I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Usually games that get released on time are full of bugs. Games that get pushed back again and again are still filled with bugs but are at least playable. What does this say about games that are released early???

What im thinking the devs where thinking....

Dev 1. Dude im sick and tired of making this scenery look even better and making performance fixes.

Dev 2. Ya dude this sucks balls. Lets just tell the higher ups we are done.

Dev 1. Hell ya lets start our vacation early since you know everyone is going to be crying about bugs when its released. Lets get some R&R now.

Dev 2. LETS DO IT!!!!!!!

And the consumer becomes the beta tester.......

And the consumer becomes the beta tester.......

Hehehahe.. hey what's that ?

Well, You can look at it in a different way.. Say, "you are spending your 60 bucks to have the provilege to have the Beta Version, later on you will get the Retail for free!!" What a deal, uh ?

I saw that movie already, but I didn t go to the theater, I waited for the pirate edition on Demonoid, because that s what they deserve with that crap... deserve to be pirated... then possibly I will buy the "Original" when it will be released (and fixed) :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Ok, for better or worse (Cliffs of Dover) I have pre purchased Brink.

So I was thinking, who else was going to give this a go, and if so are we looking to play as a squad?

My reason for asking is that if we were thinking of playing as a squad, what class are you thinking of starting off with? This game seems like it will be VERY squad orientated and as such a well balanced team will fare much better than one with all Soldier class and no heavies, Medics, etc.

I personally would happily specialise in whichever class is needed and not heavily used.

Discuss :allgood:

Dai - I have THOUGHT about picking it up because as usual the developers make the trailers look sooooooo good, but I am so hesitant because a game engine can be spot on but if the network/multi-player element is broken there goes another $50 US dollars (12 Euro MSNWINK.GIF) out the window.

I planned to wait and see if the online play was functional before diving in. Based on the trailers I've seen, it appears that they have done a fantastic job with the classes and the multiple side missions that in the end do nothing but help the main mission. The also appears to be a fair amount of weapons and customization to each to keep the classes fresh and viable.

The releases in two days on STEAM so i look forward to some feedback on the game play and the class progression if any.

Especially after Homefront, which I also bought because I am a fan of post-apocalyptic games, I think I am with Haj on this one. I am really tired of wasting money on crappy games that fizzle out in a matter of weeks or even worse, days.

I do like the way the game looks all around but other games have looked awesome and then failed to deliver on a major part of the game that make it unworthy of a community of our caliber, let alone a smaller group.

I am very much looking forward to hearing what Dai-San and the rest you guys think.

I might buy it.. But I pre-ordered Battlefield 3 anyway.. I know it will take a while to BF 3 to be for sale, but i hope that takes better priority than Brink on our way to think "multiplayer".

Going back on topic, about Brink, it is a such new game i would like to see what s going on first. Too much buzz has been done about it.

All games on their own trailers look amazing but especially when they wanna be so "amazing and innovative" i honestly want to see if they achieved their "dream", because otherwise Brink is gonna be another "Wanna be" parked on the shelf.. and honestly i can think something better to do with 50 bucks..

With that said, on the other hand, if a serious faction of Spartans will start actively playing it (I mean actively, not the infatuation of the first 10 minutes) I am very ready to buy it to be part of an Online squad.

I like the look of this, a lot although the thought of "self buffing" is a tad worrying...... :poster_oops:

As has been said though (a big thanks to our intrepid pioneers), I'll wait for some real world experience and reviews first.

I am also of the 'wait-and-see' attitude. There's nothing about this game that jumps out at me and says 'BUY ME!', but if it gets great reviews and recommendation from friends, I will be willing to jump in. I'm finally letting older MP games fade out; CS:S and BC2 were great fun, but I think I've done all I can with those games, and I will only load them to play if invited by friends. TF2 I love still, but I usually only play for a weekend, then go up to a month without loading it up. Black Ops I have retired for good.

In the meantime, I plan on getting into the new Section 8, and I hope I can get some co-op time in with TQ: Immortal Throne. Arma is always an option. But I think this leaves room in my gaming schedule for a new MP shooter, and Brink might fit the bill if it's good.

Yes, I know the feeling, needing something to complement ARMA. Having re-visited GRAW with Dai, I know it's not that, bloody frustrating waste of 5 hours!

Brink is a bit "bunny-hippy" looking but as that's more to do with the character movement I can probably forgive it. I'll still be crappy at it but who cares!

I stopped at Best Buy for some printer ink today and noticed that Brink was on the half-of-the-part-of-the-small-section-of-a-shelf that is their PC Games Section. It was hidden behind the Bad Company 2 copies, and I only noticed it because the retail box is a very bright blue color. Of course, I would have waited until I got home to purchase it from Steam, but I decided to look for reviews first, and am now glad that I did. I've read 5 full reviews of the game, and even with a patch forthcoming, it just doesn't sound very interesting. I was never really interested to begin with, so I'm going to pass on it.

ArsTechnica: Why we're not reviewing Brink, and why you shouldn't buy it (yet)

By Ben Kuchera

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/05/why-were-not-review-brink-and-why-you-shouldnt-buy-it-yet.ars

1up.com also says it is unfinished. http://www.1up.com/reviews/brink-review

This is pretty much sad...

And is sad not because of this specific game but because is related to how an industry that makes tons of money works.

I just wonder what are the reasons for these bad and unethical behavior, when it comes to sell something to the public that is "incomplete".

What makes the game industry different from any other industry? Why we, consumers, tend so much to be forgiving these Studios when they Epically fail?

I mean, would you buy your new Car, doesn t matter who is your fav manufacturer, if there was a far chance your rear wheels will fall apart as soon as you cross the street from the car dealership ???

Why we normally do expect from anything else we use to buy it simply "works" and then for the game industry we just close our eyes and "pray it works" ?

It is not a matter of cheap price. Nowadays games are on an average of 50 -60 bucks. That is close to a mid-size car full tank or a medium diinner for you and your g/f... I mean, 60 bucks are still able to buy something out there (not for long, maybe).

I just really don t feel like I wanna forgive these ppl anymore. They fail to deliver? They shoudl be fucking out of business!

When i pay 50 bucks, my greens don t need any "patch" to be expendable. You get that money and you go buying grocery... you dont get a message at the register like "Version mismatch" !

This ppl need to go fucking home and get a real job !

People swallow this because thats how 99% of the people grew up with when talking about computers,pc's never really worked ever since MS took over the desktop....and people accepted it after 14years....people dont realy expect any piece of software or anything related to a pc to work out of the box.....i dunno...maybe software is still not seen as yours, something tangible ..something you own, something real....
