About the Game
PAYDAY 2 is an action-packed, four-player co-op shooter that once again lets gamers don the masks of the original PAYDAY crew - Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains - as they descend on Washington DC for an epic crime spree.

The new CRIMENET network offers a huge range of dynamic contracts, and players are free to choose anything from small-time convenience store hits or kidnappings, to big league cyber-crime or emptying out major bank vaults for that epic PAYDAY. While in DC, why not participate in the local community, and run a few political errands?

Up to four friends co-operate on the hits, and as the crew progresses the jobs become bigger, better and more rewarding. Along with earning more money and becoming a legendary criminal comes a new character customization and crafting system that lets crews build and customize their own guns and gear.

Key Features
  • Rob Banks with Friends – Players must choose their crew carefully, because when the job goes down they will need the right mix of skills on their side.

  • CRIMENET – The dynamic contract database lets gamers pick and choose from available jobs by connecting with local contacts such as Vlad the Ukrainian, shady politician "The Elephant", and South American drug trafficker Hector, all with their own agenda and best interests in mind.

  • PAYDAY gun play and mechanics on a new level – firing weapons and zip tying civilians never felt so good.

  • Dynamic Scenarios – No heist ever plays out the same way twice. Every single scenario has random geometry or even rare events.

  • Choose Your Skills – As players progress they can invest in any of four special Skill Trees: the Mastermind, the Enforcer, the Ghost and the Technician. Each features a deep customization tree of associated skills and equipment to master, and they can be mixed and matched to create the ultimate heister.

  • More Masks than Ever – PAYDAY 2 features a completely new mask system, giving players the ability to craft their own unique mask together with a pattern and a color combination.

  • Weapons and Modifications – A brand new arsenal for the serious heister, covering everything from sniper and assault rifles to compact PDWs and SMGs. Once you've settled for a favorite, you can modify it with optics, suppressors, fore grips, reticles, barrels, frames, stocks, all of which will affect the performance of your weapon. There are also purely aesthetic enhancements - why not go for the drug lord look with polished walnut grips for your nine?

  • Play It Your Way – Each job allows for multiple approaches, such as slow and stealthy ambushes, to running in guns blazing. Hit the target any way you want, and watch as the heist unfolds accordingly.

This game is amazing. Been playing it non-stop for the past couple of days. Can't wait for release.

Stealth runs are incredibly fun in this game.

It is also a vast improvement over the original Payday. Well worth the $50 for the pre-order.

really liked the original but was sometimes getting a bit boring to reply the same stuff over and over and over (70+ hours on 5 maps or so?).

can you do the levels in different ways? how many heists are there.

btw these guys are the guys who made GRAW :D

In Beta, there are 5(?) maps. Someone will have to confirm that.

The maps are randomized each time you play them. So the layout and patrols of guards, obstacles, and objectives can be in different locations from the last time you played the map.

We have found our tricks to a few levels, but haven't really experimented with alternate solutions.

There are several features that haven't appeared yet. More maps, unlockables, and other things will show up when the game goes live.

I'm looking forward to a 7 day long heist. Who's with me?

There are some small things that bug me.. like the AK sight being over the barrel w/no side rail dove plate attachment available, but the micro smg has a full top AND bottom rail... :/ I hope these are addressed. If not no biggie, I can deal with my twin shotty scoped shit storm. I can't wait to see the tier 2 primary and secondary weapon trees though.

As for the 7 day heist? I CALL TOP BUNK lol

Definitely an amazing game, even in a beta state. Granted, there are occasional crashes and bugs, but they should be hammered out by release.

Stealth runs are fun to do, though personally I prefer the multi-day missions - even if they are combat oriented (hopefully some where stealth is possible, at least on some parts, will be out eventually). Things that change as you go to some degree make them interesting to play.

I really enjoyed the first , but as P says it was a bit repetative! This looks very interesting.

Yeah original PD was like 4 missions? This has a few more just in beta, also the objectives change locations as well as the number of guards/police, and some of the people you play with are COMPLETE morons so that's always a challenge too.

I remember reading somewhere that Overkill had planned something like 15-17 unique missions.

I've also seen YouTube videos of the pre-beta release that included other missions such as "Framing Frame" where you steal art from an art gallery.

Considering the enjoyment I've had with just the current handful of missions, I can't wait till there are almost triple that amount.

On another note, they've said there will be up to potentially 5 separate DLC packages. Which I'm sure will add new heists.

P.S.- Our last Bank Heist scored us a whopping $401,000 in cash money.

BETA UPDATE #2 (It will hit within a couple of hours)

Hi guys!

