  1. Yes, possibly but this is a fix for a friend that expects the PC to do whatever she wants without having to know how it works. When I mentioned Bios she went blank, so slaving HD's etc are way over her head.
  2. This is the user password you enter to get you to your windows desktop. It was setup this way as there were multiple users and they obviously wanted privacy at the time. A CMOS battery pull wont fix this, as I also have user passwords on my machine and when I've pulled the battery to rest the board bios it's never affected this password.
  3. I have a friend who cannot update her PC as she doesn't know the admin's password. The PC was set up by her partner who has moved on and can't be contacted. Can this be done through the bios screen or will she still need to know the old password to reset it??? Ta, Watchy
  4. I live 20 minutes from the Battle of Bosworth Field Historical centre and there is a guy there that regularly puts on archery displays, using Yew bows. Last time I was there we talked about the bows and how they were made. He did tell me at the time where he gets them from and from memory they weren't too expensive. I'll keep an eye out for the next event and go and have a proper chat with him and take note of the details. Exchange rate's about $1.60 / £ at the moment???
  5. Found this after a quick Google and when I have £300 spare, I'll definately get back into this. Classic English Longbow I think I'd prefer this to going back to a recurve, after all it would be more for enjoyment than competition, these days.
  6. Yes, you can shoot accurately it just takes practise to get used to the style. I could routinely hit centre target at around 20 metres with a longbow. Bullseye accuracy could have been improved over time but in context of hitting centre mass of an animal, it's pretty repeatable. In comparison to a recurve / compound bow, where you would pull the string to your chin and look through the sight, on a longbow you pull the string to your cheek with the arrow at eye level and sight along the shaft. Being right handed I would sight slightly right of centre.
  7. I was big into archery during my teen years, mostly with compound & recurve bows but I did have a more traditional long bow, although not a yew bow as would have been the norm in King Henry's days. I have since tried a traditional Yew longbow and they are unbelievable to use! My old recurve bow had a draw weight of 40lbs and I'd put the Yew bow at somewhere around 60! From the second I had the string back to my cheek my whole upper body was shaking. The force with which it hit the target was unbelievable, with the arrow going clean through a 4" thick wound straw target board. I wouldn't have wanted to be a Frenchie facing these things down.
  8. I always find the battle at Agincourt to be doubly impressive as the heavily outnumbered English Army were in poor state and actually returning to the then English held port of Calais, to regroup and recover over the winter. King Henry understood that if he held off any longer the French numbers would continue to grow and defeat would be almost inevitable. Hence his tactic to actually attack the French, aided by the French arrogance that they were better and would therfore obviously win. The English longbow, proved to be a major factor in the victory, almost 5000 of the 6000 men Henry had were longbowmen, graced with tremedous skill in their art. As is usual the French were battered into submission, with some reports suggested a loss ratio of 6:1, with the Englsh only losing somewhere in the region of 1500 men. I suppose I can see why the French aren't big fans of the English .... shouldn't pick fights if they're no good at it!
  9. Damn, that had to be so worth it though!
  10. Happy b'day Durka, 30... old beyond your years. Or at least that's how you sound!
  11. Happy Birthday Cy, trust you'll have a good one.
  12. I've noticed since the Win 7 install that my 4870 is running around 5 degrees higher than when on XP.
  13. Okay, game seems to be stable enough but major problems with TS. Struggling to get people to hear me and can't get sound through my headset, no matter what settings I use. Will continue to work on this, as using headset mike and desktop speakers is a complete pain in the arse!
  14. Was more worried about the lockup to be honest. I was on my way to the flag and it just froze. I had to ctrl-alt-del to get out of Arma. Will give it a proper go shortly, just skyping the love of my life ;)
  15. The -winxp parameter worked, cheers Sneaky. Managed to eventually get into the Dom server and gfx were back to normal. The base was on fire mind and I did crash out but maybe a server issue??? Was around 18.25 GMT. I'm gonna grab some food, fix TS then hopefully get on the server and make sure all is ok.
  16. Sneaky, does this assume Win 7 Pro or Ultimate, that have the ability to support XP programs? I only bought Win 7 Home Premium, which doesn't have the XP support function. I will try this tonight though, ahead of re-installing game, drivers etc. Thx
  17. TS.... yes, that's the next thing. Went on BPR's server tonight to make sure that was working but didn't seem as if it was. Bloody computers!!!
  18. Ok, I've put the VopSound mod and my profiles in the same places you guys had, so that bit was done right. I've dl'd the drivers from Guru but they look to be the same, Catalyst 9.10. I.m sure this isn't related but to get my 8gig of RAM to work I had to take my CPU back to stock so instead of running at the 2.59 per core it's now back to 1.86. I'll google and see if anybody has experience dsimilar. Thx for the comments so far guys.
  19. Almost dropped this in the tech section but it's a specific Arma2 problem, so here goes. Installed Windows 7, went very smoothly and impressed so far. Even managed to get my 8GB of RAM to show up. I installed the game tonight, along with all 3 patches (in order). I had already downloaded and installed the latest drivers for my Radeon 4870. Went into the game tonight to see if alls well and have the blockiest, no detail gfx I've ever seen. My settings are exactly as previous, either high or normal and no amount of change could rectify the problem. Has anyone else gone from XP Pro to Win7 and had similar issues or have they all gone smoothly? Points to note: When I went to the Radeon site for the drivers although I clicked on Win7 as my OS it always took me to the Vista 64 driver. I'm guessing this is all they have listed at the moment and the key is that they are 64 bit? When I copied over the VopSound-2.1 mod and my profile folders I put them in the corresponding directories as they were when created on the XP Pro setup. Should they go elsewhere now that I am on Win7 This is the first game I've installed so would like to crack these probs before I put others back on. Thx for any help / advice. Watchy
  20. Got the 8gb to register at the expense of my cpu overclocking. Had to go into bios and reset to defaults and then it fired up. This was a purely random idea borne out of frustration, now Ijust have to try to overlock the bugger again!
  21. Installed Win 7 home premium and it auto installed ie8, so likewise no idea what's going on with that. I did a clean install ( or so I thought) as I was upgrading from XP Pro. It ran as expected, asking me to pick the drive to install on etc but once loaded I couldn't get over how little disc space I had left. When I checked my HD I discovered a directory called Windows.old. Turns out that it keeps a copy of your entire system regardless of the clean install, so I had 196GB of old OS and all my programs and files.
  22. Athlon, as stated the RAM is all the same manufacturer / type, bought specifically to go up to 8GB when I decided to go to a 64bit system. Which I have now done, with Windows 7. Kram, yes the board has two black slots, 1st & 3rd which work fine with 2 x 2GB and 2 yellow slots 2nd & 4th. I haven't tried the yellow slots on their own but will do that on Monday to at least make sure the connectors aren't faulty. The mobo cab support 8GB, as 4 x 2GB and prior to ordering I did check the mobo manual for compatibility and Kingston was in there as an OK brand but who knows? If and when I crack this I'll update the post and maybe it works for you as well.
