  1. Quick question, out of professional curiousity but what do you guys in the US see as being good MPG performance? Zath's comment about getting a new ride that gets 32mpg, tallys with most of the reports I see in auto news releases, when they are referring to new cars being released Stateside. Most of these newer models are versions of what you would see as Euro cars. My interest is that for these same vehicle platforms we would be looking at 40 even 50 plus mpg. I'm guessing that the difference is fuel choice, as to make better efficiencies most UK, if not European drivers are choosing to go with diesel. So does that mean you are still biased toward petrolin the US?
  2. Happy B'day Halli. Hope you have a good one & sink a few beers!
  3. I live about 70 miles - 1 1/2 hours away but Oxfordshire is on my 2010 "to do" list for English heritage sites. Assuming the weather picks up I'll start picking locations for next month and beyond. If there are specific places you want checking out, I can maybe fit them in between castle hunting.
  4. Happy b'day Mr P, trust you'll have a good one
  5. To be fair, we spell it like that in the UK too, I reckon Viiper's been on the falling-down-water!
  6. Managed to blag an XP boot disc from the IT deptartment at work and got in behind the virus. Found and copied all of her files and now in the process of re-formatting and re-installing software. Thanks for the advice and pointers, it would appear both PC's are on there way back to good health, without any major disasters.
  7. Okay, first PC sorted, format went fine and it's now back up and running with latest drivers, antivirus etc. Second PC is much more of a problem. It turns out that my eldest daughter has been doing her final exam coursework on there and for whatever reason does not have a back up copy. Consequently I can't just reformat. If I have to slave the drive to my PC then I will but can someone post if there is a way to get past the virus, so that I can run the malware program? At this point I cannot get past the fake virus program, if I try to close it I get message saying "this is a prohibited action". Task Manager does not shut it down. I can't get into safe mode and can only get into bios by removing the CMOS battery. I can obviously go the battery route and change the boot option so that it reads the optical drive first, so do I need to put something on a disk that will disable the virus somehow: Is that what "rkill" does? Really appreciate the help on this one guys, if she loses her work she will be gutted. Ta, Watchy
  8. P, that was the one. Once the battery was out and I rebooted got straight into BIOS and setup the reformat. WIndows is back on and working, just got to go through all the drivers and updates now. That should keep me busy for a while. From what she says, it looks like my eldest has the same, so her PC will be next for a reformat!
  9. Taking out the CMOS battery worked, re-formatting now.
  10. Picked my girls up tonight and the youngest brought her desktop which "doesn't work". It's running XP Pro, SP2, nothing special just a Sempron 3000 with 2gig ram and a Nivdia 7900. When I fired it up it boots to desktop and straight away shows a very legitimate looking security software package. Only problem is, no-one has installed it, I put Avast on there along with Zone Alarm firewall and that was it. Can't close this program down, only option is to buy a license. Eventually after repeated Ctrl-Alt-Deletes, it crashes but just leaves a clear desktop picture: No toolbar or program icons. Only way to progress was a hard reboot. As she has nothing of note on there I opted for a re-format, so head for the Bios, to change the boot drive to Optical, to read the XP disc. Only problem is. it now asks for a password for the Bios which it has never had. None of the passwords ever used on the PC work so I'm stuffed. Can't get into safe mode, can't do anything. Any suggestions for getting the optical drive to be read first so I can do the format, if I pull the CMOS battery would that eliminate the need for a BIOS password? Thaks in advance.
  11. Just a quick info request: What versions / mods / etc are we needing for tomorrow? Now that Ace2 seems to be being played, will this be needed or are we staying with standard plus Littlebird, for now? Haven't used Ace at all before, so will need to get this plus anything else required before tomorrows session. Thanks, Watchy.
  12. Same here. GR got me started in online FPS and I too would regulary put in 4+ hours a night. No doubt it was part of what caused my ex and myself to drift apart but certainly not the whole reason. As much as I enjoy Arma, I hardly ever play anywhere other than Sparta (it's the right community for my gamestyle now) and I've lost all interest in other games. Haven't even bought BFBC2 and not sure I will. Life is looking good, back with the love of my life and no intentions of going back to the dark days of GR. Mind you, if they brought out a proper GR replacement ...................................
  13. 17 Robinson's. 16 Archers and one Man-at-Arms. Might start doing some proper digging to see if there are any links, will take a while I guess. None from my mother's side, Whittle.
  14. Everything I read and watch about this just makes me more convinced it's the only game I need to think about this year! Roll on release day!
  15. Over the last few years our winters have become colder but as far as snowfall goes, what we've had more recently doesn't even come close to snowfalls from my youth. Going back 30 years we would regularly get upwards of 6" of snow, compared with now when we're luckly to see as much as 4". What appears to be the case now is the snowfall is worsened by the extreme temperatures, freezes causing hazards and lingers. My kids struggle to believe me when I recall stories of walking to school in drifts pushing 3 - 4 feet.
  16. I'm ENGLISH and proud of that, in fact I would stand up in front of anyone and fight for that belief, beyond anything else, I believe in that simple fact. but I genuinly think the US is the only place I could be happy & relaxed. Anyone know of any company's need a buyer??? I have two daughters, they are 16 and 12. They want to know when we are going to take back the Empire..................
  17. Finally started to think it would be the right idea to cross the pond. My best bud has settled in NY, and I know enough Rednecks now, I could be quite happy there.
  18. Getting all nostalgic for an L1A1 now..................
  19. " Activision has announced Sledgehammer Games, a newly formed studio led by former Visceral Games executives Glen A. Schofield and Michael Condrey, will develop a new Call of Duty title that will "extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre." Even though I didn't get MW2 for dedi reasons, that there is the best reason for me not to bother again with COD!
  20. I reckon my card was marked the last time I voted for the BNP!
  21. That's a great back-story, nice job. Where can I join the ENA............
  22. Christ, I haven't done that for 20 years!
