NoScream~SPARTA~
Fantasy Bicycle Cobol and I like cycling, (pedal cycles not motorbike ones, but we both have motorcycles too). This thread is to show how much a fantasy cycle would cost to build from top parts. Are you ready to be stunned...... USD is approx 2x GBP £, all my listed prices are GBP so just 2x for USD. I'm building a Mountain Bike (MTB) First up is my fantasy frame http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=21504 £3199.99 Then I need front forks http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=4214 £1999.99 I was going to go for these but there out of stock ! 250mm Ti Spring - IS Mount £2249.99 Next I need wheels (1 set with no tyres) http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22677 £274.99 I need the drive train (gears) rear http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22763 £129.99 front http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=15191 £44.99 front crank (oggs) http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=11494 £399.99 rear gears http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=8332 £34.99 shifters http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=21031 £129.99 Chain http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=5157 £219.99 Handle bars http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=19573 £329.99 Headset, handle bar to fork bearing http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=14505 £199.99 Seat post & seat http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=8476 £84.99 saddle http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=23254 £359.99 Brakes disc rotors http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=16364 £80.00 x2 £160 calipers & levers (set) http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Kits.aspx?ModelID=25539 £359.99 Pedals - Clipless MTB http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=13048 £269.99 Of course this would not be the best all round MTB but it's the most expensive I can make, and did not inc. extras like handle bar grips, bike computer, lights, bash guard or crud guards.... GRAND TL: £8198.86 or $16000, notice how everything in the uk ends in .99 ! May be you want to make a fantasy computer or hifi..... best of luck p.s. did I say, that the supplier quotes were with discounts from 0% - 80% ! usthomsen~SPARTA~
When i rode mountainbike (x-country) my bike was around 3500£ so that would only be enough for the downhill frame and a saddle. The downhill frames are very heavy and are only for downhill. Why not go for a full suspension x-country frame. By the way. Why are u buying a Shimano shifter while the rest is Sram? I am not sure it will match
custard~SPARTA~
My godson was into putting together his own bike he even made bits out of Duron (I think thats the what it's called) it needed to be well made because of the abuse it took when he was using it. We cycle as a family and one day (Wife n 2 kids n me) in winter going down a track I said to the boy go through that puddle it's not deep, he wouldn't so I did. Yep it was 2 feet deep and I got soaked the wife peed herself laughing.
NoScream~SPARTA~
Thompson I'm not buying anything, it's make believe. If I was making a bike for myself, I'd buy diffrent components, it's just to see how ridiculous the top end stuff is. ;)
