RAM problems

Hi,

I have 2GB OCZ special ops urban elite 6400 800mhz DDR2 RAM - RAM

I have them running in dual channel on a Asus P5ne sli MOBO - My MOBO

The RAM has stock timings of 4-4-3-15. In My BIOS it is set to auto and in CPU-z the timings are at :-

5-5-5-31. ?? At the default 800mhz

So i have set the timings to manual and have tried to achieve the given stock speeds stated above.

IT WONT POST!

It gets so far and freezes or I get a corrupt/missing windows system config file.

I have tried adjusting the voltage and allsorts. Still crashes, or crashes as soon as i get in game.

The best I have gotten (and current) is 5-5-5-15 with auto voltage.

This wont do, i want AT LEAST stock speeds.

The CPU is running at 3.0ghz and I have set this to default when I was changing the timings so had no effect.

Do i need to flash BIOS? even though everything else runs lovely.

Is my RAM on the blink?

I have been reading up on this and im abit stuck now.

Any help please.

Thanks.

Sounds like a unstable condition, and the setting is past the point of stability for the board causeing it not to post. Best thing to do is contact Asus and OCZ and see what they say to get to the bottom of it. I don't run intell boards so Thats all i can suggest. There is a point that you cannot go past, sounds like you are there.

The Auto voltage does not work properly for asus boards. Check the correct voltage for your ram (I think its 2.1) and check what voltage you are actually using (which was around 1.8 on my board). Then set your voltage manually and see how it goes.

Other than that I have no ideas.

On manual settings set timings as you need have you set voltage to 2.1v?

I could be wrong but because of the multiplier the mhz should be set to 400 try this mate.

Try one stick at a time on those settings.

Yes I have tried several voltage settings. But I will try again.

right, I was wondering about that. Set the DRAM at 400mhz yeah? do you think it might be trying to run at 1600mhz?

will do.

that cant be right, or it wouldnt of booted surely seen as my board has a limit of 800mhz.

CPU-z registers speeds of 800mhz.

This is annoying.

Custard can you have a look in you BIOS and tell me what you have set for

cpu fsb - mine is 1333 for 3.0ghz

ram - mine is 800 for 800mhz

ram timings - mine is 5-5-5-15

ram voltage - mine is auto at the moment and it stable.

Cheers mate.

OK so iv got the following :-

FSB:DRAM - 3:4

4-4-4-15 volt at 2.1v

stable as we speak.

Iv dropped CPU down to 2.70ghz.

I tried to change the multiplier from 9x to 10x or 11x and get my 3.0ghz with a lower FSB but every time I rebooted it reset to 9x.

Isit locked?

Just installed SATA drive number 2 for games :)

NB......my MOBO has 2 yellow slots and 2 black slots for RAM, read on a forum works better in black slots, so I swapped them and we have been stable since, might put the CPU back up to 3.0ghz and run some tests.

Thanks.

Ok at the asus independent forum I found a thread for a P5N that would not remember the fsb manual settings and the solution was a proper reflash of the bios from a floppy or usb stick.

I know thats not the setting that won't save in your BIOS but it's all I have at the mo.

BTW following is link for site it's better than official Asus site as they will discuss OCing.
