  1. Is there a reason why I can't connect to the server from, say, japan? I know there's a few places I go where the available bandwidth is the factor so I don't mind, but I'd love to be able to hop on and work on my island during the down time. The same applies to the TS server, but not the forums (as I'm doing now). Any thoughts?

  2. I told someone on facebook, the GoPros are VERY popular, and I saw more than a few rigs being run by snowboarders/skiiers on the slopes. I've the company's old rig, and 'aint upgrading any time soon. It's no surprise that the USN, USAF, or USMC are using them to record training and what not.

  3. IMHO, the frag rounds for the shotguns were a BAD IDEA. I can deal with getting killed by claymores, C4, grenades, M320s, etc. But the frag round on an extended clip, fully-auto shotgun? Hecks no.

    Edited for applicable content...

I find that any of the burst-fire weapons are difficult to use versus the fully-auto. They have a tendancy to jam, and can't put out the same rounds that full auto can. however, when you're russian, it's your only option to use US weapons until you unlock the basics again.

  4. I hate the whole "OMG DICE! TEH M4 IS SO UB3R POWERFUL!!! I KEEP GETTING KILLED BY IT!!! NERF!!!!1!!" idealogy. I could go on about how to change it, but it wouldn't make it to the devs here.

Basically, any gun is useable. The more you use it, the fancier the unlocks you get. Personally, Assault I use the 416 with an ACOG, MASS or M320, and a heavy barrel. Engineer, it's the M4 or AKSU with holo, foregrip, and suppressor. I add the AT/AA launcher dependant (want - javelin), EOD bot for fun, and whatever in the last slot.

Basically, pick a class that matches your play style, and then try all the guns to see which ones you like. Don't worry about which one is better than another, your skill will more than make up for it (and lag is a non-issue. I play with you guys from Hawaii, and I still rank top despite any lag that may be present.

  5. I know everyone is kinda doing their own thing right now, and seeing the awesomeness that was part of the old server may take a little while, but is anything planned? I've got a minecart station setup under my island, just waiting for someone with creative privileges to make a network, and I was going to start a public nether hub, but trying to place it near the spawn just linked it to EMT's portal, which going into sent me to his house.

We've got all this land to use, why not do something fun with it? (that isn't a giant pedo minebear, or copy pasta aircraft carrier...) Or, see what people can do when limited to only materials they collect (like I've done with the Eastern Isles, which are still in-progress, and I want to add sooo much to them I can't decide what to actually do).

  6. Totally agree with this. I picked the game up on PC myself, and the only flaw I can think of is the(to me) wonky application of mouse and keyboard. I'll argue forever that FPS's should be played on PC, but I honestly believe that adventure games like AC should be used with a controller. I've got my settings cranked to max, and while the graphics are a step down from the truly tremendous (BF3, skyrim) the game runs butter smooth and without hiccups. I look forward to being able to play again when I get home.

  7. So.

What I listed is what I already have. I'm not planning on dropping any more cash any time soon. With a deployment rearing its ugly head as well, everything is going to have to wait a few months. By that time, I hope I can be out of the dorms, and have a proper desk to set everything up. Once that point rolls in, I'll drop the cash, build a second machine from the old parts, and get the new machine shined up for whatever new games push the limits.

I'm still wondering if anyone knows how I can go about transferring everything from an old HDD to a new one (I'm looking at the WD Raptor. I've got a 2TB external drive on order, that I'm going to hook up as a network drive. Don't need more space on the desktop with that rolling). Finally, any recommendations for a CD/DVD drive and Blu-Ray drive?

  8. The Story:

I recently dropped some cash on a new system that's currently Arma3-ready and decently future-proof.

    MoBo - MSi P67A-C43

    CPU - I5-2500

    RAM - Sniper 4gb x2 DDR3

GFX - EVGA GeForce GTX 570

    PWR - Corsair 750w

Decently good, yes? (Opinions are always welcome. Current plan is getting a larger case, new MoBo with room for +1 570, and 2 more monitors)

Well, if you notice, I skipped on a few parts. The HDD is a 3-year old WD 500GB from when the previous system was built, I can't identify the speed/capabilities of the disk drive, and the case is a non-issue (Antec 900. I want to add another 120mm fan to the empty side slot). Plus, I wouldn't mind getting a much better CPU fan (water-cooled?) than the stock I5 one.

