  1. That's unfortunate. My other two friends seem to have working copies. One is for sure on a Windows 7 system and a high-end rig. The other on a laptop, not sure what OS. Though I'm pretty sure they both got Steam copies of the game....
  2. Not to mention their draconian DRM which they are infamous for. And after the "From Dust" fiasco Ubisoft lost even more credibility with PC gamers everywhere. They announced and advertised there was no DRM, launch came and there was DRM. So far it's the only game Steam has ever offered refunds for regardless of region. It was that bad. AC is probably the only series that isn't completely terrible on PC. Every other game has been a garbage port. And for a professional company to make such ignorant and insulting comments in public is pretty pathetic. Idc how good the new Rainbow Six may or may not be, I refuse to purchase it now.
  3. Maybe if all of Ubisoft's games weren't half-assed ports with horribly annoying DRM, people would be more inclined to actually purchase their product on PC. It's a real shame such a backwards-thinking company owns the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon series.
  4. Idk if you guys have been keeping up with the controvery Ubisoft has stirred with their unsurprising PC hate comments. Initial statement from Ubisoft: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/24/ubisoft-i-am-alive-skipping-pc-because-its-not-worth-it/ Ubisoft basically says that the PC market isn't "worth it" since we're all pirates who do nothing but bitch. Quotes: "We?ve heard loud and clear that PC gamers are bitching about there being no version for them... " "It?s hard because there?s so much piracy and so few people are paying for PC games that we have to precisely weigh it up against the cost of making it. Perhaps it will only take 12 guys three months to port the game to PC. It?s not a massive cost but it?s still a cost. If only 50,000 people buy the game, then it?s not worth it." Today they "retracted" their statements. More specifically, they only retracted the bit about the game not being on the PC platform. They said nothing about labeling the PC community as bitchy pirates. Retract: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/25/i-am-alive-dev-retracts-pc-hate/ Conveniently, and likely purposefully, Gabe Newell himself wrote to IGN about piracy and how it's a non-issue if you can offer a great service. http://games.ign.com/articles/121/1213357p1.html
  5. Yeah, you can definitely play any one game and be totally fine. Playing the others just gives you some backstory/lore to the world and usually has very little to do with the current story or characters. They all take place in different regions of the world. 3-5 are the only ones that actually matter as far as story/lore goes though.
  6. Game is SO epic! I understand your skepticism Batwing, as I too have a fear of sandbox games that are "too" open. I usually don't do well in games that give me little direction. I didn't enjoy Oblivion that much at all for those reasons. That, and the story didn't intrigue me. But Skyrim... really something else. Bethesda has really perfected their craft with this game. Sure, it's so easy to get sidetracked from the main story all the time, but exploring and looting and following side-stories and lore has actually been made fairly entertaining this time around. There really hasn't been a dull moment since the opening scenes. That and the game is just pure eye-candy all the time. There are bits and pieces where its obvious that it's running on DX9 tech, but it's still a fantastic looking game. Combat is engaging and fun and of course the dragon fights are awesome! There's always a quest to complete, items to gather, crafting weapons and armor, enchanting them, discovering new potions, and wooing the ladyfolk (ineffectively on my part, LOL). It's still all pretty overwhelming at first, especially if you're new to Elder Scrolls games. But Bethesda did a pretty decent job this time of explaining things a bit more simply so that you aren't stuck figuring out what skill paths to take or what have you. Hopefully others will be able to tear themselves away from the game for a few moments to post their opinions on the game as well. As for me, back to Skyrim! I'm waging war against the Empire as we speak! DOVAKHIN!
  7. If you watch again, they threw him over because the bomb got activated remotely from a cell phone. They didn't have time for the bomb squad to get there.
  8. Eh, doesn't surprise me. The first day it released we were all playing for almost all 24 hours. I've got 50+ hours into it now, but one of our guys already has 100+ hours invested in the game.
  9. The green flashes that all of us experience from time to time is a diver issue. That's on Nvidia/ATI to fix. It's far less frequent and annoying than in beta, but still kinda sucky to see in the final game. I've seen far more debilitating graphical errors before, but hopefully it gets fixed soon. As for the full monitor on/off thing, I have no idea. Like somebody mentioned earlier, sounds like a refresh rate issue. Have you tried settting it to 60Hz or something lower than 75? And if you think CoD is going to be any better, you're only fooling yourself man, lol. Black Ops was nigh unplayable until 4 patches after release. I don't expect any better out of MW3, especially on PC which is going to be a generally disregarded platform for them anyway.
  10. Still not really reverting to their roots and still looks a lot like Vegas/Vegas 2 (with some Heavy Rain influence). Keep in mind none of this is real gameplay and is just a target goal for the final product. But even with all that said, the story and mini plots seem a lot more compelling as a single player game this time around. May give this one a shot depending on how things turn out (not due out until 2013). More articles can be found on PC Gamer.
  11. Future ladders/tournaments will likely be 12v12, but we'll see. Competitive scene might be put on hold until December. Rumor has it that Battlerecorder and spectate features will come with the Karkand DLC in December.
