I am worried that my PC is slowing down.

Whilst playing GRID I find that I am the last to join the race and yet my PC is now slouch

To try to isolate the problem I ran 3D mark 06, with these results:

SM2 4079

SM3 4738

CPU 2822

Overall 10163

I did this a year ago

SM2 5606

SM3 5676

CPU 4737

Overall 13709

the main differences are:

last year I was using XP

I now have 4gigs of ram instead of 2.

I have 5 hard drives instead of 4

Is there a test for the processor and for the GPU

here are my components

Intel Core 2 Duo QX6850 3.0 Ghz

Asus Striker Extreme nVidia nForce680i SLI X16 with passive cooling

4Gb DDR2 OCZ Reaper 4-4-4-15

Asus Extreme En8800 GTX ULTRA - 768 MB

150 GB Raptor

300 GB WD

750 GB WD x3

Zalman Fatal1ty case

PSU Thermaltake 850W

I ran Asus smartdoctor, probeII and CPUz

Asus Smart Doctor

GPU temp 73c

ram temp 61c

Engine 612 MHz

Memory 2160 MHz

Shader 1512 MHz

Probe II

No anomolous readings

Memory 2.16v

CPUz

When I ran this I found the Clocks multiplier set to 6x, giving me 2.0GHz overall, I have corrected this to stock (9x) and restored to 3.0GHz

I reran 3Dmark

SM2 5421

SM3 5798

CPU 3984

Overall 13214

I can accept this small variation and put it down to vista versus XP.

I have been playing with an underclocked pc for months and apart from being slow to join GRID multiplayer I never noticed.

sorry to have wasted space here

I wish I could blame the bios program, but I only changed the bios a couple of weeks ago and never touched it before then. However i may have had a fiddle with the multiplyer to OC it a bit and when I may have hit the 6 instead of the 9 when I reset it.

Maybe I do need to take the tablets, lol.

Well in the past I would clock up the ram to see how far it would go before it crashed. It can be confuseing as to what to set the mulityplayer at sometimes if the info is not with it. Sometimes you have to go to the cpu webb sight to find out whats it suppost to be for a certian model. I run mine at stock default. If its suppost to be at 9 and its set to 6, well your loseing valueible power. Like dissconecting the secondarys on a 4 bbl carb.

Haha Zeno I know how you feel buddy if you remember last year not long after I built my machine I had a similar problem and I posted that I needed help when low and behold I found that my clock was at 2.00 (6x) rather than the (9x).

This is why it is great to have other members using very similar hardware as we can get the gist on problems

this is great now you can get back to smoking us all in game.
