Sort Question

When sorting a list, does anyone know what the first symbol/number/letter will be first. Is it 1 or some other random alt code.

As in sorting on a spreadsheet or something? I believe symbols come first like $%#&, then numbers, then letters. I could be wrong though.

I've seen it different ways, so I'm pretty sure it depends on the sorting algorithm you're using. But generally speaking, I've always seen it either as the back tick "`" or an exclamation point.

Basically I want to make sure that my name ends up at the top of a list on a website. I am limited though. I can't have like ````!!!!!!@@@@@My Name

Most of the ones I've seen use the ASCII value for a character to determine its position in a sort.

 

So take a look at this--start at the top of the second colum and work towards the end. You only need to pay attention to the Dec and Chr columns, the smaller the decimal value for that character, the higher in the sort it will be (if sorting is ascending)

 

So, [space] comes before ! which comes before " which comes before #...etc.

Then try " Name" with spaces in front.
