Thats all well and good but what about the America's?

 

Pfft what about 90% of the uk, most of us are still too far from an exchange to get more than 4Meg over copper wire. :wallbash:

I'm a little bit confused. I'm on the 50MB and I pay £45/month the now. I just got new pricing from Virgin with increases and prices held details for all services, and it didn;t say anything about my 50Mb going down to £25/month. That would be awesome, I would def. stick with that rather than go to the 100mb.

Hmmm, I just rung Virgin and asked about upgrades etc and they stated that no-one gets an upgrade without ringing and re negotiating their contract and it would never be free or the same price. As an example they said that there is an offer on now that would allow me to upgrade my 10mb to 20mb for £5.87 a month extra instead of the normal £11 something but I would need to re sign for a further 12 months.

 

Now I agree that doubling from 10mb to 20mb for a fiver is good, but it's not free as some seem to imply and they do not automatically upgrade you.

Yes it must be different per customer as most people have different discount packages because that's they way Virgin do their pricing. For example I got a special upgrade from 20Mb to 50Mb for only £4 extra a month.

 

 

Rocky is right, Virgin pricing is locked into multiple services discounts.

 

 

Base price for current 50M/bit is: £45.00 with no other virgin service.

YOU HAVE A VIRGIN MEDIA PROVIDED land line (phone)

Now other complications, if your on a 20M/bit modem you will need a new 50M/bit plus modem (cable modem) and it's free, but there is a mandatory (one off) setup charge for existing customers. (wavered for new customers depending on promotion).

 

 

Your bill will show:

Currently 50Mbit is £45 (soon all 50Mbit customers will become 100Mbit)

Then apply the £10 discount for a virgin phone line, (discount shown as Phone, TV, B'Band, XXL Discount)

if you don't have the TV option it will appear as: Phone, B'Band Xl

 

Total cost = £35.00

 

Other current discounts shown on my bill are:

 

£8.50 discount (within the £18.50 block) for TV XL package (TV & XL Broadband)

£9.40 discount for additional HD V+ box (therefore additional TV V+ Box costs £15.00 less £9.40, total £5.60

 

It's a weird method, confusing but once understood you do get some great deals compared to other providers.

£28.00 / month for a service called 'UP TO 20Mbit' but 99% of users get nothing near it & their definition of 'UNLIMITED'

is 40GB max download before capping.

You'll like this story.

 

A mate asked me to set up a wireless network in his house, so I got him to phone Virgin and ask for a free router. He had to upgrade to 10Mb, but he did and the router box arrived a few days later.

 

I went around and started unpacking the box. When I got to the bottom, the "router" was kind of big. It wasn't a router. It was only the brand new Super Hub!!! I don't even have that and I am on top "everything"!

 

That's not the funny bit though.

 

So he crawls under the desk and unplugs the modem from the back of the PC and I feed him the hub power supply and the RJ45 to plug in to the back of the PC. He's pissing around trying to plug it in everywhere but it won't fit.

 

So I pull the tower unit out so we can get a right look.

 

There is no network connection?!! I check the old cable modem, it was a USB.

 

I take a closer look at what appeared to be the network cards rj45 ethernet connection. Stamped on the metal were the words

 

"TELEPHONE IN"

 

LMAO!!!! The PC was so old, it was from the days when you plugged in your phone line for a whopping 56K connection LMAO!!!

 

So anyway, I ordered a PCI network card for £7, and hope that the mobo accepts it.

it would still cost me £45 or £47.99 a month for 100Mb no matter how they dress it up :P . at least i'd be using £35 of it, but i may as well set fire to £12.99 every month

 

Your right, if you don't want their phone, you'd be loosing the discount and it would be £45.00

I have a Virgin phone line and use it as a home phone so it's good for me.

 

At the end of the day 50 or 100Mbit is dam FAST & it's very constant.
