Zeno~SPARTA~
We have 5 B52s awaiting return to their home base. All we have left at Batumi are 3 F/A 18s and an AWACS. Intel reports that a roque group are heading this way from up north to destroy our assets with TU 22 Backfires. Can a band of noobs figure out how to arm their air to air missiles, find and destroy the Backfires or will they manage to drop their 276 250kg packages at our doorstep! Zeno~SPARTA~
As you know Scramble at Batumi is a simple training mission that allows you to practice various elements from take off and landing to Air Combat (ground and air targets). Shooting down the TU22s that come in to bomb the base give noobs like us the thrill of combat without too much difficulty. But as we get more capable we need more challenge. A Radar/SAM site in the north protecting Ammo and Fuel Dumps as well as a patrolling carrier with its support. The Radar/SAM site has massive range, so venturing north to hit the Russian Awacs and Mig 29s will most likely end badly. I had a go at destroying the Site with Gunthar and Steel. Gunthar planned a strike using AGM88C HARM missiles (which lock onto threat radars) which needed an eastern approach from the mountains, we mapped waypoints he gave us directly into the F18s computer and headed out from Batumi. On the way we did some formation flying, sadly I was concentrating too much to take photos,. But I had done earlier when Gunthar flew in formation with me in his F16. BTW the Strike was a success. But it will be there tomorrow!

Zeno~SPARTA~
We have been having a bit of trouble with a small armed russian ship with a pretty decent CWIZ anti missile defence. It was very effective at shooting our Harpoons out of the sky since our approach was abeam to the target. Adder suggested we use our 2 planes to approach the ships fore and aft reducing the effectiveness the CWIZ. I had technical issues when I tried with Adder so the ship only had to deal with 4 missiles, none the less adder was succesful. Later Cent and I had a go at coordinating our approach and fired 4 AGM88 Harpoons each from the bow and the stern and all of them hit with seconds of each other Here are my 4 We were quite pleased with ourselves as our approaches were planned on the ground and the missiles were programmed to match the expected headings also whilst we were on the ground. Coordinated play is starting to remind me of our old Arma days.
Hunter~SPARTA~
I'm going to have a lot of catching up to do with the F-18. I didn't get a chance to play this weekend like I had hoped. I was looking over the DLC's before the sales ends, are there any others that are recommended? I figured I'd probably get Flaming Cliffs 3 since you get quite a few aircraft with it. Also wasn't sure how much value the Supercarrier added vs the one that comes with the Hornet.
Zeno~SPARTA~
I think FC3 is a good module to have as there are a bunch of planes that are quite interesting to fly, plus the F15 and Su27 are thought to be amongst the best ACM fighters available. The high fidelity A10 is meant to be really tough to master plus there is another one coming out in the near future. The Super carrier is not on sale anymore, but I wanted it because it has a virtual ILFLS(?the ball) that pops up near your head. Also they upgraded the Kuznetsov in a way that make it much more usable.BTW I made a mistake, I think the carriers are part of the free game. I would like a helicopter but I dont like any that are currently available with the exception of the KA50, but that is tough to fly and fight at the same time. I will probably get it, even though another black shark is coming out. I want the F14 but can wait until its on sale, same for the Viggen. I bought the AV8B on sale I havent explored it yet but I will.

Zeno~SPARTA~
Nice one Cent. A great day for you yesterday, first air to air refuelling and mastering the laser guided bombs in the F18. What does Scramble at Batumi have in it now, I hear no one asking? It is a training environment for a variety of Aircraft and tasks, including. US Batumi 4 F18s to practice everything they can do 3 SU25Ts take off and landing, waypoint navigation, ground and sea bombing (dumb and guided) 3 AV8Bs initially configured at VTOL weight to practice take off and landing, but obviously can be reconfigured into a strike package 2 F16s to practice everything they can do Kobeleti (primarily FC3 planes more will be added) 3 SU27s Initially configured forwaypoint navigation and Air to Air but can be reconfigured 1 KA50 1 Mirage US Carrier Group (Stennis, Roosevelt and Tarawa) 5 F18s (2 on the supercarrier) Practice take off and landings plus carrier strike missions 2 F18s Carrier approach and landing The carrier group launches and S3 tanker to practice air to air refuelling KC130 refuelling plane 2 F18s to practice air to air refuelling. Russia The Russians also have a Carrier Group Admiral Kuznetsov Carrier with 3 SU33s Sochi Adler Base 2 SU33s 2 SU27s Targets When the server starts 4 TU22s will bomb the base fuel tanks, you have 15-20 minutes to launch and destroy them To the north there are 4 immobile ships, one armed with a CWIZ. Further to the Northeast are 5 fuel tanks to practice dumb bombing, guided bombing and air to ground missile firing East of them are a bunch of Tanks and ZU23s (Urals and Shilkas) for Mavericks and other precision munitions. These can move but have no destination. Death awaits in the North After we cut our teeth on the southern easy targets (which over time I will make harder), we move to the north. 3 Mig 29s defending an Awacs Carrier Group, Admiral Kuznetsov Carrier and a Kirov Class battlecruiser Pyotr Velikiy Defended by a Radar station (EWR55G6) and several SA10 SAM site (plus Zu23s) This requires a coordinated attack or at least executed in stages 1 a Kill the RADAR station b Kill the SAMS 2 Kill the AWACS and its MIG escorts 3 Kill the Carrier Group

