  1. Ever wondered what some of the place names really meant? Here you go

    http://www.kalimedia.com/Atlas_of_True_Names.html

The Atlas of True Names reveals the etymological roots, or original meanings,
of the familiar terms on today's maps of the World, Europe, the British Isles and the United States.

For instance, where you would normally expect to see the Sahara indicated,
the Atlas gives you "The Tawny One", derived from Arab. es-sahra “the fawn coloured, desert”.

  2. It's been a while, but I don't think I've seen a more buggy game than this one. From buildings not rendering, to random glitches where labels don't show up, to gifting, to what I'm enduring right now, which is everything is in turtle speed, no matter what setting you put it on. Geeze.

  3. looking for some kind of external storage myself but for for media streaming. I can't quite decide between easy to use expensive NAS or cheap server which will take some setting up and maintaining, but your requirements are different.

as others might have said you have to look at

    how much data?

and how important is it? (do you need a backup?)

anyway, sounds like you would like something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817392056 http://www.vantecusa.com/en/product/view_detail/526

you need hard drives also, but you should mention how much space you need.

I go through about a TB per 2-2.5yrs. I could probably draw it out to 3 if I deleted unnecessary files. And yes, it's important that I have reliable backup. I wouldn't mind something that lasted me 5-6yrs or more, so if I got something that could hold 4 drives, that would work well. (I've never liked using more than 1 or 2tb due to reliability concerns)

  4. Man, wealth of information here, I'll have to comb through it over the weekend, haha. Hopefully I'll have more questions. I really like the idea of adding drives as affordability permits, but $400-500 seems a little steep for a box just to hold hard drives that I still have to buy.

  5. Hi all,

It's come time where my standard tower just isn't cutting it and I need a new system to store files. My main concern is just storage and retrieval. I don't need to run any OS off of it, just need a place to store my massive image files and get to them whenever. I've heard about DROBO, but it seems a bit $teep for a box that holds a bunch of hard drives. I'm sure it does more than that, but I was hoping somebody could educate me on all of this and point me in the right direction? Please? lol.

  6. LMAO I have to laugh so I wouldn't punch my monitor. Funny how I couldn't get into my city in Sim City just now because the damn server was down for maintenance, therefore denying me the option to play.

Did anyone else laugh when they opened up their Origin account and the popup for pre-ordering BF4 came up?

  7. I don't have much of a problem with origin, but now that I bought this game, I can say that EA, or whoever is running Maxis, has created a beautiful game....

...and has killed the franchise in the process. The cities are a fraction of the size they used to be, which makes for barely any room to have fun placing stuff. They have said the reason is because our processors won't run the game with cities the normal size, but we all know that they are lying and will release DLC in a couple months with the large sizes for a high price, no doubt. (See Sims3) .

People may be playing this in a couple months, but I highly doubt it's one of those games that lasts in the public consciousness.

  8. Looks like Maxis is trying to make it right because of their big screw up with the first few days of servers being down and are giving away an old game for free.

I'd rather see them provide an option to play offline, but from their other blog posts that ain't gonna happen since it's apparently the core component of their game. I give it 3mo.

  9. Read this

REQUIRING players to be online at ALL TIMEs, in my opinion, is probably the dumbest move I've ever seen a developer make. People pay $60, and many paid $80!!! for a game, and couldn't play it right away, or even days because the servers were down. They are so damned afraid of piracy that they are ruining the experience of everybody and will destroy the franchise.

This quote from the comments sums it up for me....

"I want the developers to be able to make a living as much as anybody, but under no circumstance do you make stopping pirates a priority over providing a quality product to paying customers."
