My wife and I recently bought the Kodak EasyShare All-In-One 5300.

http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jht..._requestid=6593

The Printer is much cheaper if you look around at prices. but the ink, color for 14.99 and black for 9.99, you cant beat. i printed a ton of papers for class last semester on a single black cartridge. My wife prints out pictures all the time and they are good quality even at the lowest setting.

I got tired of spending $25 per printer cartridge and saw this printer. My parents even bought one after seeing ours. they got the better model though, the one with the fax and adapter to print on both sides. Personally, their printer has the better control layout. I have mine on a shelf in my office and it is difficult to see the screen because it is all the way in the back. But the high end model has it right up front which is nice.

Hope this helps broaden the search.

Simple and has been for the last 20 years or so, the formula as worked for me and many of my customers.

Ink jet :- Epson only

Laser :- Hp Only

Dot Matrix :- OKI

Color Laser :- Techtronics

If you require Multifunction then Brother only on the laser side, or if Ink Jet multifunction, HP as software and hardware work. Where as Epson do make a better inkjet but lack stability when it come to a multifunction on the ink jet side.

Simplicity is the best, plus all manufactures do a various rage depending what you main requirement is.

Example :-

Epson Ink Jet if its photo quality then any of the Photo range will do. If it's like photo or office work, the the color range will do. If you require heavy duty high speed copies but do not require color then HP Laser jet. If your require heavy duty copies and photo quality (but not as good as a epson photo range) then techtronics laser. If you require multipart for Invoice, Picking Lists, ect then you can't beat a good old OKI printer.

I guess a Ink Jet is what you are looking for, I just posted other info for other users that may read. If you buy a ink jet get a epson, and don't skimp on cost. The one you want is one that as separate Ink cartridges for each color. More cost effective in long run. As you dont throw away half your ink away when the black is empty, and the other colors are still full. But remember they cost more to start with.

Do not buy lexmark or cannon, they do not make good printers.

Thanks guys. Ill check out the epson's. That kodac one looks cool, Medic, it it networkable, I looked but didnt see anything about it. ive been thinking of one with connectivity as going through the windows network is a pain sometimes and my comoputer isnt always on for eh other one to use. i do have a little netgear print server here too so I could use that if need be.

+1 for Epson ... Simply put better printers,

use the right paper and they copy just as well as a laser at a fraction of the cost (Photo realism)

Tanks can be filled with ink bottles which are cheap (buy a 1lt black as that you use the most)

I don't have all in one setup so can't comment on that type of machine. (Cannon for scanner)

Friends have "Brother" all in one types and i have not herd any bad reports, don't know about ink replacement.

If your not doing any high quality photo printing to large size for framed portraits/pictures often, I think your best bet would be an all in one, You can always take a burned CD to local printers to get a quality print run off. Printing quality prints costs a lot for paper and ink, consider this cost as mistakes happen and before you know it that A4 print of a picture cost you $20+, so if this is not your need often .... All in one and get a specialist to run a copy for you from your disk as required.

Like people above said .... Read many reviews, it will become apparent if there is a flaw or issue with the said machine, Just don't pay much attention to those who endorse it so much ... Places get paid to write a good review more often than not even thou the product is utter crap.

If i was to upgrade my printer ( i have a HP deskjet 930c) i would go for a Cannon as you can get all the colours in singles and it would save you money in long run. :D .

I.E what i am trying to say is if one colour runs out you can replace just that single colour. thatw ay you get to use all the ink .

The printer does not have a network port, so I just printer share through a USB for my PCs. They all work and two are XP Pro and the other two are Vista. It works just fine. But I do miss the port. However, this allows me to plugin all 4 of my pcs to my router/switch and use them all without having to buy extra hardware for networking or swapping out a cable when that pc needs internet or LAN.

I have an Epson Sylus 600 that I bought at least 8 years ago.

It just started having problems this year. So they are excellent. Epson rocks.

My biggest complaint with it was the price of its ink cartridges.

Although it probably won't last very long,

I got a Dell inkjet "photo 924" copy-scan-print for $89.00 when I bought my daughters dell laptop 2 years ago.

I have been impressed with its abilities considering it is a cheap unit.

It will scan and print at 4800 dpi. With good quality inkjet photo paper, I can't tell the difference between the photo's it prints and those from the store.

One of the biggest problem with Dell is until recently you could only buy the cartridges from them.

They have finally stopped that practice.

The other problem with Dell is their unit quality can be hit or miss; you might get one like mine that has done well for 2 years or you might get one that starts having problems in a year. My father has one that has done well for about 3 years.

Because of their inconsistent quality it was a gamble that I was only willing to take with that $89.00 special.

When you get one just be sure you get a 4-1 or at least a 3-1 that scans and copies. The 4-1 printers also have fax.

It really is worth having that stuff available right at your desk.

I wasn't sure I really needed it but wow! it has been handy. The logistics of running down to the nearest xerox machine or printer store are gone. I can't believe how much easier life is with one.

I found it especially helpful for kids still in school. It really assists their needs for reports, projects, etc.
