  1. For what its worth, here's my suggestion for server rules/announcements: Welcome to LOSC HC/tactical server. Read and follow the rules - they are enforced! Crouch and walking movement only. No running unless under direct fire. No bunny hopping or dolphin diving. No foul language or trash talk. One of the servers we've been playing on allows for walking movement w/o sights up and I think its a nice compromise and works well with Black Ops - so Im suggesting we copy it.
  2. Unquestionably one of the finest wargame series ever for PC, especially 'A Bridge Too Far.' Not only does it have excellent tactical combat gameplay, but its really unique it its level of historical accuracy. I cant think of a more lovingly crafted PC wargame - whoever was involved with 'A Bridge Too Far' must have been a huge military history buff. Next to TalonSoft games or the Battlefront games, the Close Combat series was the only true 'wargame' I think to ever be on a computer. I still have A Bridge Too Far's original CD, booklets, and box - its currently residing at my brother's house ... he and my 9 year old nephew play it regularly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgfELyneohc&playnext=1&list=PL8707DB7D2989BB16&index=4
  3. I think there are only two sensible products for personal computing at this point, a desktop and a smart phone. Everything else is just landfill material ... laptops, netbooks, ipads, console game systems, all that junk is just that, junk. Youve got a desktop where you can do proper work, or be properly entertained and then you have a small portable device that handles mobile communications and some entertainment. Nuff said.
  4. Happy B-Day you paleo-conservative ;)
  5. Some folks who know me may be surprised that Im a big fan of this guy NutNFancy and his YouTube vids but I am (see Cy ... not all "socialists" are alike). I dont always agree with the guy, and sometimes I think his take on gear is wrong, but he does great reviews off all cool "dude" things (guns, knives, tools, camping gear, etc.). Check his YouTube station out: NutNFancy
  6. Power has been out at my place for two days ... could stay out into the weekend. Im at a motel with my girl and our dog - first connectivity Ive had since power has been out (first hot shower too!). I dont have TS on this laptop, but I can get ProCon up so anyone can remote admin our MOH server. If you all want it up and going just reply here and Ill start it up. I hope I have power up by tomorrow, Cheers, Brer
  7. Gimme a new Homeworld game instead!
  8. That lovely bathroom mirror brought to you by the helpful people at INGSOC.
  9. BrerRabbit Same as in TS but no space between Brer and Rabbit.
  10. Cy, Majestic, EMT, me and some others are on most nights.
  11. New DLC coming Nov. 2 (ish) to MOH. 1. New MP mode, "Clean Sweep" - two teams, 4 minutes, no respawns, TDM. 2. Two new maps for Clean Sweep mode. 3. Two existing maps modded for Clean Sweep. Some debate on the interwebs about whether or not this DLC is coming to PC, but from the preview below it seems certain that its coming to PC (in minute 1:02 you can see the text "PRESS LEFT MOUSE BUTTON TO ...") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-efGmPvwBE
  12. I reset the server to Chicago to test the latency - I'll reset it to Atlanta if the latency it decidedly worse. So, everyone will have to do a new search for "SPARTA" and re-save it to favorites.
  13. Sparta has its own server up and running. I figured there were enough people now and it makes sense to have a server with the map rotation we want, rules we want, and the ability to boot fools. So I went ahead and flowed for a month. No obligation to play on it. I named it "SPARTA HC Map/Mode rotation" - if you have any suggestions about other names for the server please post em. Happy to call it "Ali Baba's House" or whatever. Im in the process of putting a little banner together for it atm.

  15. First, I have to say that must be one of the most ill conceived add campaigns ever. Not only is it in extremely bad taste, but it also provides little information about this "1010global" initiative. I dont know anything about 1010global.org, and now I am interested in finding out about them (and who funds them) simply because these ads are so shockingly bad. I think these commercials are representative of the state of public discourse and acceptable 'taste' in media - in other words there seems to be no limit to how low we can sink, regardless of the topic at hand. I also want to point out that its not accurate at all to throw the label 'environmentalists' around when talking about this add - environmentalists come in all manner of stripes and its not some monolithic regimented movement, and the poorly conceived ad campaign of one group (or the goals/agenda of one group) do not and cannot represent environmentalism as a whole. And yeah, in case you havent guessed it, I consider myself an 'environmentalist,' and thats a board title that can mean all manner of things.
  16. Well, I bought the game on Steam last night, as did Majestic, as is Cylawyer (or at least hes leaning heavily toward getting it). Yeah, it is in many ways BC2 in a new skin ... but I like BC2 and I like the new skin!
