of time.

 

4. Assisination: A cool scenario is sort of like the convoy ambush, but you do it with a plane. Get into this plane's assumed flight path, or hang out just off the runway, and kill it, then get to extraction. Other assisination missions could be to identify the subject and kill him (i.e. take away that little bunker he hides in and make the soldier guess who he is based on a picture or something)

 

5. Squad ambush: Get your orders to drop into an area in the mountains or something. Get 5-10min to set up a proper ambush, then execute it. After attack, police up any gear or information you gained from the enemy, then radio for extration safely away from the site in case reinforcements arrive. Trigger a countdown or something for reinforcements once the first couple of enemy die. The longer it takes to fully execute the ambush, the more dangerous the mission becomes. An easy way to do this is to put an enemy squad in a large patrol loop.

 

That's about as detailed as I can come up with right now :)

A defense area.

 

An area that must be defended against AI artillery,Infantry and light support vehicles a fire base Gloria style.

 

 

I second that idea defend a strategic point for a couple minutes or a single firebase like mission to defend.

Against all devils.

I believe that could be done pretty easily by switching around some of the parameters of one of the rescue missions. I'm not completely sure though since I'm not able to get into it all right now.

defense mission is a def thumbs up from me. would break up the trend towards constantly attacking the servers have right now. i know a few people who still lament the near-disappearance of counterattacks at the main AO for example. would like to see one or two of these with more consequence than just "you failed...." though. think along the lines of an arty firebase. defend the firebase, or lose your artillery support for a while.

 

the escort and infantry ambushes are also great ideas. idk how easy it would be to code a "picture" of an AI in for the assassinate mission...maybe give parameters like the single-player armory assassination challenges (e.g. walks alone, unarmed, stays close to center of town.)

 

also, the existing pilot retrieval missions would be a bit more entertaining if they had some challenge, such as enemy units in close proximity to the pilots, thereby encouraging the mission to be done by more than just one pilot in a blackhawk (meaning actually have to take a team to cover the extract of the pilots...)
