Game won't launch. Steam repeats "Performing first time setup..." procedure. Manually download and install the latest DirectX End-User Runtime. Why am I "unnamed soldier"? How do I get a normal name? This means your Steam name is 3 characters or less, which is currently unsupported by Black Ops (bug?). Simply increase the length of your Steam name. I have my clan tag set on Steam, but the brackets are removed in game. Remove your clan tag from your Steam name. Then in config_mp.cfg (Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players) alter seta clanName "clantag" to match your clan tag - it will put it in square brackets. A patch was released last night. Reports are coming in that backing up and deleting your config_mp file and restarting will do the trick after you have patched.

I am having a lot of fun with this game. Dedicated servers! Saw people getting bumped all night for dolphin diving, TK'ing, etc. I momentarily tried out the zombie mode and it seems like a mode I'll have to give more time. If you like run n' gunners its a must. If you like ARMA and nothing else, don't bother.

Who can I expect to look for after tomorrow playing BlackOps?

In all seriousness Viper, I lived in Western NY for 20 years of my life. In case you don't know about Western NY, we get lake effect snow (18-24" over night!). Every year around Halloween, everyone changes their tires over to their snow tires with the studs. In my experience, besides the louder noise of the studs hitting the pavement, I did not notice any difference in performance nor any major wear of the studs after using them 5 years straight. In the snow and ice they perform remarkably. Other food for thought. The sock is going to wear much more quickly. When I saw people using them it was from their "snow kit" in their car and used them once or twice for emergencies when the roads were blown over or when ice rain hit. Also, idk if anyone ski's, but many of the slopes around here won't allow anything but chains for when things get tough.

Zeno, I can tell you I haven't been able to make a Tac Dom in months because I work until 5 Central Time and tacdom is always over by the time i get home and get to the computer.

I currently play SC2 a bunch and while there are no "unlocks" for MP that are linked to SP progression, there are certainly achievements, vanity unlocks, etc. The future of gaming is that everything is going to be online and linked to a profile somehow. Blizzard makes it very clear in there EULA that they do not like cheaters or hackers in any portion of their games. This may be a down side for some people, but GD there games are just about bug free and heavily supported. GG Blizzard. There's a reason they are getting billions a month off their games.

If i cut a corner, its fine...I should have my lap invalidated. I just don't see the point in invalidating my next lap while getting back on to the track. I had like 6 laps in a row where i spun out into the grass and it would not only make my current lap void, but the next as well. Pointless in time trials and extremely frustrating when I'm only racing myself.

I am pulling myself out of this competition for fear of breaking my controller. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to invalid the next lap in time trials should be stoned in public.
