  1. Salvage is still bugged out. I tried to unload an M119, then canceled placement. When I go back to the salvage truck to unload a 2nd time, it shows no statics in available inventory list. Typically, if there was none, it would just pop a message that there are no statics available. So then I pressed the up arrow thinking I might somehow select the item if it was hidden and clicked unload, and it crashes Arma 2 completely.. probably a null pointer or memory allocation error.

  2. Also - I spoke with MH6 last night - see if you can grab a copy of the server log (RPT file) and get it to him. It may show map mission errors fromt he scripts that he can help to isolate/fix. Since you reset this recently it may be small enough to transport.

  3. I jumped on last night and played for a bit - it seemed a bit more smooth. I personally was running into some PC issues (I think) where some things like buildings and vehicles were not appearing for me as much as I'd like.

I did jump on as admin and did the #monitor, and it appears that we averaged @ 650 meg for game memory size, and consistent outbound network traffic at 1meg, inbound traffic at 300k.

Try to tweak the configs as such:

    arma.cfg

MaxSizeNonguaranteed =128; // (May help with updates on unit moves)

    server1.cfg

    vonCodecQuality=5;

  4. Nice video. My only complaint is the slowmo. It seems that damn near every ArmA2/ArmA1 video I've ever seen is in slowmo. Sure, it's good for select scenes, but people have been overusing it to the point where I cringe when I see it now.

Other than that though, good stuff. :thumbsup_anim:

    Agreed on all points.

Keep em coming guys, very good work.

  5. I Have dual monitors. The right window has Teamspeak up so I can see who is speaking in the channel and who is in the other channels. That's why you will find me quickly answering the questions of "is so-and-so on Teamspeak?". And it sound like Teamspeak overlay won't be supported for Vista or Windows 7.. Too bad.

  6. We had a terrible time tonight with Teamspeak communication and it brought much frustration to Durka and the rest of us when trying to organize and command. So be advised of a few simple tips on TS etiquette:

    1) Silence is Golden - we all get frustrated when shot, or when someone steps into our line of fire, but if you have nothing to actually say that's pertinent to the moment, please keep comms quiet, especially when we are in midst of an assault.

    2) DO NOT USE VOICE ACTIVATED CHAT. Bind a key, chat when needed. We don't want to talk to your mom or wife or kids, and if that football game in the background was that damn exciting to share I'd be at your house watching it with you drinking your beer and not on TS in the first place.

    3) Use the separate comm channels if you can. If you are doing side mission with a few others, jump to that channel or ask someone to move you to it. If you and a buddy are running around in a tank halfway across the map from everyone else, jump into the vehicle channel.

    4) Let commanders have the comms. We rely on our regulars to help keep all the new players up to date on server rules and etiquette. We appreciate it and encourage people to help each other as much as possible. But if someone is trying to command, let them have the comms and take the discussion to a side channel in Teamspeak or utilize the chat system for quick question/answers.

    5) Brevity - Keep it short and sweet. "Less is more".

  7. One of the regulars (think is was Eggar) mentioned something last night which was a good idea and might be doable - but update the game map background info with the server rules that way they can be referenced immediately upon someone opening their map up.

We can obviously do this in MH6's edition if it is exclusive for our server. Could even have the log in state some of the rules too.

  8. The towns are being pulverised by arty to such an extent that the infantry only do cleanup, certainly if go to veteran arty will need to be coordinated with spotters. I am not a fan of reducing weaponry as it is one of the characteristics of Domination and we are not always 30 players.

I will search for a devious way to make the game tougher.

Spawn more counterattacks on things that attack towns from outside the town redzone; add things outside the redzone that makes insertion / attack harder.

    • Ie, if someone has a farp set up with an artillery and they are sending in shells, have a Mi-8 drop off a few dozen infantry on them, or have a random vehicle wander the FARP's direction.
    • Give the OPFOR mobile mortar teams outside redzone's on mountain tops
    • OPFOR roadblocks
    • OPFOR sniper teams on high altitude advantage points focused on areas used by our insertions.
  9. 1. Although it is more tactical I think with all these new ppl it might be better to keep running with the green diamonds showing so you know where your team is at. In the future when 99% know the score then pull back the help - but I think diamonds are an aid without being too novice.

I understand your concern about being able to see where your team is, but I think that concern can be covered by keeping the squads to a manageable size and giving individuals set responsibilities prior to attack. This can be done in a way to keep Veteran on and effective for Tactical.

For Bravo last night, a team of 5-6 was quite manageable to keep visual contact on your squad mates. Veteran mode on really makes you think twice about who your targets are, where are you heading, etc. It requires more planning/communication. I believe one issue is when Alpha squad becomes the 'catch all' where everyone besides Bravo goes. As people join the server, it dynamically grows making it an amorphous blob which is hard to manage. Alpha may become more manageable in bit-size chunks like Bravo by identifying individual responsibilities via subteams that have specific purposes. Examples...

    1. Scout/Sniper team providing intel via global channel markers on map for both Alpha and Bravo; Once alpha engages, they take out soft targets to assist bravo insertion and continue to pull city away from Bravo.
    2. Mortar team providing smoke / AOE between teams.
    3. Rest of Alpha broke into Alpha 1 + Alpha 2 squads to provide left / right wing control of the attack

You could keep everyone in Alpha still in the same audio channel, but this gives specific jobs for the members, hence making control easier based on responsibilities.

  10. Haven't you heard, we're not using choppers anymore. We run to the objective, then we exfil with magic disappearing hatchbacks :P

Custard did try and match Cy's achievement last night but came up short by one

Zeno and I need to redo our magic hatchback race. I feel my win was stolen by his invisible car ray gun.

  11. Given what the UAV can do for the team, maybe limit it's use to Squad/Team Leaders?

Yeah, Team Lead, that's a great pick. Actually makes that position more interesting and definitely lines us up well for tactical nights that way the team lead can.. god forbid.. lead. :P

  12. On an unrelated note, how would ya'll feel about a hand-launched UAV? Only a few soldiers could carry one, and it isn't armed. You would basically have a "Launch UAV" option, where it would then spawn the UAV over your head, already in flight. The UAV would be the Pchela-1T...a Russian UAV, I know, but the MQ-9 is waaaay too big. The Pchela is no higher than your knee.

I like it alot and it could really help with tactical setup to scout ahead. But for game balance purposes, I'd say that this object should be limited. Either:

    1. Spawnable only from a FARP or MHQ .. so that would make only 4 max in existence at any one time.
    2. Make it an asset of a particular class so only a few players online can use it much like the mortar/MG Nest guys.
    3. Have it available in the gear box but have it take your entire inventory. (It would be quite a bit to carry)
  13. BTW - I think you can pick up a destroyed M119 with a Salvage truck, just like you can pick up destroyed D-30's. With the original Salvage truck code, you could pick them up and then deploy a new copy which was undamaged.
