DICE Rendering Architect, Johan 'repi' Andersson gave a talk at GDC this past Monday called 'DX11 Rendering in Battlefield 3'. A Japanese website posted some pictures of the lecture. BETA TESTING SCHEDULE

Joystiq got to see Battlefield Play4Free in action late last night at GDC 2011 and, while a full interview is still incoming, we were able to get details on the plans for next month's beta launch. Right now the game is in closed beta, and we were told that at peak times, developer EAsy has "a few thousand" players enjoying the game so far.

 

On March 31, EA plans to send out codes for the beta to players of other Battlefield games, including the also free-to-play Battlefield Heroes, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Then, on April 2, invites will go out to selected followers on Twitter and Facebook, and finally, on April 4, EA will open the game up for a public beta, with an official launch later on this year.

 

So mark your calendars: Assuming everything goes according to EA's plan, you could be sniping fools and earning battlefunds as soon as 4/4. Stay tuned for more about the title from the hands-on event.

LOL! I hope its going to be good. Looks good, Its got the eye candie, looks like Graw3, Im preying to the great game gods that this one will not be anouther eastern communist block plot to under mine good games in the free world, DA commrad? LOL!!!

 

Oh great game gods let us prey that so this new game won't be a pacth cluster and run like skynet on our computers and we prey that there won't be terabytes of pacthes and updates and that when you shoot the enemy they will die when they are suppost to, and not on the last round of a 30 shot mag, and not take a t3 connection to play. And punk buster will let us join a populated server. And we won't have to connect to 3 servers at the same time to play one game= 1)game server, 2)stats server, 3) punkbuster server. Amen! LOL!!!! Thats not asking to much is it? If its good i will buy it and not say one bad thing about EA games again.

All I saw was an idiot running forward by himself several times & dying because of none coordination, Typical. If the odds are stacked you'd think it was in the attackers favour as:

 

1/ Attackers come from multiple directions, defenders are in know area.

2/ Attackers can easily snipe cover the defender zone.

3/ Attackers have Armour.

4/ Attackers blame the tools when they fail as it's only common.

 

 

If the map was unbalanced, I'm sure DICE would address it, but if they don't, maybe they think it's not unbalanced. regardless it's good when teams overcome the odds to show others what is possible. If you make it too easy, what's the point?, Attacking is always harder (unless you have the USA airforce carpet bombing).

 

 

In 8 weeks we will all voice the opinion of an expert......

 

 

 

The Caspian Analysis video was just info for those that missed what was actually shown in the trailer.

It's still pretty unbalanced imo. A coordinated squad can help carry a team to the final objective, but when an overwhelming majority (around 80% or more) of players over a 2 week period never even made it to the last set of objectives, let alone destroy them, that's a map design flaw. I was always playing with a full squad of friends throughout the Alpha (all veterans in the fps and Battlefield genre) and we could rarely carry the team. However, there were two factors/bugs that probably exacerbated this problem: the squad leader system was bugged and wouldn't designate a leader, and when it did designate you couldn't spawn on your SL most of the time. If the Attacking team's squads would've been able to spawn on their respective SL's and keep the pressure on the objectives, it would give SL's incentive to keep safe, but close distances to the frontlines. I don't think it would fix entirely the balance of the map as defenders are able to spawn on their SL's too, but it would've helped.

 

Then again, I don't seem myself playing too much "Rush" if I can help it. Way too similar to Battlefield: Bad Chokepoints 2.
