  1. Howdy folks, Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm and desire to participate in this project. The mission only has nine player slots, one of which is being filled by our guest, Evan. As for the remaining eight slots, I will give priority to those that replied to the post first AND are here on time in TeamSpeak AND ready to go with all required add-ons. Of course, real-life often upsets such plans as these; someone may not be able to make it, so for those on the alternates list, please be present on TeamSpeak at or before the specified time. ** EDIT 2 ** At the moment, these are the team members that have confirmed their intent to participate: 1. Evan Lahti 2. EBE 3. Hajimoto 4. Lightspeed 5. Peter 6. Watchman 7. Dai-San 8. Batwing 9. Jealco ** EDIT 2** Our alternates are currently: 1. IDAN 2. Donziboy2 3. Halli (who was gracious enough to be bumped down so that others might have a chance to play). 4. Yankee With that out of the way, I would like to add a couple of related comments. First, please bear in mind that this is far from the last mission video shoot I will be doing, and I plan on scheduling the next mission for the evening hours (in relation to North American time zones) so that others can participate at times more convenient to them. I will give a little more advance notice next time, and the procedure for participation will be the same. Second, Evan Lahti has already confirmed that, upon completion of the video, we will once again be featured on the PC Gamer Magazine website (and we'll likely get a mention on their podcast as well). It makes me proud to be a part of this group when I look at that list of team members; it's like something out of Tom Clancy's novel, "Rainbow Six"--an international group of soldiers working together for a common cause. Among other things, this project will showcase the diversity of our group, which is something that I think we can all be happy about. Best of luck to all of you in today's mission.
  2. Please be aware that Evan Lahti, Senior Editor for PC Gamer Magazine, will be joining us for this mission. As he is our guest, I ask that you try not to team-kill him too many times.
  3. I edited the first post, but I'll add it here as well: Mission start time will be 1PM PST/4PM EST/9PM GMT.
  4. Yes, please. I will be around at some point on Friday, hard to say when precisely. If you are around--and if no one else is making use of the server at the moment--perhaps we can load it up just to test it a bit. By the way, this is the reason that I am itching to get the whip cracking on the next video.
  5. Indeed, and thank you for the information! Most likely, I would pick such a tool apart to get only the bits I need. In this case (or for any other camera mod), what would be most useful is a button to jump immediately to the different players. You never realize just how effective camouflage is until you're trying to reacquire the squad as they move through a f****** forest during a g******* rainstorm with f****** fog rolling in so thick that I have to stop and wipe the condensation off of my g******** monitor.
  6. Hey guys, *** EDIT: TIME HAS BEEN SET *** Mission start time will be 1PM PST/4PM EST/9PM GMT. *** EDIT, Part II *** Evan Lahti, Senior Editor for PC Gamer Magazine, will be joining us for this mission. Please try not to kill him. At the moment, I am trying to film a successful mission completion of GR:IT mission #4. For the sake of everyone involved, I think that organizing these events in advance and setting the ground rules will ensure that everything will go as smoothly as possible. The event will take place on Saturday, March 12th. I will be available almost all day Saturday, from 2PM EST/7PM GMT until I can no longer keep my eyes open. If you would like to take participate in this event, please read the remainder of this post. 1. You must post a reply in this thread to be considered for inclusion; this tells me that you have read this post and know what the expectations are. Please indicate the timeframe(s) that you will be available to play. Once I have a good indication of when most people will be available, I will set a definite time. I need at least seven participants for this project. 2. Once a time for the event has been set, you must be on TeamSpeak and in-channel (ArmA Tac/TacDom, sub-channel Alpha) no later than 5 minutes after the set time. At that time, the channel will be locked/password-protected. 3. You must have all of the required add-ons installed and ready to go prior to the start of the event. Read through this thread to get links for the required add-ons. Please feel free to contact me if you need assistance with setting these up. 4. Please do not have any other add-ons enabled if they are not required, particularly any version of ACE. Failing to disable unnecessary add-ons can cause error messages to pop up on my screen, interfering with the otherwise clean video that I am attempting to capture. 5. Please ensure that you are using Push-To-Talk instead of Voice-Activated or Continuous Transmission. As this is for a video shoot, I don't want to have to try to edit out extraneous background noise from an otherwise good piece of footage. 6. As we all know, Arma is a demanding game. Please ensure that you are doing everything possible to get optimal performance and to decrease the likelihood of events such as system crashes--no torrents running in the background, performing a clean system reboot prior to event start, etc. You know your own systems better than I do, so please do whatever you feel is necessary. 7. TAC rules apply. This means clean comms and executing the mission plan as outlined by the Squad Leader. Remember, I will be recording everything from the moment that we enter the mission map until the mission is complete. As with all TAC missions, there will be no Join-In-Progress. I think I've covered all of the bases here. As this is my project, it is time that I assume all responsibility for assuring that these events run as smoothly as possible. Should you choose to participate, your adherence to the above is not only appreciated, but also necessary for participation.
  7. Good stuff. The set shows just how harsh life can be there, but it also shows how it has apparently become a second home to some of those soldiers; they look very relaxed in some photos.
  8. Indeed, and nice to see you getting the credit you deserve! Dai-San also pasted a link into TS the other day showing that someone at GameTrailers had made a post about this as well (which was primarily a copy of what was already on the PCG website). I think what we're all waiting for now is the news that some dev team offered you a job to go and work for them. When that happens, don't forget about us, the "little people"!
  9. I would be remiss in my duties as a good American if I did not do my part to help our economy tank. So, instead of going out and increasing the Consumer Confidence Index, I will be here.
