So my friend,

as you know I m gonna get my beefy SGS 2 soon :) I was just reading about this:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/31/kanexs-mhl-hdmi-adapter-brings-your-smartphone-content-to-an-hd/

I was thinking it was possible to connect a mini HDMI to the phone to get the connection to a TV, but it looks like being MHL needs the dongle in between.

Is that mandatory? any other way to bypass an extra accessory ?

Thx

The Lead

MHL

There is no other way than to buy a MHL lead, pity the end is not abit smaller as you cloud of put it on your keyring like I did for my USB HOST CABLE.

The plug on the SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 is not a Micro HDMI, it's a MICRO USB (MHL capable)

Only the HTC EVO 3D, HTC Flyer, HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2 II i9100 can use the so called MHL lead to output HD VIDEO via the adaptor cable and then a HDMI lead to a TV. It supports 1080p & it's worth it for the flexibility.

The lead is about $20 and is basically a micro usb to HDMI.

I have the micro usb to Female USB for HOST mode. Both leads are a big plus, but I would recommend the USB HOST CABLE (about $5 on ebay)

What is possible with MHL & WHO is onboard.

The MHL™ Consortium is comprised of Nokia Corporation; Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.; Silicon Image, Inc.; Sony Corporation; and Toshiba Corporation. MHL specification version 1.0 is an HD video and digital audio interface for connecting mobile phones and portable devices to HDTVs and other home entertainment products. It utilizes established connectors and features a single cable with a 5-pin interface, supports 1080p HD video and digital audio, and simultaneously provides power to the mobile device. It also enables the TV remote to control the mobile phone and access its contents.

If you get one, I hope you start recommending apps.

I found Android market very concise & rich in apps.

My previous phone was a 9800 Blackberry bold. Their App market is a fraction (1/10th).

'TuneIn Radio' is a great app & the PRO version is worth the $1, Sleep timer, alarm, etc.

'Smart Measure' is very clever and can measure distance using your camera & phone angle it is limited like a real tape measure.

'Audalyzer' is free and measures sound levels, great app, inc. peak levels.

'Panecal Scientific' is a great free scientific calculator.

'Resize lite' a free photo/ picture resize, removing the annoyance of emailing photos @ over 3000 x 2000 px 6Mb

'Allrecipies' is free but pro is better, can't decide on food, let it help, it's very slick

'MX Video player' Is my favourite video player, pro is great.

'AroundMe' everything you need to find, hospitals, restaurants, cinemas, drinking houses.

The list is endless, I have 160+ apps on mine and it's buzzing (smoking hot for you old timers), I recommend you get a memory card (Micro SD) of around 32GB, you will see why when you can copy MOVIES & MUSIC to it & a USB thumb drive/stick that is low power type like SANDISK Blade series, I have 48GB of memory on PHONE & 2x 32GB on thumb drives/sticks on my keyring with the adaptor cable. I carry 30+ movies HD, 8,000 MP3's, 3000+ pictures, 200+ word docs, 4GB work related PDF files, and still have oodles of space.

Movies (HD) take around 550-800MB depending on the frame. The OLED screen is 4.3" 480 x 800 pixels but remember this phone can output to a monitor/ TV with HDMI @ 1080p.

Have fun.

I am quite excited thinking how many good apps there are around.

I had a dual boot on my TP 2 for a while WinMo 6.5 + Android. Of course was a beta project working at about 80%.

I played around with a few apps but due to the hardware limit i didn t test too many.

I am pretty sure it will be quite interesting playing around with useful stuff :)

I've had a few phones and some that claim to be more than a phone like multi media, mobile internet, multi functional but this is truly one that can not only preform all those things but do it with ease, ease being the dual core 1.2Ghz CPU, Nvidia Tacra graphics, 1 GB of OS RAM & 16 Gb of standard storage RAM. It does motor through tasks, I had over 60 tasks open when I usaed App killer to stop them and the phone still functioned smoothly.

Like I've said before, the only downside is the Battery as using the apps is like being on the phone itself (talking) and the talk time is around 9Hours, so you will kill the battery when you realize the phone can do alot.

Key is a spare battery & charger or an extended batter case, I got one coming & will review it soon.
