  1. Short Answer:Yes Longer answer: You go deaf, and a symbol looking like an ear with two diagonal stripes (from memory) should appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen to indicate why your game sound has gone. You can edit your hpp file to reflect your correct in-game name, and this will allow you to chose ear-plugs from a menu. I have never seen this menu as it apparently lives on a key between ALT GR and CTRL. There is no such key on my keyboard.
  2. I would say that this has really solved it. Watched a constant disk write on performance monitor with no degradation in game performance. 1. Delete original replay folder (and file) by exploring to ProgramData\Codemasters\FormulaOne\DataCache\yourc omputersname\ NOTE: The folder 'ProgramData' is hidden; in order to see hidden files and folders you have to check a box in folder options. Windows 7 -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> 'View' Tab -> Select 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives' Windows XP -> My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View - Select 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives' 2. Open Command Prompt with admin privileges (search 'cmd' and right click on cmd.exe and select 'Run as Adminsitrator') 3. Use mklink to create the symbolic link. This is what I typed, but you must edit this with your own file directories: mklink /D C:\ProgramData\Codemasters\FormulaOne\DataCache\yo urcomputersname\replay H:\Games\F12010\replay 4. When launching the game, the 2GB replay.pbf file will be written to the file location you have specified. If you write this file to another hard drive, resources are freed up for your OS and game performance should increase.
  3. I have been suffering from I/O issues when the F2010 game starts writing the replay file to my C: drive. It may be that I am suffering from some issue with an early SSD drive, but whatever the cause, the response time writing the file is poor, and whilst my frame rate doesn't suffer indicatively on FRAPS, and my processor doesn't seem to be overworked, the result is judderly updates as if the machine is waiting for the file to flag the writes before moving on. In discussions we have had, I know I am not the only one who has suffered this. To some degree the issue is less prevalent in multi-games but it is still clearly happening when I have performance monitor up. I may have a possible fix which I am currently testing. Basically you can make a dynamic directory link to keep the standard directory structure in windows, but have the physical position of the directory somewhere else. To this end I have moved the file drop to D: and have made this link in the expected point so the game believes that all is well. Initial tests are looking positive, but I will be able to report further once I have reset my game and gone through some places I know it occurs. I will update forthwith - if not sooner. pip-pip!
  4. Kram, What is your live ID, let's see what it does when we try?
  5. When launching I receive the following error Addon 'ace_missions' requires addon 'MAIN-ADDON' Can someone help the idiot Welshman please?
  6. When I got my 4870 X2 it came with the usual crossfire cable. Out of interest has anyone bothered to stick two 4870x2 in a crossfire mode, does it work? Do you need headphones for the associated turbine noise? Seeing as I never got round to fitting the second card to the other half's machine I am strangely intrigued by the prospect.
  7. Excellent night's play last night. As always thanks to everyone in Bravo for being in the 'Victorian team'. Everyone in Bravo was pro-active and we cleaned through our objectives very quickly. Thanks to Cent and Pilot for flight duties, particular mention to Steel for seemingly being in 5 places at once sorting revives, it made us very efficient. T1 drew a rather short straw and got assigned to Bravo so hopefully he won't be disappearing for another few months in a sanatorium. Thanks everyone for another enjoyable TacDom night.
  8. The fact that you haven't immediately binned the idea says that you would regret missing out on this opportunity in the future. The airport, one has to presume, will be one of the most heavily guarded areas as it is so important, so it will probably be as safe as you can get in a civilian/mixed environment. I wish you luck.
  9. Does this mean a move to the Isle of Wight?
  10. Aren't you supposed to be on Holiday?

  11. My experience has been the same over several nights. I cannot get a chopper to repair/rearm. You end up with a useless unfueled chopper.
  12. TL is not a simple role. There is a lot to think about all at once and it is very hectic when you first start trying. A TL's role is made immeasurably easier if the squad listens and obeys. It will come with practise. But don't be frightened to let anyone in your squad know when they are making life more difficult for everyone by lone gunning. Standard first warning is not to revive them when they get themselves in trouble unnecessarily. If you are a TL then you must ensure that your game sounds is secondary to TS. Whilst this may feel like you are dampening your enjoyment of the game, you are running that squad, and you are expected to be efficient at comms, both within the squad and up to MC. One element of this efficiency is the speed of communication. Not having to ask for repeats of transmissions if essential to keep the game flowing. This also appiles within the squads. As a TL the radio is yours, and if you feel there is errant traffic, then stamp on it. Keep up the work Grizz
  13. The issue, as always Durka is one of money. Basically BT (british telecomm) have removed most of the telephone boxes now. All section leaders are armed with the mandatory 60pence, (and a charge card but they are only allowed to use that in dire circumstances). As there were no phone boxes around they would not have been able to ring anyone to tell them they were in the area. I understand that in future they will be reverting to non-desert cammo so they can be seen more easily.
  14. I enjoyed last night with the close up. The M60 is required, at least one in each squad. If you are going to suppress you need some heavy auto fire laying into the AI to keep their heads down. Smoke was excellent Zeno, and best use of it was made. I think we need to be a tad nearer to the enemy when we engage though. With the lack of scoped weapons within the squads it make some targets appear a little out of our range. Would like to refine and keep trying that mode of play. cheers
  15. Sorry to inject a light diversion into this thread, but over here in the UK we don't have the same exposure to the items you are discussing. We do, however, get the option to see quite a lot of your documentary type programmes. A question has come to mind. Has anyone seen the Steven Segal series following him as a Deputy Sheriff, and if so the specific episode where he was helping an officer with handgun shooting? It showed the afore-mentioned Mr Segal managing successfully to put bullet placement very accurately, in one example almost through the same hole. He referred to technique taught to him from his early formative years out east. I found it quite amazing as I have to confess to not being able to take the guy seriously previously. I have no issue with his films but always thought his back-story a little too weird to be true. However this seemed to be some evidence that his background stands up to testing. Discuss please....
  16. Hi, My name is Chris, and I am a virgo, I like .....oh sorry I thought I was on match.com then for a minute!
  17. Neither, direct IP worked fine.
  18. A few people have downloaded this (and deleted it seemingly almost immediately!), but for the few that remain is anyone interested in going through the first mission?
  19. I am disappointed in the whole tactical genre as a whole at the moment. I prefer games where the resources are fixed, there is a defend/attack goal, and you have to work at that within your limited capability. I spent more hours than I care to remember on Atomic/Microsoft Close Combat series which was on this premise, but nothing has come along since that doesn't seem to work on the resource/rush principle. This game is another resource based one, decent GUI, and I feel it looks polished. I played the first two games against no opponent because AI isn't automatic - ironically lost those because of no points! Having worked out I needed an opponent I then played one match and overcame, mostly because I had learnt some basics from the previous two meanderings. If you could switch off additional resources I would reckon it could become a decent strategic game. Thanks for the responses guys I shall have to go back to Close Combat 2 again it appears.
  20. Has anyone else downloaded the 30 day beta for RUSE, and if so would they like to give it a go? http://ruse.uk.ubi.com/
  21. Yes, anything USB historically has taken more machine resources than proper bus connected items. It will also add, probably miniscule, latency to your gaming experience - but is is there. In short - go internal card whereever possible.
