Domination: What's Your Role?

Took a little while but I am getting comfortable with playing on the Domination server.

I tried being a sniper, a tank blow'er up'er, and so on and I think I've finally found my niche/role.

Having great fun as an Artillery guy... get to blow stuff up, but I also get to do forward observations and general scouting.

I load out with 1 ammo clip, 2 satchel charges, Laser marker and a battery. You will often find me either holed up in my arti hideout or working toward the radiotower with my satchels, or getting set into a safe spot for some Laser painting.

In addition, I get to do occasional revives... all of this seems to satisfy my penchant for providing support to my team.

So, everyone.....whats your role? :)

I've found that I'm really good at flying choppers, much better than I was in Arma. I can fly the Blackhawk, Huey, and AH-1 pretty darn well nowadays.

I don't mind doing cleanup work, because by the time I actually make it to the objective, it's already taken and I've spent 10min running around not even firing a shot. (kind of like my real wartime experience lol)

I'd much rather run a little more tactically when people are listening, but that rarely happens. I'm good at planning strategy and such, where to put ammo boxes, ect.

I Started with Arti guy and doing recon but have found that I like being Squad leader so I can drop ammo or an artillery piece.

Load out is for Tank Buster, DMR sniper semi auto with SMAW and 5 he rounds and smoke.

I have found that if you recon then soften up the heavy hitters the squad can push forward and take the area.

I like to fly and am pretty good at it but it helps to have a door gunner/navigator to relay information. I don't mind picking up crates, MRUs, or players and transporting them to their needed place.

What I hate is when you get to where you need to be for a pickup some unknown retard shoots you down or crashes in to you. I am not sure if this happens on purpose or accidentally, but either way, it ruins the game. It is just a lot more forgivable when it's a true accident.

I'd rather play with:

A. People I can trust.

B. People that don't screw the pooch on purpose.

I mean, FFS, the guy didn't even apologize. OMGWTFBBQ!!! Talk about frustrating.

Other than this, I like it.

Played around with most roles but have really settled into the AT role. Over the last couple of weeks I've been puting the SMAW through it's paces to understand what I can achieve and am now getting consistant long distance kills.

Preferred loadout for the moment is DMR = 3 clips / SMAW = 3 - 4 rounds HEAA and picking up a tip from one of you guys? I drop the DMR to backpack and take a 2nd rifle. Usually the silenced G36 but also played with the MG36 for the last few nights.

If there's plenty in the server then I come in as a true AT specialist but if numbers are low I take this loadout but as an engineer. That's where I get the difference in SMAW rounds, can get 4 with an AT guy but only 3 as engineer.

Playing on Sparta server is really enjoyable as the core players focus on the tactical side, a huge improvement on the random servers out there.

Still need to raise the bar with my flying but happy to leave that to the professionals! :D

I like to lift troops and vehicles to frontline areas or relocating to next objective. I also have fun cleaning up wrecks, but I often let others do that who seem to enjoy it more. I also like recon/sniping or even close assault with a mg.

I join in a MG role which gives you a 249 that I usually switch out.

I often loadout with an mk48 after dropping initial load out so that I have no extra spaces, then I set the mk48 to my backpack and go back into gear, load out with DMR, two frags, two satchels and a silenced pistola.

I love this combo, DMR at range, move in with mk48 and pistola if need be, satchels for radio tower, frags for infantry groups. I also like the fact that as MG Gunner I can set up a MG nest, even when I load out with the mk48 it places a 249? or 240? in the nest. At close range, mk48 is very effective with retcule marker without the need to use aimpoint scope, though using scope works great at medium to long range. Though not quite like the responsiveness in a game such as GRAW, OGR or GRAW2, still, inching up on a corner and peeking, then whipping around corner with mk48 a blazing has reminded me of those games.

I usually go around as the Sniper/Medic. I have a basic loadout of either the SPR Mk12 sniper or the M24, and then Ill get a backpack weapon of the M4 silenced. Depending on how many carry slots will determine if I carry the SMAW and 2 rounds of that.

Depends on if I'm admin and there are a lot of guests around

I'm not good at sniping (M107) or being medic neither role, having tried them a bit, appeals

Arty guy with the limited kit loadout, tried this but I need to play with more guys ingame before I decide if it appeals

I do like the Engineer or Team leader roles with this loadout

DMR on back (I do not use it as a sniper rifle very often)

MP5 silenced two mags in hands

Silenced pistol

2xSatchels

SMAW 3 rounds

I'm happy not being in the direct assault I like filling in the gaps in assault, fixing assets, dropping equipment and I even like the flying (helo only not fixed wing).

I think I do about the same as Watchy, although I'm differing roles to get the hang of all different abilities.

