Here is an outline of a general approach to starting the game.

We want to try to get you to LTT 15278 where there are a variety of opportunities to make money. We have observed that the fastest route to making money initially is by collecting bounties, once you make enough to get into a hauler we will introduce to rares trading, On the way to LTT 15278 you will make some money from your basic discovery scanner as well.

We will try to get you into a Cobra Mk III as fast as possible as this is a great ship for transporting, fighting and mission running, The Cobra will lead you to a Lakon type 6. With a 6 you can make good money from running simple trade routes.

I try to mix things up with long discovery missions, trading and bounty hunting. but when I started I avoided fighting which was a mistake. .I am happy to escort you but after a while you will be equipped to deal with almost any opponent or at least know enough to recognize when to run away.

As you progress we will chat about some economic guidelines you need to be aware of when buying new ships.

Good luck.

We did a bit of work preparing a Lakon Type 6 yesterday

The type 6 with 104 cargo (no weapons) will cost 1,248,051 but to get to Gali takes 10 jumps so you need to upgrade the FSD to 4D (which will get you to Gali in 2 Jumps) which brings the total to 1,287,806

So all together you need

1 287 806 Ship Price

64 390 Insurance

800 000 cargo

2 152 196 Total

You could go ahead when you have 1 848 000 which will allow you to buy 40 beryllium and build up as you make more money

Yep, thanks for the help setting her up. I had 1.8M, but made the first run with the stock FSD so was able to use some of the first leg profit to offset the cost of the upgraded FSD. Made several runs last night and with an upgrade to the powerplant, I am now back up to 950K credits...

Would have had more if I hadn't wiped out my Cobra on the inside edge of a letter box by saying "boost" instead of "landing gear" and lost 35 tonne of rares...

Lakon Type 9

Initial setup requirements

500 Cargo

Jump range > 9.87

To achieve the cargo requirement you need to swap the level 6 shield for a level 5 shield (I started with a 5E)

I stripped off the guns and havent replaced them yet

You need a 6B minimum Frame shift Drive (9.95 laden)

The Cost for this is 85 508 940 (depending on location)

Insurance is 4 275 447 (Based on 5%)

Cargo cost is 3 810 500 Approx)

The total therefore is 93 594 887, call it 95mm to be safe

This setup will overheat slightly when you jump. The ship runs at about 50% at its coolest and goes up around 50% when you jump. But when youre near the sun on an intermediate jump the temp only goes down to around 53% so it overheats, for now this is inconsequential but Luggs has informed us that after the Wings patch the ship will damage if the heat level goes above 100%. To overcome this I have changed my power plant from a 6E to a 6B for a net cost of 5.2mm.

Greetz

I just got ED installed and still sorting out which controller(s) to use. Luv the look and feel of the game but I'm getting a royal arse kicking in the 'dog fight' training missions.

Actually I was hoping to do a bit of exploring, some 'mining' (or whatever it's called), and just enjoy relaxing while zooming about the galaxy.

So, my question is; just how proficient does one need to be in terms of dog fighting before being able to hop on a server for a laugh without getting annihilated each time?

If it's dog fighting I must learn, then that's where I will concentrate my efforts. If not, sweet!

I'm still sorting out the HIDs so no rush at all. Just thinking out loud as it were in terms of what the skill set priorities might be.

Hope everyone is enjoying their sims of choice and looking forward to catching up most soonest.

Cheers

I understand there have been updates that make basic unescorted trade runs problematic. Also there are profitable missions that use smaller stations (ie no large docks). From what I understand people have been using the Asp for these types of missions, but I would have thought the Python would be a better ship. Its laden jump range is 14.91 with 224 tonnes of cargo, (keeping the level 6 shields). It has 3 large and 2 medium weapon hardpoints. Finally it fits on a medium platform.

It seems to me, if you can afford it, this would be the go to ship for these missions, plus a Python fights better than an Asp.

Bad plan with the Python. I got there ok but discovered that the huge jumps of the Asp were needed. So I too a couple of courier missions back towards civilized space and passed through an area of unscoopable stars. I looked on the galaxy map and they looked ok but eventually I ran out of possibilities and self destructed costing me 4.4mm credits. I started again using the economic route and eventually got back to LTT 15278. I managed to offset some of the cost with a vast amount of exploration and a couple of the missions that did expire. but still a net loss for me. Should be on the right track now.

I eventually sorted the Python out for mission work and was happy with the result, although you have to put up with shorter individual jumps. I can live with that for more firepower, strength and cargo over the Asp. All I had to do was add a very large scoop and swap some of the cargo for fuel. As a result I can use this ship to fight and do long distance missions to platforms.

Since participating in the long range missions I have bought three ships, the Diamondback Explorer, the Imperial Courier and finally the Fer de Lance.

Here is mine in the station bay.
