We are looking to replace our CRT TV with a new up to date super duper gizmotron. Looking in the 40-50" screen size. Questions: HD ready? HD Compatable? 1080P? LCD? Plasma? Brand? Modle of brand? So many questions now I could use some advice. Thanks All.

Go with a front projection set up bro.

Read this before buying a regular LCD or Plasma TV. It may not be practical for you, but its an option and you can get a nice setup for the same price as a nice LCD/Plasma TV. But with 4 times the viewing area.

I just purchased a 32" Samsung LCD for the playroom (TV for kids and second for my rig and the sons console plugs into it) excellent brand but for a bigger screen I would buy there plasma or panasonics. IMO panasonic make the best 50" plasma out there. 1080p is not broadcast in the uk yet (don't know about North America) and unless you intend to buy a HD or Blue Ray player and a lot of films is there any point. To save yourself agro choose spec first then size then look at reviews.

Have fun lookin.

I would stay with the Panasonic brand for Plasma, after my research that is what I went with but I also went to the store and watched them. The picture quality is what you like, everyone likes different shades that are pleasing (shit that sounded gay). Anyway, check out the link and read up and go to the store and grill the dipshit selling you the TV.

I'm no expert but I'll tell my experience.

We got a 42" Philips plasma 1080p as a wedding gift from her family. Beautiful picture but the sound is unusable. It's so distorted you have to run external sound. Plus it's suffering a little bit from burn in at the boundary between normal and wide screen.

If I were to get another 42" flat panel I'd go with an LCD. My brother inlaw has a Vizio 42" LCD and it's awesome. Good price too.

I have no experience with front or rear projection TVs but some of the rear projection DLP TVs are amazing.
