Zathrus~SPARTA~
I have a mobility 5870 1gb card in my laptop. I am seeing excellent frame rates in Crysis with everything on the highest graphics settings. I am not running multiple screens usually but I have run cloned hd tv's with it. I am sure it isn't as powerful as a full sized desktop card. What is the price difference between them over there?

andrewman~SPARTA~
I am running a 5850, it has two DVI and a HD output, I am very happy with performance, noise level and heat generation. The drivers have not caused me any issues.

Ebden~SPARTA~
Has anyone considered, with the over-the-top powerbills for this stuff anyway, to just stick their computer in a deep-freeze and be done with it? They aren't that bad on price for a little top-door deepfreeze, and the power bill is probably negligible with the rest of the machine anyway; even just the coolant condenser in the freezer. No, really, not just for the OC competitions.
rtr~SPARTA~
Hi Viiper, I'm running a 4890 and it has been a great card. Re power bills thats why I use a little nettop for all my Media and 'net stuff and leave the gaming PC off except for games. at least 80% less power. The OMNI?s water block is compatible with a wide range of video cards by simply swapping out a low-cost customized interposer plate. No longer will you need to purchase an entirely new cooling solution for each new generation of video card. http://coolitsystems.com/index.php/omni.html Coolit Omni Interposer Plate for ATI Radeon HD 5970 http://www.pricebat.ca/Coolit-Omni-Interpo...970.p_10171078/ VPN: AC-A5970 Vendor: CoolIT Systems
CoBoL~SPARTA~
As you know Viii my 480 popped just after 6 days, may exchange tommorow for a 5970. And with one of those you could be set for quite awhile.
Zathrus~SPARTA~
If you can find one I would suggest getting an ASUS vid card. My ASUS 4890 is overclocked alot and runs warm but not hot. It is also very stable.
Ebden~SPARTA~
Y'all seem like the sort to consider the Quadro FX 5800. 4gigs DDR3! Taxes in, you'll still stay clear of $10k.

CoBoL~SPARTA~
Ok took the plunge back to ATI. Long Card It Is Simple Bench Test, Used Dirt 2 bench. High/Ultra Settings 2560x1600 Both GPU are stock. Nvidia 480 Radeon 5970 So far so good, but not huge leaps in FPS on the ATI, did expect more.
Batwing~SPARTA~
Probably that depends on the game. On some games it push more on other less, but of coourse there is no real comparison between the 2, 5970 dual GPU is the best of the best, indiscussed. It is also about 700 bucks anyway, isn t it ? Anyway, your PC deserve it !
NoScream~SPARTA~
All depends how you look at it: Price Power: temps: Performance: One GPU or four GPU's it's all the same if the price for 4 GPU's is the same as one GPU..... If 2x Nvidia 470 GTX were the same price as 1x Nvidia 480 would the test be fair if the 480 was put up against the 2 470's in SLI? I think so..... Zathrus~SPARTA~
My asus 4890 was overclocked at 1100mhz core and 1200mhz memory (ddr5) for weeks and stable as a rock. Recently I backed it down to 1000mhz/1100mhz to be safe since it never seems to work very hard.
Batwing~SPARTA~
I don t really get the sense of this comparison tho. 5970 is a dual core, 480 is a single core. 5970 costs about $700 and 480 I guess is about $500. I do not think the 480 was ever created to pose a threat to the 5970, simply can t. I guess the direct competitor for the 480 should be the single core 5870, which last time I checked was priced about $130 less than the 480. Then, comparing performances between the 2 single core cards and their price would make some sense. I am a total ATI fan, but I am trying to unbiased on this. IF you can buy a 50" TV for the same price as a 40" why not compare? After all it's the value for money.... the 5970 is six months old, the 480 is 3 weeks old..... nvidia should of pushed the limits. If the USA charge $700 for the 5970 then they are ripping off the customer.
Batwing~SPARTA~
Sorry.. I am a bit confused.. Are you saying the 480 has the same price of the 5970 in UK? if i got it right, that s just crazy. I mean 480 cannot even compare with the dual core 5970, how is it possible they are selling it for the same price? Maybe at $700 in US the 5970 is overpriced (and i hope it will change) but the market price makes some sense. At $500 also the 480 is overpriced, but at least it costs less that the 5970 (in fact perform less than that) and it costs more than the 5870, direct competitor (and in fact performs better than the 5870). If I had a situation where 5970 and 480 costs the same, I would not even be looking at 480.