  12. B-Team (my team) is participating in the first ever BF3 TWL tournament for PC. We'll be livestreaming the match tonight at 9:30 EST. If we make it to round 2, it will be on Thursday about the same time. I'll keep you guys updated as things progress. Format: single-elimination. 64 teams. 8v8 Conquest. Map 1: Metro. Map 2: Canals. Cheer us on in our livestream chat! We're streaming all hours of the day as well as our practice scrims in the evening. Livestream: http://www.twitch.tv/bteamgaming/
  13. My 560 Ti runs this game like a boss. Far and away the best bang for your buck and is a perfect candidate to SLI later on. Seeing as EVGA has discontinued their line of Classified 570 cards (and all 500 series Classified cards) there really isn't another 570 that would give you the performance of a stock 580 for 150 dollars cheaper. 570 is still a solid choice, but I'd imagine the 560 Ti is more within your budget.
  14. The best way to learn a map isn't just to walk around alone. It's a good start if you're looking at a map the first time, but it gives you very little sense of the flow of battle. What seemed like a great hidey spot on your own may quickly turn into a killzone in a fully packed server. In my experience, the best way is to pub a lot of games together (A LOT) and learn the maps under fire. You'll find those good angles, common routes, and the "real" cover pretty quick when the bullets are flying and you're low on health. But maybe that's just me.
  15. Sorry, didnt read the whole thing, but I couldnt help but notice this: " On Windows XP, you would right click ?My Computer? -> Properties -> Advanced tab -> ?Settings? button under ?Performance? -> Advanced tab -> ?Change? button under ?Virtual Memory?. While it sounds like it would be a great idea to make this as high as possible, it can have negative effects if you make it too high. Try increasing it little by little to see if it helps at all. Note that Virtual Disk space is used on the hard drive to assist RAM" In particular, the Windows XP part. XP is not supported for BF3. I'm sure its not all that different to get to the same settings in Win 7, I'm just nit-picky. XD
  16. I've had this monitor for over 6 years, pretty sure whatever warranty I had has long expired.
  17. It's definitely times like these I wish I had a soldering gun. I'm not the greatest at it, but I'm sure whats going on is a pretty easy fix for those with access to the right tools and components. Unfortunately, idk anybody who has said tools or components, and I'm sure PC repair shops would charge a whole lot more than the job is worth. I have no fear taking this bad boy apart, just no tools to do anything about it.
  18. No, the screen acts as if the monitor was actually turned off, but the power light is still on. Absolutely nothing when pressing menu buttons, no faint image, just totally off, lol. It's an old Gateway 21" LCD. Model #2100, Product # FPD2185W
  19. Yeah, let us know how it goes. Been hearing mixed/poor reviews on those Bulldozers for gaming. Sounds like they work great for everything except games. The i5 2500K has been reported to outperform the 8150. Could just be driver issues on AMD's part, but who knows.
  20. I have Power Saver and all that crap turned off at all times. I had the monitor set to sleep after 15 minutes of idling, but I'll turn that off for now. EDIT: Yep, still cut out.
  21. Hey guys, been running into some issues lately with my monitor. It will randomly cut out to a black screen, yet will still be powered. Usually comes back on when I press the power button a few times or unplug it once or twice. The only changes to my system lately is that I added a temporary second monitor to my rig, found a little old one to use for the time being. However, I'm pretty sure it's just coincidence that this started happening around the same time I hooked that up. There's no way my PSU can't handle them both (850W Corsair). Plus this is happening regardless if the second one is on or not. Some things I notice when it cuts out or when I'm trying to turn it back on: There's a very light, high-pitched hum when the screen is properly running. This hum will disappear when it goes black, but the power light will still be on. The monitor goes truly black, as in completely off. No backlight, nothing, just as if I had turned it off myself. If you guys have any suggestions or ideas regarding my situation, I'm willing to hear them. My best guess is that the monitor's internal power supply is finally crapping out after all these years (monitor is about 10 years old now, lol). I was hoping I could still save this monitor to use a my "new" second monitor when I buy a shiny new 24" Asus. But if this keeps up and it's just old and dying, I may suffice getting a different second monitor or two 21" ones.
  22. It's not a new thing per-se, it's the old "Operation: Flashpoint" game under the ArmA name. It is rather confusing since the originals were published by Codemasters back in the day. They (Codemasters) still own the rights to the name "Operation: Flashpoint" but the original developers (Bohemia) moved on to create the ArmA series, which are the spiritual successors to the originals. Unlike Codemasters horribly failed attempt at making OPF an arcade shooter. All Bohemia did was change the name of the old games (which they still own, just not the trademark/name) and re-released them under the ArmA name.
  23. *Bohemia not Codemasters. Minor, insignificant detail I know. XD
  24. Watching someone play a shooter on a console is painful.... Seine Crossing likely won't be that small on PC (since we have the 64 player Conquest mode that the consoles don't). Wasn't it announced somewhere that Metro is actually the smallest map? More excited for Firestorm and Bazaar so far.
  25. So, I was streaming Killing Floor for kicks and giggles. When I was adjusting the stream somebody in the chat told me to play the Inception OST. I kinda said w/e to the idea, and put it in a playlist on Youtube while I played and didn't think much of it. Little did I know the music would sync ever so perfectly.... http://www.twitch.tv/thronewolf/b/297429431 Enjoy.
