Upgrading from Win7 beta or RC1 to Full (RTM)

RC1 will terminate on 1st march 2010 & if you been using it you have to replace it with the RTM or full version

 

The Solution

 

The solution is to edit a file inside the Windows 7 DVD?which you?ll have to extract to the hard drive to proceed.

 

Once you?ve opened up the cversion.ini file, you?ll notice that the MinClient line has a value of 7233.0, and since the Windows 7 RC release is build 7100, you can understand why it?s not working

Important Notes

 

There are a few important things to keep in mind when you are upgrading to the final version:

 

?The Windows 7 beta or RC releases were Ultimate edition, so you?ll only be able to upgrade to the RTM (final) if you are installing Ultimate Edition.

?Whenever possible, you should really backup your files and do a clean install. There are less headaches this way, and you get the benefit of a nice clean profile.

If you are asking if after this upgrade you get the updates, you should, because you are ging to upgrad to a retail version of 7. you are not cracking the OS or using a pirate copy, you are only "confusing" te OS to have it upgrading.

This would qualify as an exploit (modifying the install disc to fool the OS). Windows 7 has "phone home" tech in it to randomly check if the current installation is legit every few months. I would assume that they would of figured this one out or eventually will given the handy video. Don't be suprised if after all the hard work Windows 7 still pops up saying you need a new license and downgrades you.

In UK you can buy Win7 32 and 64 Home version in a install on three PC deal for £120.00 aprox. PC world for high street store or many of the online stores.

I have Windows 7 RC1 & a full copy of Windows 7 Ultimate.

 

The problem was to replace RC1 with ultimate & not have to erase the installation & all my settings.

This solution works, as for microsoft checking on the validity, who gives a monkeys, it's a full copy with serial.

 

£150 from retail windows 7 64bit & 32bit.

 

 

This is only for those on RC1 and wanting to replace with Full, on 1st of march RC1 will terminate.....

Well, it will not totally terminate on march 1st. It will shut down every 2 hours without saving your work.

 

In June 2010 it will terminate.