Alright Heisters, time for BETA UPDATE 2 (YES it will reset you - this is needed as truck loads of anti cheats and balancing is coming in)

First off - huge thanks to the community and the thousands of players contributing to these fixes. We have had the full team on this and it has been real usefull. Not only taking your feedback but also checking statistics and behaviors. What we have here is a real good update and much thanks to you.

Oh... Electric Center is now Infamous for real :)

We have done a lot of tweaks to the balancing of the game. Made it more sane on single and two player levels while bumping up the tempo on 3-4 player sessions.

Players with Laptops and old ATI cards will be happy to know your mouselag is mainly due to overheating and mismatch between GPU and CPU loads - we have added a controller in the advanced video options for that. Also we have previously posted about setting your AMD catalyst drivers correctly as well.

Also notable is that we added a Steam Gamehub short cut in the main menu and a direct link from us by the way of scrolling notes to all who are not on forums in the down left corner of the main menu.

Thanks to you guys the game is now MORE awesome >) - rest assured though we keep working to perfect it, as always.

Bo

Here are the update notes for Beta update #2:

  1. Fixed issues with bus doors on Rats being closed on some drop in players

  2. Added windshield breakage to cars

  3. Made the invite system less prone to drop invites in the boot up of the game

  4. Added a Updates news ticker to the bottom left corner of the main menu. Uses announcements from PAYDAY 2 gamehub (5 latest)

  5. Moved menu item help texts to the upper right corner

  6. Changed name of menu option to go to crimenet from lobby (Choose new contract instead of Crime.net). This when you already have a lobby up.

  7. Small rearrange of menu options in lobby menu to match main menu, also added dividers for spacing

  8. Depth of Field help text in start menu bug fix.

  9. Fixed that occasionally the mask pattern icon will be on top of all of the message texts when entering the inventory

  11. Network fix for host dropping "connection_established" message if it arrives before it has finished loading

  12. Solved the conflict when multiple users interact with the alarm pager simultaneously

  13. Fixed a rare crash on clicling the contract box in CrimeNet

  20. RISK LEVEL is now correctly represented by YELLOW SKULLS - and they are added to the Black Screen to psych you up before the heist >)

  21. Sound updates to the intro and attract videos

  22. FEATURE: You can now Terminate a ongoing contract from the menu if the server wants. This will allow the PARTY not to split up after a failed heist and try something else.

  23. The AK rifle is now unlocked at level 1 to give starting gangs a variety of choice and make more sense with how the weapon mods now drop.

  24. Fix for some animations that freeze when not in peripheral view

  45. FOUR STORES - Windows in 'The Pear Store' now connect with the wall

  46. FOUR STORES -Fixed stores window for Smoother jump troughs

  47. AI tactics tweak to make them storm you a bit less when you are weak and hold of when you are strong (remember to tie those civs down ppl - it will slow down the Assault)

  48. Drank a couple of Red Bulls... Thanks all!

and at last if you crash:

If you get a crash please send us your crashdump .mpdp file from your Steamapps/common/PAYDAY 2 Beta folder. We can read where the crash happened and kill it that way. Send it to almir@overkillsoftware.com and he will get back to you in due time.

If you cannot get your BETA to start then follow these instuctions (this works in 95% of the cases so try it even if you think you did right the first time):

  1. Try verifying the integrity of the game cache: 1a) Go open up your Steam client program and go to the "LIBRARY" section 1b) Right-click Payday in the list of games to the left - a drop-down menu will appear 1c) Click the menu option "Properties" at the very bottom of the drop-down menu - a dialog box will appear 1d) Click the "LOCAL FILES" tab in the upper part of the dialog box 1e) Click the third button that reads "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE..."

  2. Make sure you don't have an anti virus program that runs in sleep mode and has Payday on its "malicious software" list - it might be blocking the exe when it's trying to run.

  3. If none of that works, uninstall, redownload and reinstall the game. 3a) When you uninstall, please be sure to manually delete all the files that are left in your PAYDAY 2 Beta folder. Steam doesn't automatically delete these files and they can sometimes cause problems. These files are usually located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\PAYDAY 2 Beta

  4. If that doesn't work, get back to Almir at almir@overkillsoftware.com and we will look into it further.

Please note that the 3rd step needs to be done properly! Steam can fool you that the game has installed by showing a shortcut on your desktop before the game has finished installing. If you start the game before the installation or download is complete the process will stop and the install will be corrupt!

If the installation doesn't work, it has to do with Steam. There's nothing wrong with the game itself that makes it unable to start. The game can crash for numerous reasons - PhysX can be out of date, wrong GFX drivers, corrupt install - but the game itself is OK.

We will continue investigating all crashes that are reported.

Please continue your hard work and have fun!

OVERKILL
