3D MARK 11

So, Cobol, I am impressed!

Do I read correct? U have a CF with 2 5970 (4 GPUS) ? and 12 GB RAM .. impressive machine!

However that test scares the crap out of me. If your config is correct, nonetheless you scored an FPS average ranging between 65 and 70 on some tests while around 34 on others. All of this at a standard res of only 1024*600.

I mean, what kind of machine you really need to run this test ? 1024*600 is not really a res we use anymore nowadays. Probably you were using a demo version of this test which does not allow res modification, but what happens if you run this test at 1920*1200 ???

I will try to download this test if is compatible with ATI series 4xxx just for fun, to test my CF config with my 2 4850s but... lol.. I am expecting an Epic failure.. lol.

About the 3D Mark 06, I was used to use it as well, till when I noticed that those results are totally tied up to your CPU performances, which defeat the concept of a GPU benchmark.

With 06 I recently made a test with a friend. He got a new 6850 which is supposed to be a quite performing card and he has an AMD quadcore. He scored something around 19k.

My config with CF 2 4850s and CPU i7 920 OC @ 3.5 scored over 22k.

Actually, with the new generation cards, I do not believe the 06 test makes any sense anymore.

EDIT

As I supposed this test requires DX 11 only hardware, so no joy for 4xxx series.

However I noticed the minimal settings are 1280*720 (I guess..), an HD res 720p, wich is a respectable res. Weird tho on the report it says Cobol screen was set at 1024*600...

There are three test modes, first being 1024x600 Entry, 1280x720 Performance, 1920x1080 Extreme. I only posted the Basic test has that seems to be the one every body is doing.

When you see the result a Entry(Exxxxxxx), Performance(Pxxxxxx), Extreme(Xxxxxxxx), are the modes.

Has for GFX cards I only have the one 5970 which is a dual GPU card, hence it saying 2 GFX cards.

My Results :-

Entry New One with a Little OC

Performance No OC will do later

Extreme No OC will do later.

Well my system would not stay stable at 5% over so I had to reset back to nilla.............. but at least the MB handles the Q9505 which is better than an E6850 I just feel like

some games play better at 3gb or over but it could just be in my mind.

Andrewman that's a decent jump just pushing the Gpu! :thumbsup_anim: (watch the heat)

Alright,

I just modded my 6950 to be a 6970 and it is working very well.

Here you can see the Shaders main difference, however you can notice also many other values quite different from stock version, also due to a solid OC: 950 / 1450 actually at max load temp of 80 celsius which is really very good.

and here is my new 3Dmark 11 result:

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/703152

Note the benchmark still sees a 9650 but is running as a 6970

323 pts increase is quite a good margin.

i think this 3d mark stuff is a load of shit myself - if you can run the games you want to run with graphics on a high setting and you dont see low fps causing laggy screens then your system is fine. points really don't mean shit and prolly make a lot of ppl buy new stuff just bcoz they think they are missing out.

i have lost count of the number of graphics cards i have bought expecting something new and amazing compared to the last and there just wasn't that much difference.

even a bottlenecking cpu does not seem to be the huge bottleneck after you replace the cpu.

its all BS - marketing to make you buy more.