  17. 7 DAYS LEFT! Seven days remaining till the end of Round 1 (Oct. 10). So get your times in for Shakir (Bharain), Melbourne (Australia), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Remember, there are two classes of times (assisted/unassisted) - so pick which you want and go for it. Thanks to Phil for that great website - easy way to check times while offlinie. A reminder though, the in-game leaderboards will be the final/official time for the championships. Also, if you arent a regular on the F1 TS channel, and if you are participating in this championship, please tell me your WindowsLive account name so I can friend you and track your times. Alternatively, you can send me a friend invite, my Live name is "TheBrerRabbit". Current standings (3:00pm EST, Oct. 3). Sakhir: Hermes (AS) Hajimoto (1:51:813) Cobol (1:55:380) Yankee (1:57:066) Mercury (NoAS) SkeleTele (1:51:527) TheBrerRabbit (1:55:251) Melbourne Hermes (AS) Xenocidal (aka MH6) (1:25:588) Hajimoto (1:26:445) Yankee (1:27:090) Mercury (NoAS) Skele (1:25:876) TheBrerRabbit (1:28:914) Kuala Lumpur Hermes (AS) Hajimoto (1:34:779) Mercury (NoAS) Skele (1:32:958) TheBrerRabbit (1:41:499) Again, if you dont see yourself on these current standings, you need to tell me your Live name or send me a friend invite so I can track your official in game leaderboard times. Cheers, Brer
  18. First, a patch is coming to F1 2010. No details as of yet, but at least Codemasters isnt just dropping the ball. Click me. Second, I discovered accidently how to add AI drivers to our multiplayer matches! This means no more idiot random dudes or German players! When you set up a multiplayer match just arrow over to the driver slots and then hit 'enter' on a vacant slot and choose to place an AI driver. You can set the AIs difficulty level (from Amatuer to Legend). You still need at least one more real player to start the match.
  19. A texture editor for F1 2010 is out! Texture Editor Now, I dont know, if you mess with the textures do you possibly invalidate your F1 copy? Also I dont know anything about this moddingway site, so DL at your own risk. Also, if you create a custom skin, is it vissible just for yourself of can everyone see it? I guess some brave soul will have to test this out.
  20. The United States Grand Prix is coming back, and this time not to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but to a brand new purpose built track in Austin Texas. Starting in 2012, and guarenteed to run to 2021, the new USGP track is designed to be a world beater - very curvy and with F1s third greatest elevation change. Check out the site: USGP
  21. Note: its probably best to drive the McLaren car when doing time trials (that or one of the other leading cars) as you will get much more performance from it - the Time Trials use the 2010 car standings/specs so all the car teams perform differently (this is quite different from the multiplayer matches we've been running where all the cars are equal). Also, if you wanted, you could establish times for tracks ahead of when they are officially scheduled for this championship.
  22. Here's an attempt to put a little structure to the informal Time Trial battles that have been on-going in F1 2010 (not too much structure ... but just enough). Father Time Beat Down - F1 2010 Time Trial Championship Structure The championship will be divided into two weeks rounds and include 3 tracks - there are 19 tracks in game, so there will be 5 rounds using 3 tracks, and then a round using 4 tracks. Anyone can participate using the Time Trial mode in game. You do not have to race all three tracks in a given round (you can choose to focus on one track if you wish). The championship is broken out into two groups or two sets of times: Hermes [assisted] and Mercury [unassisted] (thought Id use Greek /Roman god names to keep with the whole 'Sparta' theme). Drivers can compete in both groups, i.e. you can place both assisted and unassisted times for a single track and win both. All times will be be set for 'Dry;' conditions - there will however be later, starting in Round 2, a bonus 'wet' track - again divided into time sets: Poseidon [assisted], and Neptune [unassisted]. There will be Gold Wreath [first place], Silver Wreath [second place], and Bronze Wreath [third place] winners for each round for the two time sets (assisted/unassisted). At the end of all this there will be a "Grand Champion" announced for the driver(s) (again in the two time groups) with the best overall record. What constitutes "Assisted"? The game itself defines using any one of the Driving assists in a time trial race as assisted driving - the two exceptions to this are Pit Limiter and Pit Box Control. So to be clear, using any assists other than Pit Limiter and Pit Box Control will result in your time being flagged, by the game, as assisted. Prizes? Yeah that would be fun - please suggest any. I was thinking of making up some forum signatures in photoshop. When do we race? "We" dont race as a group per se, as you race Time Trials on your own and at any time. The only scheduling stipulation is that you get times in for the tracks you want in the given two week championship period (see below). Schedule (Subject to change based on comments, drivers real life schedules, and participation levels) Round 1 Sept. 27, 2010 ~ Oct. 10, 2010 Tracks: Shakir (Bharain), Melbourne (Australia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Round 2 Oct. 11, 2010 ~ Oct. 24, 2010 Tracks: Shanghai (China), Catalunya (Spain), Monte Carlo (Monaco) Bonus wet track: Melbourne (Australia). Any further rounds to be detailed based on interest/participation/feedback.
  23. Its free and easy, and once registered you can watch lap footage of the races thus far in the 2010 season. The on-board lap movies also indicate what gear the diver is in, tac revs, track position etc. Its not a bad way to study up on tracks and see how a pro does it. The whole F1 site is excellent and full of good info beyond just the race films. F1 Official site
  24. Very very nice time. I was thinking it might be fun to have a "Stig" tournament for the best time trial times. We'd pick four three tracks, and people will get two weeks to set time trial times for them. Two categories: 1. times with assists on ("White Stig"), 2. times with assists off ("Black Stig"). The winners get a custom slick "Stig sig" showing the the tracks they ran and their times. Then we move on to the next three races. Rinse and repeat. Anyone interested in setting a competition like this up? Id work up the sigs in photoshop if folks want to do this.