Flying chopper I really need to look deeper into that, my joystick doesn't do well up to now, somehow I think I need to reset the controls, or check the zeroing of my joystick as I crash everytime I fly.

My role is crash test dummy for chopper/MRV manouevres, bullet magnet for assaults on towns.

But if I can get some elevation, a line of sight and 2000+ metres distance I can make a nuisance of myself with an M107. I think I have destroyed one armoured vehicle since I started playing ArmA 2.

I suck at all of the roles but i enjoy all of them as well. I don't like to do just one thing all the time so i play around with different roles/jobs. I mainly carry a sniper rifle no matter what my role is just based on view distance and being able to kill someone with only one shot or maybe two. I do need to force myself to use more guns but i keep going back to the M107 or my new choice DMR (because i can carry more smaw/satchels).

I love to fly as well. With a chopper i can take off perfectly fine...i can fly where ever i want to. I can dodge fire and maneuver the chopper however i want...and i am getting better at flying low along the trees. The one thing i have not got a handle on is stopping. I know to tilt the front to bleed off speed. I just haven't got the magical touch to tilt it back at the right time. At what speed do you start tiling back? I end up swinging like a pendulum like you do when you turn auto-hover on. So i need to work on that as well. Also once i do finally get stopped( i have done it a couple of times) i am usually not in the exact spot i need to be...so moving over slightly is always a challenge as well. Then i end up drifting back and forth and have to end up throwing the dreaded auto hover on just to control it. Getting a new joystick today so hopefully i will have a better touch with it.

But everything i try is fun. And thank you all for helping out so much. It is much appreciated.

Thank you for being a part of the good times as finding guys that can communicate in this game is what the commaradie(sp?) is all about.

Well jeez, if you're going to go around handing out thanks then you better include yourself and the other Sparta regulars in that list.

Halli is always there, come rain or shine, leading us to objectives and giving us much needed direction... Durka is usually herding cats all night and barely gets to lift his gun, Cy is right in there handling disputes between players and keeps the peace, I mean the list of people and contributions goes on and on... so if thanks are to be tossed around, you guys who are in there all the time admining the server and creating a great play experience better make sure you are in the line up to get your share.

I usually go engineer with: M16 w/203 and ACOG, 4 clips, SMAW and 4 AT rounds, 8x HE 203 rounds and a laser designator.

I enjoy working with other people as a coordinated team, baring that I enjoy the role of rotary wing pilot, though I always seem to find myself getting shot down when I am carrying the MHQ in.

AT character

run to gear box and clear all guns.

DMR + 12 Mags (this will last for 3 or 4 towns usually, so i dont have to keep rearming)

DMR to backpack

select Javelin + 1 rocket, spawn at MHQ and pick up another Javelin rocket.

use both javelins, and snipe with DMR until moving into town.

when team moves up find artillery and use those ammo crates to pickup 6 satchel charges, blow up tower / small tower / any stati guns / mortars / mg's / buildings etc etc, but this causes a lot of TK's, as soon as i plant a satch i can guarantee someone will run over to it.

Ham and Tomato is my favourite roll, - OH - you said role!

Geared up as a general foot slogger, have taken to slinging something heavier on my back - due to the number of vehicles that have slotted me.

Prefer the ACOG scope on a M4, - my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. I'd be happy to sling a grenade or two.

You will always find me on the back seat of air transport - it's where they serve coffee

preferred loadoutl(note* that you can use backpack to store another weapon). i usually take the m107 xm8 with m203 a smaw with a couple of rockets and a 9mm.

I am a support heavy equipment specialist/sniper/tank hunter.

I'm mostly an engineer guy, but I'll typically be carrying a DMR and either a javalin or smaw. You'll also find me flying quite a bit; either jets or choppers

I usually have to grab a rifle with cross-hairs. Usually a M16 or M203 ACOG, a SMAW with a couple of rounds.

I then proceed to go forth from the MHQ and soak up bullets while the rest of you run around killing the enemy and reviving me. :)

The best part of Domination is the revive.

If you care about being revived you have to move with other team mates and you have to revive others. Ever since I played OFP missions I found reviving others almost as much fun as taking out armour (which is a rare occurence on my part) and sniping.

You'll generally see me in a ghillie suit, a lot of times one of the first ones on the main objective proned out sniping.

I tend to kind of be on my own a lot when I snipe, but I do like being in a well organized group as well when I snipe. It's nice having MG or assault rifle cover from time to time.

Weapons of choice

Mk12 Mod 0 SPR - 12 magazines

G36C or an M4 with Aimpoint or Eotech - 12 magazines

I need to start carrying a SMAW more often though, since I'm one of the first on main a lot of times, I have good opportunities to take out a lot of armor, but never have the thing with me.