  10. Glad to hear it went well, sad that I couldn't record it. The multiple restarts did my game in, and I should have known better, because it happens all of the time if I try to join multiple servers in a single Arma sessions. I will definitely be here Thursday if anyone is running this again. Or any other GR:IT conversion aside from Angel Rage, Jaguar Maze, and Ocean Forge (doing the editing work on this now).
  11. Thursday is certainly good for me. As for Wednesday, it all depends on what time I finish up my morning appointments; I will be on TS if I am able to participate. If we have enough people (let's say seven?) that are interested in playing, I would like to just be the cameraman again. But if you need bodies with weapons in hand, I will be happy to take the opportunity to redeem myself--yesterday, I led a good group of men to their deaths.
  12. Dear Guests, Welcome to the Legion of Sparta. As I'm sure you can imagine, the exposure that we have received from the article on PC Gamer's website has generated a higher volume of traffic than we are accustomed to dealing with, particularly from those of you interested in participating in the tactical style of play that was showcased in the videos. Before going any further, we ask that you read our Forum Rules & Guidelines at the following link: http://www.legionofs...php?showtopic=4 In order to facilitate tactical gameplay sessions for our new members and guests, we ask that you first give us the opportunity to get to know you (and for you to get to know us) by conversing with us using TeamSpeak 3. As we are a group of mature gamers, we do require that you be at least 18 years of age to make use of our TeamSpeak server. In regards to this rule, I'm afraid we cannot make any exceptions. Our TeamSpeak server address is: 81.19.217.250 port 9987 You will need to speak with one on the members (someone with the ~SPARTA~ tag) before your account for our forums will be validated. We ask that you use the same username in our forums and on TeamSpeak to avoid any confusion. Any of the TeamSpeak subchannels under the Open Chat/Social Channels/Chill channel are a good place to speak to us. At Legion of Sparta, we are about community and friendship first; we are not a "clan". The games, and the manner in which we play them, come second. Unlike many groups that focus primarily on a single game, or a particular game genre, you will find that the members and guests of Sparta have a wide variety of interests. Thank you for your interest in our little corner of the gaming world, and we look forward to speaking and gaming with you.
  13. No worries; I have saved ALL of the footage from these missions, so I am building up a library of clips that will reveal the awful truth in a "bloopers" video. So far, I have two favorites that will definitely be included: Steel's phone ringing in the background (the awkward silence between rings was deafening), and Dai-San blowing everyone up with a grenade before a mission restart. Dai-San also managed to get a grenade team-kill during Angel Rage--I hereby move that he be outfitted with extra grenades and an M203 for all future missions so the we can provide him with his own special section in the blooper video, "The Master Grenadier".
  14. Will do. And I have posted a 'thank you note' in the comments section for the article.
  15. Hi guys, Normally I would have included this in the threads for the video, but I think it's interesting enough to warrant it's own topic. I put links to our videos in a few places, including my own Facebook page. It was there that the videos were spotted by someone on my friends list: Evan Lahti, Senior Editor for PC Gamer magazine (US edition). One thing led to another, and now we have been featured on the front page of the PC Gamer website. Cheers all around!
  16. I would appreciate it if you would post some pictures afterward so that I, too, can vicariously enjoy your trip.
  17. Thanks to everyone for their kind comments regarding the first video. Thanks also for the critical feedback; it helped to make this second video better and has resulted in some cleaner editing. While my camera technique didn't improve a by a great deal (this mission and the one for the previous video were shot back-to-back), I realized that a lot of the quick camera movements made for footage that was somewhat difficult to watch during certain segments. As a result, most of that type of footage was left on the virtual editing-room floor. The software I'm using is still new to me--I've only had it a couple of months--and I am learning to make better use of it as I produce these videos. But enough of my rambling. I hope you enjoy the second installment, and as always, watch in 1080p if possible. Ghost Recon: Island Thunder Mission #2 - Angel Rage
  18. Thanks to you as well Kavlarakos for helping me getting straighted-out with the camera. It allowed me to take plenty of practice time before zero-hour.
  19. Thanks for the efforts of everyone involved! I had a great time putting this together, and the best part is, there are still more videos to come. As before, the 1080p HD version looks best if your bandwidth allows for it. Ghost Recon: Island Thunder Mission #3 - Jaguar Maze. Converted for Arma2 by Lightspeed~SPARTA~
  20. LOL, you're welcome. I would pay for the privilege.
  21. Taking a break from video production, which is coming along quite nicely. A few screenshots to whet your appetite...
  22. Howdy folks, Many, many thanks to everyone that participated in Lighty's GR:IT missions video shoot. There is a lot of video that I can't wait to share with everyone. ** WARNING ** Be advised that the final videos may contain graphic footage of rabbits and chickens.
  23. I know I will be up for it, because at some point I will need to take a break from video editing. All we need is for someone with server access to be present so that we can restart with the appropriate missions.
  24. To Zeno and Kav, I am currently consulting with my physician to discuss the feasibility of an operation that would allow me to bear your children. Thanks!
  25. No on-board is my only real recommendation. Otherwise, I'd say go with an ASUS or Gigabyte AM3 mobo that fits your budget. ASRock is also good, because it's a less expensive variation of the ASUS line. The build quality is the same, but they do use fewer high-end components. For example, you won't find an ASRock board with more than 2 PCI-E 2.0 GPU slots, and many of them only have one. For the purposes of future upgrade considerations, I recommend the higher-end ASUS models. Here's one example of something I would buy if I were in the market for an AMD mobo. It has a recent chipset that supports features such as SATA 6Gb/s. Because I am not a firm believer in the benefits of or need for SLI/CrossFire, I would be happy with the single PCI-E 2.0 slot.
