  1. Just wanted to say Arma is running well so far in multiplayer with settings on high full grass and 4500 VD im getting 60FPS! That was only at the base thought, Im going on now to play a few games to see how it really is........

60 FPS and on our servers?!!??

If so, I'm buying a new computer this weekend. Is your signature your final specs?

  2. I still don't consider SSDs to be worth buying yet. Maybe in a few years...

I have been mixed on this but I think I agree - the benefit isn't there yet for the load times vs the cost. I have been looking into a lot of this and while the speeds are double in regards to serial reads/writes, the speedup is going to be on loading an application or the OS.. but the impact once the application is live is very little (obviously its already in memory). Also much of what you do is random reads vs serial.

Check out this article: SSD vs HDD.

  3. Not sure that really covers my question. At the moment, other than Sahrani, no Sparta server requires an adding to jump in and play. Would all players require this addon to join the server, or is it optional. Mapping is much more central to shared gameplay than a digital compass or sound effects. I don't want to limit new players because they don't have an addon for the main servers. But if this is something that can be added to the server map pbo and the client doesn't need anything, I'm all for it.

  4. Well, one way of doing this is to keep a server passworded - lock it when the 'story' is on hold, and unlock when continuing.. but this uses up servers and not the best solution. I don't know of a way to save a MP game offhand, not even sure if there is the code for it to use or where the save would go.

  5. Zeno - one thing we may need to fix is that I think the server.cfg is not defaulting back to that map in mission cycle. Had to log into the server last night and restart the map for folks as the server was just sitting idle with no map chosen.

  6. Arma doesn't know how to handle anything over 2 gig of ram, and apparently doesn't know how to allocate memory well either.

Put in " -maxmem=2048 " in the command line to tell it how much RAM it has to play with.
