  1. Ok, I normally build my own PC but maybe I'm lazy, and wanted something quick, so I decided to find a prebuilt. I was looking around for one that has some of the main items I wanted - i7-920, GTS 260, and DD3 RAM.

I came across the HP E9290F at Frys and picked it up today.

HP e9290F for specs. Not too bad for $1200. The GTS 260 also has 1.8gig of RAM, which I can't find anywhere else. Now going through all these Windows 7 tweaks tos ee what I can do to get this thing humming.

whow that dollar dropped in value... or is it me...?

geforce 260 humm well its almost best you can expect from a complete rig HP well its better than Dell, or IBM but nevertheless complete rigs always contain outdated components. If I read things right I'd rather ahve a 890 mb 275 GTS than a 1,8 gig 260 with shut down stuff... maybe it's tweakable to re-gain its functionality? dunno, but 1200$ I wish I had that money, would do a bit more I guess...

On the other hand I'm stuck with the old core 2 duo line and ddr2 memory on my motherboard.....

but hey I only spent 750? oops..... hope my wife doesn't read this.....lol

  2. I am happy with windows 7, exept for one major dislike.... It won't accept a raid 0-stripe from my 2 750 gig samsung spinpoints F1.... The driver's won't be recognised, and creating a stripe afterwards.... don't think that'll work.

Yes I know there is some risky workaround with a spare hdd, creating a setup and migrating it to the raid disks.... but I'm noob enough not to dare....

  3. jeez panic so neat and tidy it looks like a catalog picture.

I'll have tose speakers plz....lol oh no wait the monitor would be handier....

I took some pics this weekend, I'll see if I dare post them tonite :D

got 2 machines on my desk at the mo

    1 my old rig P965 core 2 duo 6300 2x 250 gig hdd, 2 gig ddr2 667, geforce 8800 GTS 320mb OC and my good ol 17"illiama monitor

2 my new (almost all ne components) gygabite X48 DS4 core 2 duo 8400 4 gig ddr 800, geforce 275 GTS, soundblaster x-fi music (will replace it with an auzentech one if I get the chance) cooler master gladiator 600 and the ususal gear

Maybe I'll sell of my oldest 2 rigs 1 for free (AMD athlon 1600 1 gig ddr and rest unknown, some old ATI card 32 gig hdd?)

and my other rig the AMD 3800 x2 with 160 gig geforce 7600 GT silent 2 gig ddr 5300 (4x512) in a micro atx setup. I was planning to make this rig in a htc case (media thingy) but the cases still are too expensive and I do not have room in the cabinet were my audio is..../my audio is so good, I won't connect it to an old pc.... lol

  4. Behold prepare for the wind, the dust, the blood sweat and tears and foremost for the utter laughter after we try, well off course what you expect, we have to learn these maps, and Sparta off course have had a training session, and erhhm well you know my rig improved but I still lack skillz ah well nevermind, I hope to be there to see the slaughter...lol

  5. What is the world coming to.

It is clear there has been a paradigm shift in online gaming to the detriment of the community.

We can only hope that the other games we are waiting for are not similarly affected, but we should expect the worst.

I wonder if the community as a whole has the resources to create a game and go its own way (probably fantasizing)

Try www.blackfootstudios.com they are trying to build a GR worthy game but cannot find a publisher that wants to invest. All it takes are say 10.000 game enthusiasts to pay 30$ and you'll see.....

Maybe we should ask Jstonedecker to advertise a bit around this hype and see if people are willing to fund his game....

the economic crysis has seen millions of people lose more than 30$ so why not....

  6. Okay, card arrived and installed, relatively easy. Used the update option to download the latest catalyst drivers (09.9).

    My setup is an E6320 C2D overclocked to 2.589, 4gig PC8500 and the HD4870 @ 1024mb. My previous card was an 8800GTS 320mb OC.

With the 8800 I was seeing average 20 - 25fps and experienced some lag. With the 4870 the graphics are much smoother but according to fraps, I'm still averageing only mid 20's. Was hopefully expecting a bigger number, what are other people seeing and does anyone have a similar setup but getting better fps?

My monitor is set at 1440 x 900 60 mhz refresh and most of my ingame settings are low or normal.

Will probably try COD4 & WAW tomorrow to see if they show improvements from the 8800.

I would advice you to have a look at the PSU My 275 GTX didn't show much improvement on arma untill I found out the bus-speed and memory speeds were reduced due to to little power in my PSU (380 watts instead of 550) Now I have 700 watts it runs like a baby.... (combined with an x48 mobo and a fresh vista 64 bit install....) I'll see you on friday guys, can't wait..... (but my wife makes me to...lol)

  7. I bought Vista with the upgrade form OEM because prices will go up once windows 7 hits the shelve. Shops won't sell oem versions for some time..... and together with my 275 GTX I should do a lot better, maybe get my 4th gig of ram by christmas....

oh and by the way I get the full windows 7 version instead of only the upgrade if I'm not mistaken.... :D
