  1. I like the way you've laid that out Durka, and using text commands was something I hadn't considered but could see working quite well. If we are going to give this a go, I'll volunteer to do it on the next outing, if no one else wants to.
  2. Something else to think about, someone should be designated to sort out the people coming into the server, a Second in command if you like, Team assignment, weapons load out, where and how to meet up with the main squad etc. This should take some of the presure of the commander, but would have to be sorted out quite early on with the commander. Perhaps SPARTA members should, by default, go as the initial squad leaders when there's enough people on the server.
  3. None needed. I was sitting eating all the rations I agree with you Luggage, there was too much chatter for a commander to work with, and not enough for squads. I still finding myself using TS to speak to the commander and Direct Comms ingame, problem is people tend to respond on TS BTW I've found a Teamspeak Overlay variant I use to tell who's using the TS Channel http://www.playclaw.com It's not down to anyone individual, but down to the command structure we find our selves in at the time. When I was sitting back at the ammo crate munching my way through my third packet of beef stew and dumplings, I had a look at the number of players which Luggage was commanding, (I think it was 8 or 9) and wondered why it hadn't been split into to 4 man teams. On the next town there was two teams, but it consisted of two on Anti Air and the rest on assault, by the third town we were getting there with the addition of an advance team, and recon team. Comms on on channel contributes to the "micro managment" issue, but at the end of the day it relies on people stepping up and taking on the role of squad leader, allowing the Mission Commander to concentrate on where they are sending each squad. Which Durka did rallying everyone at the church, then moving through the town. It's still early days remember, it's been what three weeks of Tactical Domination to get this stage, which all things considered is good IMHO. I still would advocate following the Shack Tac guide to squads. Anyway back to my ratpack ... where's the chocolate pudding ....
  4. This one automatically recognises when you make a new mod folder in the ArmA2 directory, so you don't have to add anything to it. P.S, got the server browser working, you may need to run it as an administrator the first time in Vista, after that, it's all good.
  5. I was speaking to a few people this morning about this, here is the link http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6649 I can't get the server browser to work for some reason (works in V1.00) It's a handy way to launch/disable mods and use the other command line settings without having to have different ArmA 2 icons for every eventuallity.
  6. Tell them to sort it or they'll loose 100% of your business. I phoned them cause new customers were getting a better deal that I had, and I told them that I could get a similar deal from BT, do they want me to pay the same as new customers, or nothing. Funnily enough they gave me the same deal. It's always worth arguing, particularly in the current economic climate. As for the "peak time traffic management" I'd tell them to stick it. I pay for 10 Mb I expect 10 Mb. If you're taking 75% of the band width between 4 and 9 I want a 75% discount. I aint paying for someone else using the internet, I'm paying so I can use it. If you buy a car, would you accept it if the dealer only let you use 1 wheel during the rush hour. They should be wearing masks the robbing barstewards.
  7. Haven't you heard, we're not using choppers anymore. We run to the objective, then we exfil with magic disappearing hatchbacks Custard did try and match Cy's achievement last night but came up short by one
  8. Cheers, I'll give it a go later
  9. Can some explain to me how the backpack works in Domination. Is it just the weapons you can put in there? I couldn't seem to get any ammo in to it. Guess I was too used to the ACE packs.
  10. I've been reading with my interest the issues that you guys are having with using TS for tactical play with ArmA, and I've had a thought. Bear with me here, I don't have that many anymore, and the ones I do are usually suspect. Anyway, there are as I see it, two requirements for communicating tactically. 1. To be able to use a command channel 2. To be able to a squad channel The first one is quite easy, you use TS. Tried and trusted, familar and faultless (?). The second one is a bit of a problem when you're using TS to try and do 1 & 2. Everyone will have experienced the situation, where the "commanders" need to talk to squad commanders, and squad members need to talk to other squad members for conact reports, directions, etc etc. Now the commanders aren't really interested in who needs a mag in Squad A, or that Squad B are moving position, but their formation needs tightening up. "Squad channels" are essentially used to replicate the ability to talk face to face with some one in your team or nearby. Solution? We'll maybe not a solution, but a suggestion anyway. A few times on the Domination server, I have used the in game Voice over Net comms in Direct Communication mode. This allowed me to speak to players who were beside me, when the TS channel was busy. Granted they would hear the TS chat AND me, but what I wasn't doing was transmitting over TS at the same time as someone else. What I did I had seperate key binds for TS and VoN comms. When I wanted to speak to someone nearby, I used VoN, when I wanted to talk to Zeno or someone farther away, then I used TS. The principle could be used on the VoN comms for Direct Comms, Group Channel and vehicle Channel. Keybinds could be used to mute TS if required (I'm not sure if you can do it with VON) then I would only hear my Group/Vehicle/Buddy (Using Direct Comms), and not tie up TS for the commanders. The commanders would hear all the TS comms, and the Squad etc comms, so they might have to balance their comms. 2ICs or Commanders promoted in the field (i.e. the first commander is dead) just un-mute TS and they have both. Anyway, just a thought. Apologies for sticking my noise in where Eejits* fear to tread.
  11. US Forces prepare to launch a raid at McDonalds.
  12. How about a DNR (Do not resuscitate) option when people decide to end it all and kill themselves so the can revive at the base or the MHQ rather than wait for help. I inadvertently revived someone a couple of days a go who stated, in a quite positive manner that he was going to tk the next a**hole who revived him. There's just no pleasing some people. It would also help when you get across the red zone only to see that the person who you were going to revive has decided to respawn and not tell anyone Personaly, I'd like to see more reliance on movement like Medic said, however realistically most people will want the more casual gamestyle that is available.
  13. Read the briefing Custard, your preparing the way for the Air Assault, not participating in it. Looks good Durka
  14. Who are these Spartans you speak of
  15. Yea, he worked really hard, could have worked harder tho as I had to give him a couple of mags, which meant he was spending more time shooting that healing
  16. Have you (as a group) tried using a separate channel for the commanders. The things is using channel commander the commander is going to be hearing both the command talk and the unit chatter at the same time I understand that the squad chatter could be reduced, but if the squad is engaging I don't think it's fair on them or the squad leader for them to stop talking because channel commander is being used. If there was a Global text message to Squad leaders to go to the command channel, then they would just need to hole up some where and change channel on TS, then switch back when the command stuff was finished. This way the squad can still use comms if they are engagin, or are engaged. But I remember comms being a problem even back when we were playing GR1 Dai. Just my 2 pence.
  17. Doh, should have used the search first.
  18. Shamelessly stolen from another site i visit. To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last. Date: 2009-05-27, 1:43 a.m. E.S.T. I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message. First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wear ing the jacket for a reason. My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 A CP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head .. Isn't it?! I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again]. After I called your mother, or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful! I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!] I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... After I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car. Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. M a Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target. The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.). In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... But I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day! Thoughtfully yours, Alex
  19. Always knew you had a problem with wind
  20. Thanks for the advice guys. Main thing is that it has made me pause for thought a little bit. I was going to go and get this today and have it running over the weekend. I think that would, on the whole been short term gain, long term pain. I'll give it some more, and considered deliberation. Thank you all for your time.
  21. Right I need some advice. I've a P4 2.8 PC with a AGP board and graphics card. Question is this. Is this something which would allow me to run stuff like ArmA2, and is it a good deal? I've a spare case so plan would be to put it in that and add a SATA drive. Worth a punt?
  22. Congratulations. Welcome to lifes biggest adventure.
  23. This has been a feature since OFP. Very cool. IIRC there was a mission where you were out in the forest, no weapon compass etc and had to navigate across the map. The attention to detail, even back then was immense.
