  1. And very underpowered. With ACE2, there's the M4 Shortdot SD for spotter use. Plus a lot of new rifles for the sniper. And the inclusion of a range card for each, and wind, and a wind meter (old-fashioned and electronic), and no spacebar ranging without the laser range-finder, and... Well, let's just say that I've wanted to try it all out with a human sniper/spotter. The vegetation on Namalsk is very well made for sneaking.
  2. Seriously, rename it from TacDom Fridays to Squad Fridays. That's the main issue. People think that "Tactical" can include aircraft, used in a "Tactical" manner. Plus, as said in the AirDom thread, the one thing pilots want most is interaction with non-AI ground units, and where better to get that ultimate thrill (which it is for most, if not all, pilots) than TacDom Fridays? And for those that don't know yet (or don't want to admit it), TacDom is geared towards infantry and squad maneuvers. It's not about using all the available assets, or having an A-10 to deal with the tanks you don't want to deal with. All the other servers still run while TacDom is on, so if you have issues, you can go play normally instead.
  3. Yep, me too. Sadly, it took them 3 tries to get it right (not fitting the paper properly, missing >1/2 the pages, then finally correct). At $0.50 per PAGE...It would have been about $165 to print in color. But, it's a bit cheaper at $0.10 per B&W page. It's one of those things that's about 500x cheaper to do at home if you've got the printer to do it (I got it done front and back, and I didn't want to do it myself anyways). I still payed about $80 including 2 binders and enough of those plastic page protectors for each page. And the poster was the original version of my avatar. $40 for a 2'x3' poster.
  4. I just DL'd the deluxe edition of Mr Murray's guide. Unfortunately, due to the copyright on it, the local Office Depot may or may not print it. I'll check in-store anyways though, as I've got something else I want printed (poster-sized) that's clear of any watermarks or the like. And SkeleTele, was it printed in color or B&W?
  5. Adder, many of the people here are VERY wary of airplanes, even some of the LGB-only ones. We may need to switch the name of Tactical Fridays to Squad Fridays.
  6. Will NARC Beacons attract enemy missiles? If so, it may be possible to plant a beacon on the ground (which would also hinder friendly missiles, be warned) to keep an enemy's missile payload out of the game.
  7. I've been having issues with the vehicle.sqf script running multiple init commands. That's my main issue with having the Apache respawn with Sidewinders. And I've never seen an AI UH-1Y copilot use the laser. It may require a player in the seat. Same with the MQ-9, but then it's more of a pain just keeping the laser on a target.
  8. Most of the editing material out there, even stuff from the way-back OFP days, is still relevant. The scripting language and editing tools haven't apparently changed much over the years. And the there's an app for the G15 (do you have the blue/black, orange/black, or color-LCD version?) called NGists Teamspeak Display that I use with my Mk2's (Orange/Black) LCD. It's not as good as having a separate monitor or a quick alt-tab, but when you just need an overlay that isn't on your screen, it works wonders.
  9. So is everything moved and placed? Or just the important things? Like the repair buildings and such. And is the first AO (TacDom AOs option) still Chernogorsk? Just starting out, I always see enemy AA and armor up on the hill between the base and the AO.
  10. Yeah, I've got an inert round myself. My dad got it from being Ammo (I think he got it in England). It's fricking amazing that the GAU-8 spews these things out at about 60 rounds per second. They've got enough enough kinetic energy to rip holes through most any armor out there. I'm jealous though. I was thinking about splurging on the THTG and 2 extra monitors back when I had a bit of money, but I don't have the system to run it anyways.
  11. So upped AA defenses, plus HMMWV (.50/M19/TOW convoys) and foot patrols around the base/spawn. All indestructible and with unlimited ammo (if that can be done). And would we be able to set the AirDom server up with a different admin password so that a few of us who would use it can simply log in as an admin instead of having to take the time to try and vote in someone (which can be a pain when there's more pubbies than Sparta regulars/members) just to kick someone or reset the map. Or is it possible to have an admin-only option like the old wreck chopper lock to set all the base buildings and defenses to full health?
