Hello all,

This happened earlier this week in Ballard Washington.

It was a rental car... Ford Mustang and the driver was doing over 90mph (150kph) when he lost control in this 30mph speed zone.

He hit a light pole designed to stop cars... then a wall/fence... then a tree... then another light pole... he tore the car completely apart... and walked away.

He had nothing but a small laceration on his head treated at the scene. He really did walk away from this.

Looking at this car... something protected this man...perhaps luck or perhaps a guardian angel... either way there is no reason the drivers compartment should be intact.

well the police said he was doing 90mph

Witnesses said he was doing closer to 150mph.

But regardless... to cut a car up into pieces like that by hitting poles and trees...... and simply walk away? amazing.... it is like the part of the car he was sitting in forgot it was supposed to be experiencing a very violent wreck.

If you think about the physics involved in this wreck.... and the fact he walked away uninjured... he has used up a lifetime of good luck in a single event. There were numerous things happening per second during that wreck that could easily have killed him... none of them even injured him.

He is in a car that weighs about 3700 pounds going at least 90mph. He hits at least two objects that are basically not movable... and therefore act as a solid wall. The G' loads in such a wreck are surprisingly high. This is why the car was ripped apart at the main structure level. 3700 pounds trying to stop in less than a second from 90mph produces enormous loads instantly.

[iE.] If the Driver weighs 175 pounds, he is in a car that weighs 3700 pounds going 90mph.
IF the car had hit and stopped on the first pole it hit... the driver would have seen a force of 47,418 pounds on him or... 271 G's. This would have instantly ripped him apart internally exploding every major organ and shattered every bone in his body. The human body begins to come apart internally between 50 and 70 G's. (note race car drivers can sometimes withstand quite a bit more for less than a second due to 6pt. harnesses, helmets, neck braces etc.). In a passenger car seeing these kinds of loads he would have been a blob of goo when it was over. These types of loads were continuously occurring during the impacts in this wreck. If any of these g loads had come close to him, he would have died instantly.

We had a case in Finland where a truck tipped over and fell on a car. That man inside the car walked away after he was cut out from under the trailer full of dog food and his car debris, that is what I call luck.

Guy surviving that accident in that Mustang is called in Finland as Stupids or Drunks luck which is not too good to brag about.
