Batwing~SPARTA~
What a beautiful aircraft the Tomcat has always been ! I can t believe it has been retired well, true, the F18 is an amazing airplane too, but the Grumman F14 is one of the most beatiful and fascinating piece of history ! Durka-Durka~SPARTA~
These are clips from the documentary "Speed and Angels." I'm not sure if that includes footage from Top Gun, or that they just used the same plane/locations. For those of you who have Hulu, you can watch it here. I had the privelage to get to see the last Tomcat that flew on a trip to D.C. It is in the Udvar Hazy Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. They said the one on display was the last one to fly, and they flew it there. What a beautiful plane. The F-18 is more useful, and overall a better aircraft, but something about the design of the F-14 just makes me go "wow." They had all sorts of aircraft at that museum, even an F-35, but what caught my eye was the Tomcat.