I don't consider myself an expert in any way on hardware. Yet, I'm computer savvy enough to have put together the current system without instructions, and without breaking anything. So, I come to you all for help.

    The Question:

I want to take my HDD, and upgrade it. I'm looking for more space and more speed. The limitation, is that I want to make the switchover as smooth as possible, preferably swapping everything old-new 1-for-1. If it's anything beyond simple, I'm going to need help.

-Which hard drive do I get?

-If it's more than one drive in a RAID, how do I set them all up?

-Price limit? No. But, I am trying to save some money.

Bonus points for pointing me at a good disk drive, and a good CPU heatsink/fan. The future case is likely going to be an Antec 1200...When I get a desk that's larger than 2'x3.5'. Oh, and monitors. I've got an HP w2207, and I'm going to try and find another 2 or comparable.

  9. I'd agree that the news is getting A: More convoluted everyday and B: getting more distant from us. Most of what I hear about is third-hand from friends and co-workers (1: Events feed 2: The News who informs 3: Friends). THat's caused by a lack of television, and a lack of drive to read news online.

Heck, just watching/reading news gets me depressed. Intentional ignorance is bliss.

  10. An escalating firefight. Your delta squad is in first, stealth on, when you call for backup. First you get HMMWV patrols, followed by infantry in strykers, going up to M1A2's and AH-64s rolling in. On-call airstrikes (A-10s) and in-map mortar/artillery fire missions should be available, and dispersion set wide. The idea being to go from a pristine city, to complete ruins by the end.

If that's too hard, just having player-called A-10 LGB strikes or artillery fire would be awesome. And blackhawks/chinooks set to fire-at-will.

Bonus points if it's both SP and Co-op compatible!

  11. I had Audioslave's "Shadow on the Sun" rocking as we took off, and (to copy Zeno) by golly, it was awesome! I would love to see a full assault on somewhere (3 LB's, 5 squaddies per, pilots, + decoy/gunship blackhawk) with a video to back it up.

    Oh, and see

for the epic awesomeness that air assaults could become.
  12. Coincidence?

    Just upgraded to...

    MSI P67A-C43 Mainboard

    EVGA GeForce GTX570 Graphics

    Intel i5-2500 CPU

    8GB Sniper DDR3 RAM

    Corsair TX750w power supply

Keeping the Case, HD, CD/DVD drive, and all external components.

Arma 2 runs like a dream now!

Oh, and the i5 comes with a heatsink/fan. It took me a second to realize that when my old heatsink didn't fit on the mobo.

  13. The movie is a bunch of backstory (incl. good-looking women in skimpy clothing) with a few bits of mindless, time-warping (B-25 fighting a dragon!, Steam-powered nazi-zombies!), action sequences thrown in. To me, it was worth my $7 for 2 hours of movie. But, a friend who I brought along thought it was crap. So, YMMV.

  14. Hi! I've just completed almost 8.5 weeks of USAF Basic Military Training, and just happened to remember all of you while I had access to a computer and internet.

I'm officially going to be a Loadmaster, and I'm shipping off to the first bit of tech school on monday. I've got a few weeks/months yet to go with tech school, so I have no clue when I'll be able to reguarly play with everybody on Arma2 again.

Until then...Good luck and godspeed to all of you!

  15. Over a period of a few weeks now, I've been active on the forums a lot more. Little details have been starting to build up, and my views are starting to clash with the admins and members. Sparta's got a great thing going on here, but it's not for me.

So, in a combination of those things and Air Force BMT coming up in 2 weeks, I'll probably not be on the SPARTA Arma2 servers at all. I will still play other games until that time (MWLL), and pop onto TS (for those games), but I'm avoiding Arma. In a few months, when I get access to my personal computer, I may say hi and hop on the servers again for a game or two.

Until then...I wish you all good luck, and good hunting...Until then