  12. Version History? What's been fixed, what's going to be fixed?
  13. Remember that if it's a self-defense, CCW weapon, sometimes ammo means more than stopping power. I read a first-hand report of a guy who got into a "situation" with gang members using a .45 pistol himself. Doing a reactionary drill, he ended up using 3 rounds per badguy. 2 to the chest, 1 to the head. I can't find the source, so I'm quoting from memory. But, The Guy and his wife were out walking, wife didn't know that he was carrying. Got jumped by a bunch of gang bangers (it wasn't a surprise, they weren't very stealthy about it) and he drew. Seeing them having a gun, he went into training mode. Reactionary shooting...2 to the chest, 1 to the head if it was still there. It was the way he trained all the time. But basically, he had his .45 with about a 10-Rnd mag loaded. By the time he chased off the badguys, he was down to 1 or 2 rounds loaded. By his reasoning, if he had had to reload, it might have ended up badly. In a situation like that, where part of your drill is a killing-shot, caliber of ammo won't matter. A 9mm will kill just as well as a .45 when shot in the head. But having the extra rounds available from using a 9mm may be life-or-death. And this is all pulled from a republican-majority-gun/survival/zombie-nut web forum. I'm just posting this here because I saw the thread in the "recent updates" box, and thought that I'd share my views. It's not all about stopping power and caliber. But, if you want a .45, get a .45. I can't stop you. Oh, and I've shot my dad's XD9. It's the only pistol I remember shooting, so I can't do a good comparative analysis. But, the safety system (combined trigger/handgrip saftey. Either both used, or no firing) feels good. I think it would work better than the traditional mechanical (pin that blocks the trigger's movement) that I'm used to on my paintball markers. There was a noticeable number of FTE (Failure to eject), but I've been the only one to really put rounds through it, and even then I've only done between 50-60 at that.
  14. Funny part is that I have the exact same mouse that is used in the picture. Need a new one, though...the scroll wheel is breaking/broken after 2-3 years of daily, continual use. And the joystick support isn't fully integrated yet. I don't have access to many of the buttons and a few axis' that I should. Plus the missing sensitivity/deadzone setups that mean that it's easier to just use a mouse for now with mechs and vehicles. Though, the aerospace fighters do need the constant input that you can't get from a mouse. Once they get this finalized, and the in-game control scheme setup, you'll want a joystick.
  15. So the idea that people are asking for (without creating a second main server) is to keep the AirDom server a playground for the pilots, and give them more to do, without relying on people on the ground. But, as Adder said, it needs to be more than just blowing stuff up. Use some of the base Domination (pulled from the most current Sparta Bigdom) scripts to create a starting point. From there, a few things need to be addressed. - Things to do - Available Assets - Aircraft-soldier interactions. - Available player slots We get those solved, we get the input of the pilots, and we can work on fixing bugs and adding mods once we have an idea of what exactly the server should be like. This isn't a second full server. It's a playground to burn off some steam. We can use experience from the AirDom server to then start adding assets back into the main server. Don't treat it like another US Domination server. Whatever we do here won't affect the numbers and experience there.
  16. -Big AOs -More AO AA -More AO armor -Less AO Infantry/static positions -No camps/radio towers/etc. -a vehicle selection setup (go to a crate next to a hangar for aircraft, select, and *poof*) -simplified start (no more massive airplane spam, starts around 0700) -AI-controlled invincible airfield defenses (AA soldier patrols, avengers, and stinger pods on buildings) -Updated Aircraft selection (AH-64, no more russian aircraft) -Interactive missions --Airdrop - Take a tank crew to the AO. They help until they either die, or the AO finishes, where they despawn --Parajump - same as above, but between 2-3 squads of infantry --CAP - Enemy fighters/Helos are inbound to the AO, stop them --SEAD - Enemy has an AA position situated on a hill. Take it out (Tunguskas, or Shilkas and ZU-23 Urals) --Transport - (See parajump) Take a friendly squad to a (randomly marked, open, spot) landing zone near the AO. They are not in your group, but follow you into your helo/vehicle until within 10 meters of the AO (LZ marked by a small FOB. Repair/Refuel available once landing) -Single-person groups. (instead of being seperated into 4-5 squads like now) -AI recruiting (pilots, crewmen, squad/team leaders, riflemen, etc.) -1/2 slots are pilots, 1/4 are crewmen, rest are Spec Ops/Arty Officers (they are in one squad, BTW, except Arty) -No more "Elite" pilots flying around (bugged anyways?) -Bases at Krasno & Balota Airstrips for refuel/repair/rearm (teleport to/from available) -MLRS Arty Base (Run by AI, fire missions can be called by players) -Be able to recover enemy vehicles with the wreck chopper. All other US assets and all dead