Zeno~SPARTA~
More changes to Scramble at Batumi. There are now 2 Flights of Harriers at Batumi and, by popular request, 3 of the 6 are in a hot start state. Therefore they can be ready to defend the base more promptly. There are now 5 F18s at Batumi 3 KA50s have been added to Nalchik The SU25T and the A10C have been moved to Kobuleti I have finally figured out how to have the bombers commence there strike based on a trigger point Apart from Harriers taking off vertically all Batumi Planes have to pass through this trigger to take off, first to do so spawns the bombers and there escort. There will be other applications for the trigger function. having tankers or carriers spawn in when you need fuel on a long range mission. I also want to work on an air combat area, but for now I can make an event happen once, I need to understand how to make it repeat as often as you want. I also want to add random placement of units so that you have to find them, but that is for the future.
Hunter~SPARTA~
Seems at some point in the mission, a UH-60 lands on the Stennis and stays parked on the landing runway. Unless the mission didn't get restarted at all today, it was there last night when I was practicing landing and was there again tonight.
Zeno~SPARTA~
I will remove the Ai Chopper, it was just there to look cool. I have fixed the tankers, they stay up for 12 hours now. The idea of Scramble at Batumi, is to be able to practice basic flight (Take off, Landing and Navigation) as well as Air to Ground and Air to Air combat. It has helped me improve my personal knowledge of how the editor works. However it is not the be all and end all of missions. If anyone finds missions that they would like on the server please just leave a link and we will add it. I am thinking of adapting Flaming Cliffs 3 campaign missions to include the popular planes we fly, such as the F18 and AV8B Harrier.
Zeno~SPARTA~
I have removed the chopper by the carrier. I have fixed the BVR combat trigger. For now it will only trigger once, but I am investigating how to make that repeat. This is the trigger zone I have added warehouses that are visible on the map to help locate the zone. Zeno~SPARTA~
Some fun at Batumi. Firstly, well done Cent, possibly the first of us to aerial refuel. Next up, Adder. Having landed a shot up Harrier with half a wing missing and on fire, rearmed and refuelled and took off again to engage aircraft that had bombed the base. This would be a feat in of itself, but he also managed to shoot down a TU22 with a sidewider.
adder360~SPARTA~
Luckly the lack of half a wing lowerd the weight and made the VTOL that bit easyer. Zeno~SPARTA~
We tested J's dynamic version of scramble at Batumi where you can call in enemy fighters using the radio once you enter the trigger zone and this worked well. No we know how to do this we can use this technique for other things as well. Thanks J.

Zeno~SPARTA~
I have added moving BTRs at the crossed unnamed runway between Kobuleti and Batumi airports. There are 2 sets of 5 moving up and down each arm of the runway and should continue to do so until they run out of fuel or are destroyed. In testing they did 2 clean loops before getting confused so I cannot guarantee what they will do, so to quote Stingray, anything can happen in the next half hour! adder360~SPARTA~
I noticed these will make good prastic for the IR mavricks trying to hit a moving target. byt the end of my session i had noticed one of the APCs had gone rouge and was drving through the fence near of the air feild the F-15 are at. I was trying the GBU's on the 4 target buildings hit the one that looks like a small cout yard fine but then trying to hit the longer building my bombs kept over shoting which is odd, i only got a few runs in before i was intercepted by the MIG's. so naturaly i had to launch an interceptor and take care of the MIGS, after shoting them down i was returning to Batumi when i was found my self coming head to head to the OPFOR bomber wing and escorts, so i engaged.... a hairy engagement i cliped my wing on one of the migs mid dog fight causing bitching betty to constanctly shout eject at me, but i continued engagment Somone needed to avenge to empy buildings they just destroyed and manged to take out all of the bogies. Return to Batumi and land. Steering wasnt great and looks like one of the landing gear wasnt fully down. After this i thorght there AWACS had to go so lauched a High altertude strike attack, climbed to 35,000 and carried out a diving attack on there AWACS and its escorts the a mix of 120's and aim-9 were used and managed to elimante the targets. grumbles were geting launched at me but mangaged to evade with a mix of speed direction change and chaff. This speed came at the cost of fuel and i did not have enough to return to base, made it closer than i thorght but was still about 20nm shy. i even gave it a go on 1 engine but was not enough. Zeno~SPARTA~
I had that the last time I tried with GBUs. JDAMS from the Harrier might be a better way to go plus they are easy to program. The downside seems to be that you only get 500lb bombs. If that fails JSOWs from the F18 could work as they take elevation into account. Well done on the air combat. I am useless at that until I get on their tail, I have not figured out how to make the 120s work at longer range, in the F15 or the F18. I will ask Gunthar if he will show me BVR in the F18. Sorry about the BTRs, even when there was only one it would wander off after a couple of laps. Still it adds a random element to the practice mission.
