Hunter~SPARTA~
Been doing some research, attempting to find something to fit my needs. Yet, so far, I haven't found anything that fills the niche I'm looking for. Hoping you all could provide me a solution or some guidance. What I'm looking for is a way to steam music and movies from a hard drive in my home to the internet. To be more specific, I want to access my media while I am at work. At work I have very limited privileges as far as what software is installed and what not, so the simpler the solution the better. I have managed to work out a crude solution using VLC as a streaming source on my PC, but its a bit flaky. I don't care what the solution is. I've been looking at NAS, assuming it would provide what I'm looking for, but just haven't found one that fits my needs. However, if I can find a piece of software to run on my PC that will accomplish my goal, just as well. - JHunter

Batwing~SPARTA~
I have the perfect solution for u and is totally free ! Use ORB http://corp.orb.com/ I use this since 3 years now and is very good. Some small issues here and there, but on a scale 1 -> 10 it get s a rich 8.5 U can access music, movies and TV also (if your PC has a TV card). Of course your ORB Server has to be on all the time... Interesting you can also access your ORB server on your Network (ofcourse) meaning if you have a TV tuner on it and you have a nice laptop or a nice big screen in your bedroom, you will watch TV in your bedroom without having an extra BOX or TV.. or you can watch TV anywhere in the house also if you don t have an antenna outlet in that specific room Infinite possibilities.... If you need help on how config it, just ask. I would suggest you to download the version 2.50+ It goes only on your server, then you will access it using any browser (of course you will create your free secure account)
Hunter~SPARTA~
I have used Orb before, but for a different purpose. Re-installed it, and I was able to get to my stuff at work, however I cannot get the video stream to come through via "https" instead of "http". So long as its coming through "http", my work proxy will block the stream and this will not work. I couldn't figure out how to change it to "https"... any ideas? - JHunter
Batwing~SPARTA~
I don t think you can change ORB in https at all. they way it works is not a direct stream to your machine, instead you go thru their servers bridging your machine. that s why you login to their server and not straight to your machine. Therefore, is an ORB restriction, they do not use https connctions. I know Medic has been able to connect to filtered sites using this http://www.vtunnel.com/ which is a direct proxy. You can try that and see if it is working to bypass your internet security at your work. I have no experience with it.
Hunter~SPARTA~
I had to use a proxy to go to mycast.orb.com, but the stream file does not run through the proxy. Which is the problem.
Batwing~SPARTA~
Thru the proxy possibly you can watch Flash videos. If that is true, get into the ORB settings (on the webpage) and switch the player from Windows media to Flash player and you might have a solution there. Hunter~SPARTA~
That may just work. I'll give it a go when I go back to work this weekend and let you know. Thanks for the help, Batwing. - JHunter
Hunter~SPARTA~
Unfortunately this solution did not work either. I'm not entirely sure what exactly the issue is, but the video just does not start. Using the Flash player works fine on non-work computers... just does not work where I need it to. Any other solutions? - JHunter
