  1. Pretty cool, but I don't really get it. No bombers to protect? No other fighters to fight? What's the point? I didn't go to fighter school to ground pound!

You're right AB ... as far as I know, sofar no other WWII fighters or bombers, so this is a big negative point. however, still in beta version, so hopefully they will see the necessity?

  2. pre-ordered it.

eventhough it has been around 8 months or so that I last played IL2 for real, I consider myself a WWII flight sim veteran.

Now, not even taking the time to set up my controls (except for hotas & rudder ofcourse), I memorised the startup sequence (quite easy actually) and tried to take off.....

well, honestly, it took me 3 times to get in the skies. landing however was fine, until I tried slowing down on the runway.

anyway, as usual, DCS has the steep learning curve and believe this is a good, new challenge for me.

I've had it with IL2 and eventhough I enjoyed a good 5-6 years of that sim, the graphics of DCS and Cliffs of Dover (the latter eventhough still a disaster, performance-wise) are obviously day and night difference with IL2 1946.

Want to make some time (again) to fix a day of the week to get into these flight sims again. my preference will always go to WWII and Korean war fighters, but doesn't mean I'll always keep Lock-On in mind as well.

    Cheers /Inimigo

  3. nice, though the subtitles don't add up ... (referring to "SLOW" on the road). plus you guys keep driving on the wrong side .... you have the 'right' side of the road, and you have the 'wrong' side of the road :)

  4. Hey all,

can see a lot a regularly flying already, which is very good.

Topic, as you can see, is about MODS.

I have flown, over the years a variety of mods (Mainly HSFX, UP & Jet Pack) which all ended up just bothering more than they helped. It goes 2 ways actually, it broadens the game a lot, though many people use different mods and you end up with 3-4 versions of the game on your hard drive (each exceeding 10 GB ...).

Now, I gave up on that and have flown IL2 stock the other day with you guys, though miss the jet era (which is the last I used to fly --> N. Korea Mig 15 & 17's vs F-86's).

What I'd like to share with you, one currently still Work-In-Progress, are 2 things:

UP3 (UltraPack 3) RC4, which is very stable, including many jet fighters already (as the F-86 and Mig 15 & 17).

    and

    .....

    the F-4 Phantom !!! WOOHOO

Check the links for more info.

    F-4: http://freeil2moddin...-1-7-vt971.html

    UltraPack 3, RC4: http://ultrapack.il2...x.php?board=7.0

I can only recommend to go for UltraPack3.

As long as everyone follows the same MOD, there should be no issue. Starting to add additional jets (outside Ultrapack, let's say) is fine, as long as you donot host games with these extra's...

    Anyhow, food for thought.

  5. Durka-Durka & Viiiper (oldschool), hope you are playing this (again) too. Also still missing StevenADunn, adder360, Punisher & custard (believe Maj3stic used to join coops back in 2006 or so as well, right?).

Not sure if still around: Mutilator (although difficult with time difference down under), Zathruss, haven't spoken to you in ages.

  6. awesome news Zeno. I have indeed seen you playing IL2 in the past 2 weeks. Unfortunately I don't have the time to do about anything the last months, but will definitely look into joining a couple of missions when possible. traveling at the moment, but should be in Belgium again during week 3, so maybe I can then join some.

in February I'll be 'home alone' as well, so will surely fly together.

good stuff and looking forward to flying with you guys again. last time IL2 was played with all of you was around 2005-2007 if I remember correctly (was living in Brazil back then)

    cheers

  7. No, can't say yet we have a government (after 500+ days) ...

I can proudly say that I have become dad for the second time

Thomas is born on October 26th, 49,5 cm & 3,250 grams.

Both he and his mom are doing great; ofcourse my daughter and myself too.

I have accepted a new job within my company (same old same old: more work, less time, more responsibilities, etc.).

    Cheers

  8. alright, some training missions further: shot down some targets (although not sure yet which modes to use (vertical scan, BVR, Flood, etc) or exactly which missiles.

also landed a couple of times (including 1st time on a carrier, no issues --> thanks to years of IL2 :P)

    what I couldn't do for more than 5 seconds is air-refueling ...

anyway, hotas set up again (good this time), so hope to fly again with you guys soon.

something I do want to find out still is how to change your FOV (wider than default ...). I had a solution for it for IL2 (SAN'S FOV CHANGER), though since Windows 7, I'm unable to use it anymore (+norton believes it's a virus or worm or something).