bodies get cleaned up. Would I do all this if I knew how? Yes. Saying that, do I actually know how? Sadly, no. But at least clean the mission up, make it more fun to play, and easier on some people's systems. Some of the "features" just seem tacked-on to me. OK, and looking back at what you said you want to do with Air Dom... Switch it from a bunch of completeable AOs to just one large area using the Ambient Combat Module within a certain zone. US, Russian, CDF, Chedaki, and NAPA (enemies to all/friendly to none) forces within just this zone. Make it very large (Centered around Guglovo, radius out to between Kabanino and the Sobors. Instead of the side missions we have now, use the ideas from above to help "influence" the battle (which will never end, BTW. The server will just restart/eventually crash due to so many wrecks and other stuff caused by griefers). Any unit dropped into the AO will stay and "seek and destroy" their mission zone (where you're supposed to drop them off at for side missions) unless either killed or a time limit is reached (where they then get despawned). This allows players a chance to do different "sorties" into the AO, instead of just going in purely to kill stuff. Add in a few AA encampments (total of 3? out of a possible 5-7 active at one time, if all the AA units from one gets destroyed, another position pops up in another slot. Give players something to think about.) and static bases (destroyed/respawn just like AA positions) for them to target with gunship raids/SEAD too. Add a sort of construction interface (player has to plant a flagpole at a point, can spawn at their own, teleport to all available. Attached to the in-game character. So the Alpha Squad Leader can plant a flag, but if the person controlling ASL disconnects and someone else uses that slot, they have to pull the flag to move the base. Limited to maybe 20 items per slot ( sandbag walls count as 0.25 items) to limit lag/exploiting. See the Cherno Life hideout construction setup) for players to set up bases and FARPS wherever they want. And with the allowance of new mods being possible, I'd say you REALLY need the GLT F-16 mod (the grey version with a custom Sparta tailfin marking if anybody in SPARTA knows their photoshop?) with only one skin set available (there's USAF, USAF Grey, EU, and Black skin sets. CAP/CAS/Bombs/GuidedMissiles/Multirole variants of each skin are available too) if this is going to be an AirDom server. At least it's not a full source code rewrite...
  17. It's all "Crash Crash Bang Boom" for me, but I'm trying to play. Having a blast just in the battle armor. Sadly, vehicles aren't heavy enough to tackle mechs, and they're not small enough to be stealthy. And the VTOLs are a small pain to operate without a joystick (which I'll master quickly once I get mine setup).
  18. odd, it fixed itself. Or, I restarted from the stock version and it hasn't shown up again. But you should start compiling a version history, stating just what you've changed in each patch.
  19. might I ask where the = is supposed to be? I've got an issue in an edited version of NewTac (that I'm keeping to myself, as I've got it set for AI instead of other humans) where I'm not getting the ammo box. Speaking of which, what did you do to make the slots human-only? Would it break the mission for me if I switch it back to allowing AI? I'm running the HC module so I've still got control over them.
  20. it will be nice when there's another dedicated server up. The current one has 32 slots and it's always full.
  21. Ah, but I've only half-taken that step. I have neither the skill, nor the want, to create a fully-fledged storyline-driven (or at least with story elements) mission. I've got a start point, an end point, and I need stuff to fill in the space between. At a later date, I'll build up a breifing. I'm asking you guys for ideas on what to fill in between the start and end.
  22. I'm already trying to pull the visual filter from EW. Maybe the soundtrack too if I can get that. But, I'm having issues with not knowing how he did it, and whether or not my init.sqf file is running during the game. The issue with placing checkpoints and such is that I'm giving players the whole map to work with. With so many options for movement, I need more ideas than what I alone can come up with. That, and, it gives you a chance to influence what the map turns out to be.
  23. Yeah, well, I don't have quite that much experience with the editor and scripting. And I need some locations for checkpoints. Just on the road leading south from the start outpost? And I've only got roughly 20 days before I'm going to reformat my desktop (not my laptop though) to get the crap off of it. After that, I won't be playing games and I'll be shipping off to BMT within a day or two. That's not quite enough time to get a fully-fledged mission with storyline and cutscenes out the door, but I can give you guys something playable and something which can be added onto later by the other excellent SPARTA mission makers.
  24. mechlivinglegends.net/forum/ look at the "MWLL has arrived!" post. It's currently a torrent file, so you'll need something to get that with
  25. Might you have missed moving a few scripts when you re-named the mission? That would cause issues, and I've done it before.
