Ok so im moving house in the next few months and was hoping i could get something to work.

Kit

Asus RT-N66u router - http://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN66U/
Samsung Smart TV - http://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-ue40f6740-led-hd-1080p-3d-smart-tv-40-with-freeview-freesat-hd-and-voice-control-with-2x-3d-glasses/p437555
Iphone 4s & Nexux 7 2013 tablet

Current house - Fibre optic BB - will have an ubuntu desktop machine
New house - standard BB - will have a windows 7 machine

I intend on keeping the fibre BB active at my current house (parents)

Intentions

What I want to do is plug in a USB HD into my router and store films on there at my current house

I then want to be able to access that content at my new house and stream this on my smart tv.

I was thinking i could access my content via the ASUS AirCloud app (google playstore and appstore) on my phone/nexus and stream this to my phone/tablet no problem.
But then how can i get this content on my TV? Would AppleTV do the job? which rules out my Nexus as a playback device.

My other thought was wanting to be able to access my Ubuntu machine from my Windows 7 machine to set downloads going and move documents on to my USB device to play at my new house.

Is this possible?

Thanks.

only thing I can't figure out is how to use dlna over wan (streaming direct to tv), sounds like it's possible, but i dont really have any way of testing.

setup the ddns for the router anyway to give it an asus url that you can easily connect to. and turn on the dlna server

maybe you can push media from your tab https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dlna.asus2

too many ffreekin things going on here dude, infact fuk it, when you move house take your shit with you haha.
