Athlon64~SPARTA~
Or sounds like a program conflict, Vista comes with all the codecs to do all of the DVD stuff and you should not have to use secondary software to wacth or burn dvds. UNINSTALL cyber link player and reboot and runn the window media player or media center to do that. Remember this is vista not XP and it comes with all the stuff to do all the DVD stuff you want to do. Unlike Crappy xp that you have to go and download codec packs and players just to wacth a DVD. Also go to th e drive propertys and check all of the setting for the DVD drive, could be something is not enabled. DrNo~SPARTA~
single drive. so ill have to rip one out of the old machine to try out that I know worked. it stats ok, but only freezes in about the second or third preview with cyberlink and simular with the other, I tried a new disc from last week and a disk from 2006, simular results with each with the end being a freeze of unrecoverable porportions. The hard drive light will stay on when the computer becomes un responsive. When this happens with cyberlink, the mouse freezes too. With windows media, the mouse moves, but the screen is black. I can ctl alt del and get to click task manager, but it wount come up, the icon shows in the task bar, but teh window wont show. really wierd. Zeno~SPARTA~
Try watching the film with windows media 11. Explore teh dvd go into video_ts folder, look for video-ts.ifo and right click, then open with windows media. This will take you to the menu. you have to eliminate the following culprits Dodgy dvd dodgy dvd drive dodgy cyberlink so try another dvd then try using windows media11 then try another dvd drive. you will find the culprit
NoScream~SPARTA~
I agree with Zeno, you eliminate one thing at a time, the most easiest is change the disc in the drive, then the drive then cyberlink software for another software player. Athlon64~SPARTA~
A friend of mine had that problem some time ago and it turned out to be his hard drive and it failed not long after that. You never know. he replaced it and no more problem.

DrNo~SPARTA~
Ill take it in and let my computer buds have a go at it. Im tired of chasing this issue. The comp sure is killer when it all works right, but so far vista is a bit of an education.
