ARMY UPDATE

I just walked in the door from a VERY long day at MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station). It started out good and ended as I had been expecting the whole time, after it got very bad.

It started with be offered 13F (Fire support specialist), 96D (Imagery Analyst), 25P (Microwave Systems Operator-Maintainer), and 92F (Petroleum Supply Specialist), none of which I really wanted (some of the identifying numbers above have changed for some of military guys. I know that 96D and 92F is different now. I just googled the MOS titles.).

The only ones that I would even consider were 96D and 25P. They had to send up a request for a waiver due to me being color blind. When the result came back (over an hour later) they found I needed my HS transcript to prove I had Algebra. I spent an hour on the phone arguing with the school that it was urgent and I finally got them faxed to MEPS.

They sent up the waiver again with the corrected HS transcript and it came back (over an hour again) that I could not do it because I was colorblind. No kidding. That is why a waiver was requested.

Now, I am back to square one. We decided to see if I could stay a 42A (Human Resources Specialist). That one back over 2 hours later. By now it is after 3pm and most of the recruits that were processing today were gone. They had to get on the phone to get approval for the final orders. Once again, I got wait. We sat on hold for over 30 minutes waiting to finish this up.

Finally I found out that I am going to?????????.FORT CAMPBELL, KY. I have a report date of 3Oct07.

Now I know where and when and so do you.

Thank you to everyone for the support and the concern that you have shown me. It means the world to me and I will not forget it.

well, you could've been shipped to worse places, and you may get up there before the big deployment. Don't know much about Ft. Campbell, except for it's nice guest quarters, and the usual drive through bars, tatoo parlors, strip joints, ect that you see at every post, but I DO like the way the 101st is structured, or was when I dealt with them. Good luck man and hope all works out

Congrats SGT Postal,

96D is a squint. I used to work with tons of those guys and it's pretty cool. In fact, color blindness helps in that MOS. The trick is that you have to qualify for a TS/SCI clearance. This requires a Special Background Investigation (SBI) that takes about a year. I won't go into the details, but I was a 96B (Intel Analyst) who put together the reports from all the different sources to make a comprehensive picture.

While you're at Ft. Campbell, try to attend Air Assault School. It's pretty great. You need to be in decent shape (not necessarily a TriAthelete, but good shape all the same.).

MEPS is where the losers wind up when they cant do the job elsewhere. Just do your best to get through it and remember - they can't ask you certain "lifestyle choice" questions anymore, so you should be good to go.
