This references a law in the UK. I do not believe that the U.S. has a similar law, but it may. Although, I doubt it.

Hmm.. I guess they were a bit pissed, but they had to abide....

 

The Distance Sell Regulation it is present on many Countries at least in Europe. It was introduced with the growing business for TV sales at that time.

It however has never been amended or modified and therefore it may apply to any sort of Distant Sale either electronic or physical.

 

There is a huge chance a similar law is active in US. US is a country were Customer Satisfaction is #1 and they have tons of little regulations, I would be surprised if such a simple Customer Protection related to Distant Sales would not be applicable.

 

In general a Contract between 2 parties overrules other regulations, however by any means a contract can be "Against the Law" otherwise it can be considered at Fault and rescinded anyway, therefore the Law will apply in both cases.

 

It just can be quite an hassle to have your rights defended, especially when it comes to minimal purchases. In the real world, what are you gonna do? do you wanna open a Law suite costing hunderds of dollars to gain your right for a refund of 5 bucks?

 

You have been lucky they found easier refunding you rather ignoring you.
