  2. That's where you find that fine line between Emergency Preparedness and being a Prepper. You can have supplies on hand, enough o get through a couple weeks to a month, but being a prepper is more about long term assets and skills to see you through no matter the emergency and no matter how long it lasts. I'll warn you though, the t.v. show Doomsday Preppers is NOT a very good representation of what Prepping is. No one preps for only ONE type of incident the way the t.v. show says. Many of the people showcased in the show are upset with the way NatGeo represented them.
  3. Hard to tell if they were showboating or if there really was a malfunction. I know it is easy to assume they were dicking around, but who really knows based on the video alone. Glad everyone is safe, but if they were showboating and fucked up, then I hope they have charges pressed. Those birds aren't cheap.
  4. Pretty well actually. It has kind of taken a back seat in acquiring physical goods lately because of some car trouble and having to sink extra coin into both of our vehicles. When this happens I shift from purchasing to learning and practicing basic skills and building small things like water purification systems or things like the Stove in the main post. I try to set aside about an hour a day to prepping, whether it is reading or logistics.
  5. I have been looking for one of those GI Yukon Stoves for a while now. They are getting more and more rare so when I do find one, it's about $250 to $300. Until I find one though, I am buying the materials to make one of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LgArTl_BSU
  6. But this is from Australia. I mean, I know everything is upside down there, but this one is just stupidity wrapped in fear.

  8. Simple drones with cameras have been an asset on the battlefield for years.
  9. Agreed. The problem with this situation is that action had not been taken early enough to A. call in reinforcements and initiate supply chain and relief for the fight, B. Then have Team A who is already in place continue to provide suppression, rearm and continue fighting from that position and Team B move to flank the enemy. OR C. instead of the prior and depending on the location and number of civilians, an air strike would be appropriate. Decisions weren't made till more than half of the ammo had been depleted and this is considered a partial failure of the Officer and the non-com team leader who should be asking the question. More often than not, this happens to be the situation or worse. Other than that, good representation of what it's like to be pinned into a position with fire coming from multiple positions of elevated cover. The danger is that the enemy suppresses the avenues of egress and then either puts a rocket or two into the center, mortars the location, or advances and sweeps with frags and small arms. Any way you slice it, it could be a bad day.

  11. Glad I have a place to visit come ski season! Seriously though, you and the family enjoy every moment you have. Congrats on the retirement.
  12. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
  13. It's one thing to lose a soldier at war. It is a whole different thing to lose a decorated SF veteran with 6 tours in the sandbox who earned four Bronze Stars to a house fire. Him and his two daughters. Read the article. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_NC_FAILED_FIRE_RESCUE?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-03-06-13-03-50 Chief Warrant Officer Edward Cantrell Some of you may be familiar with the 'Bixby Letter' featured in the film Saving Private Ryan. Although the circumstances are different, I think the wording is as perfect as it could be. R.I.P. Warrior and Father

  17. I know we have a bunch of gun owners that are both members of Sparta or Community members. I can't stress enough about gun safety and the Four Rules. Clint Smith has probably one of the best mindsets for instruction and he lays safety out in plain language. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6Y7LIJm5gI

  22. I think the merger will bering some versatility to MC but also, and more importantly, stability. Even though Spout is a very nice server platform, Bukkit has won the vast majority in use. If the bukkit team integrates bukkkit into the server edition of MC, we should see a huge reduction in downtime as MC and bukkit will be one. The downside is that it means more bugs in the MC core, probably more time between updates and the name Bukkit, will probably disappear all together. The only way I can see SPOUT working is if Mojang (including the Bukkit guys) releases a vanilla server version along with a 'bukkit included' version. If not, the Spout devs and any other server base devs, will have to over write or remove the bukkit elements in order for their code to work properly without major conflicts. This means more work for server mods devs but less work for mod devs because everything will be unified under the bukkit base. It's really a coin toss what will happen, but I am sure we will see something by 1.2 at the earliest but more than likely, 1.3. EDIT: The other and huge thing that this merger provides is the much called for integrated mod selection. Building bukkit into the core of MC will allow the devs to integrate mods into the GUI and framework of the program. This also provides easier installation of new Mojang content and DLC but also fan made content. Instead of updating the core of MC every time something new is added, they can simply release a free or paid for DLC pack that is the user's choice to install.

    ARMA 3 Info

I think with the opportunity they have with A3 to build the program from the ground up and not try to dumb down a preexisting simulation into A1 and then beef it up a little with A2 like we have all seen, they are taking this very personally and want to get it right. Not just for the fans and players, but for themselves and for my next point as well. The initial estimate for the release of A3 after it was announced was June 2012. This was because they had released previous titles in or around June in years prior. I am glad to see that they are not rushing this. The bad part is that BI may be trending to be competition with the larger FPS games which generally release pre-holidays. I'd very much like to see A3 give COD, MOH, and BF a run for their money, but at the same time I hope they don't go down the same recycle, recycle, recycle, path that the traditional titles have gone. Of course, this is speculation, but for the moment, it seems to make sense, even this early. I wouldn't bet the farm or anything, but competition is what drives an industry and BI needs to be the competition that wins out for the sake of PC gaming in general. My fingers are crossed.
