Wow !! I love competition !! Finally Nvidia is coming out again with a Stellar card! There are many things I really like in that review. I will not be an early adopter because what i have is still pretty good and does what I need. However when I will get to the point to fully upgrade my system to the latest generation, this is going to be totally on the to-do-list... if AMD doesn t come out with a Killer solution ;)

Well, my opinion is: @JHunter: I do agree that innovation should be welcome and ppl should be open to learn new technology. At the same time I do justify new technology when "is" new technology, not when is a "messy" reshaping of something resulting into confusing the user. As I said earlier, not everyone has the "Inner Geek" and a large slice of market are computer illiterate users. To those users changing things with no reason IS frustrating. What is the reason to move the Favorites from the Left to the Right?? IE9 innovation is strong. The Browser has a bunch of new perks, just why making it a bit more complicated having the illiterate user to try to figure out where the hell the Favs are gone ?? Windows 8 may have some great new tech under the hood. One of the most important facts is the ARM CPU compatibility. That means MOBILITY. On the other end, why did they removed the START button?? forcing a new user to "like" and use the Metro UI. That is a joke. Considering strong perks of Win 8 are toward mobility, why in the hell forcing the Desktop user to get into a "touch screen" UI ??? Who has around here a touch screen monitor???? Why in the hell would I want to have "large tiles" on my desktop to drag them using my Mouse ??? Is there any reason in the world why i would like to have a Desktop experience looking like a Smartphone experience ???? So, I love innovation, when it makes sense. My concern is not really for us, wether upgrading or not. i don t think any of us will do. My concern is what happen when new PCs will be shipped with Win 8 on?? lol.. Everyone will be looking for a way to kill the stupid UI?

hey Tekkies !! So, a few days ago MS release the evaluation download for Win 8. Did anyone get close to it yet? I read something about it, it seems many things are not functional yet, is just a general taste on the new UI. I also watched some video and reviews. Man, my feeling is not good. Especially for the desktop environment i find MS is going toward a very confused path. Win 8 is a hybrid of Metro (phone UI) and Legacy desktop (Win 7 style). I honestly do not believe they can live together. It doesn t make a hell of sense to me. People is not approaching changes easily, especially when those changes are not necessary. No everyone has an Inner Geek inside and love to test innovation. there the majority of users just want to learn something and stick with their knowledge. They don t need to reinvent the wheel every time. MS on Windows always had this sick ability to screw simple things with no reason. Very simple things, such as Add or Remove Programs in XP and previaous generations, suddenly changed name on Vista and 7. Why?? It still does the same, but now is no more where was supposed to be and ppl was going nuts for a while!! That was just a simple little thing! .. Or, IE8, favorites are on the left end side... IE9 (a way better browser), they are on the RIGHT... and my g/f was screaming and yelling she "lost all of her favorites" .. just because they were on the other side of the screen !! lol.WHY!!?? So, now, Mr. Windows 8 is trying to get to town, to mess our life up once again, with no apparent reason !! What i think is: 1 - Keep Metro UI for whatever mobile device out there. Is touch friendly, it works and should be light enough for mobility. 2 - Keep Win 7 to any NOT mobile device - aka Desktop environment - It works,is good and we learnt how to use it - if ain't broken DON T touch it ! - I WILL NOT ENGAGE WIN 8 experience on my desktop. I will not even try it I am curios to know your feelings about it. What do you think will happen when they will start shipping new PCs with 8 preloaded ? I guess i will open a business as Tech Support just to revert new machines back from shipped 8 to well known 7 $150 per installation, im sure i ll make good money

About control config I had a very weird config in the past.. It worked pretty well to me tho. I had a joy on the left hand, multi bottons and navigational settings and mouse on the right with all the weapons settings. I find Mouse being the most precise firing system in MW. With the left hand on joy i was handling Nav, engine and directions. I disable Y axis to leave full control to mouse and I gave X axis Legs control for direction. Throttle on Joy was providing engine control. I have been using a Logi extreme3D. Is a simple joy. I didn t try to use the throttle part of my Flight system because the throttle there is extremely stiff. In past MW games throttle control needs to be "immediate". Forward and reverse on the spot. Theoretically I could assign just buttons to the engine instead the throttle. Such as Stop, 1/2, Full and Reverse. Just don t like it. This config worked very well to me. Now I do understand MWO will support TrakIR. This is a great news!! I have to figure out what can be the best use of it but having a chance to use the extra help from TrackIR is gonna be stellar.

I watched the full 13 pages thread there.... What that guy did is INSANE !! Amazingly Insane!! ... I mean.. he built the throttle from scratch instead of simply "get" a freaking throttle... just saying... It is unbelievable.. but.. althougn is a great job, I am not sure it is a "modular" solution. meaning.. you can t do that kind of work and then not being preparred to swap modules in case the final game you are going to use is going to change commands/inputs. He built all of that around MW3 info for the most part. And the other aspect i am not fully happy about is the screen. Buttom line, a mech cockpit should be a "visual" experience. This guy made an awaesom job, don t get me wrong, but it seems like a very old project and didn t follow up with latest technology. Probably when he started (Mechwarrior 3 age) 1 screen was what all of us could think about. In the last 2 years we are talking about 3-screens at least to work on the sideviews. That cockpit makes me think of an old Inner Sphere mech. Then Clans came over and their cockpits had above and beyond tech !! lol.. Not to be picky, but if I shoudl put down a project for something similar, would be a bit different.... however i am not even able to mount a shelf to the wall.. soooo... I should pay millions to someone to do it for me

I hope your words are right Gunthar I couldn t ask more than having a nice group with Spartans to have a consistent presence on MWO. I hope we will be able to accomodate a couple of Lances US and a couple of Lances UK to match time-frame needs. Mixing is always welcome anyway, but that can make it difficult sometimes About the Lances, I do remember a Lance was 4 Mechs for IS, while the Star Lance on Clan was 5 Mechs.. I may be wrong.. it has been too much time

Agreed. Difference between being a House Company or a Merc Unit are in the Perks the two status may offer. That is still a bit unclear. Let s see how many will join the cause and then we ll see what we ll be able to effort

Well, It is definetely a Strategy game. It s not an RTS because is not a Real Time Strategy. It works in turns. 2 or more players move their pieces on the boatd with 2 phases; one phase is movement, one phase is combat. Each "piece" is a Mech,, lsrge bot wit a human pilot inside, which add the fact pilot can be killed or injured, compromising Mech performances.

I guess you never played the original Battletech board game Viii.. The old game, in the 80s.. 90s, was a borda game based on turns and actions, very simulative, played on large maps with exagons.. Long story short, they made a translation of the old board game with cool 3D effect and animations. i mean.. Nowadays i don t know if that is cool. It is cool for me because it reminds me great games i had on that boardgame.. lol.. Vintage stuff ;)

Yeah.. I am glad you like it I ve been sorta against to SSDs for long time, mostly related to their price / effectiveness, however when you have a chance to get one for the right price, an SSD is an undeniable improvement. Matter of fact, the speed is important. However if you dedicate only your OS to the SSD, then besides very fast bootstraps and fast Internet navigation, I am not sure you are really enjoying the improvement. Any application NOT residing on the SSD will read and write at the HDD speed. Enjoy what you got, but wouldn t have been better getting at least a 90GB to put a bit more apps on it ?
