  1. Speed? No. Performance? Yes. Once SP1 came out, Vista got a whole lot better. You CAN notice a performance improvement with 64 bit over 32 bit and there are numbers to prove it but this depends of course on the software (and hardware too) being run of course. ;-) Vista is stable and doing ok at the moment. If you jump to Windows 7 now, you may have to be patient for some of the 64 bit driver support to catch up. This happened with Vista and was an annoyance at first. If I were you, knowing October is just around the corner...for Dragon Rising...oops ( )...I'd hold out for Windows 7 and get on the bandwagon from the start. My two cents
  2. 16 v 16 on PC (human vs. human) HOWEVER...EACH of those 32 can command a team of 3 AI characters as well if one sets it up that way. Dunno about co-op though...guessing 32 limit!
  3. Oustanding mountains! Good battles and challenging evacs for sure! Great find!
  4. This is a really good idea to implement here! The game's interest is growing and the enjoyment of being on with you guys is as well! I can try to make it to these events as well. Sounds like a blast!
  5. Guys, Hands down! Full server last night! Full choppers! Excellent battles! Teamwork was stellar apart from a select few! Thoroughly enjoyed myself! That was one of my top 5 best 'tactical evenings' and I just wanted to say Thank you for the games. Nice getting to play with you Custard and Durka as well. Plenty others in channel...too many to mention. These are the kinds of sessions that make people game addicts!! lol! Could have easily gone on through the night still but kids are reliable wake up calls and Church in the morning too! lol!
  6. 2 pm EST? If so then it's 9pm in Finland. Good to know though....maybe I can make it afterall.
  7. Lightspeed....yeah...umm...about that chopper ride...*cough cough* LOL! I'm still working out what I'm actually good at in the game. I've had some good games with you, Coyote, Zeno, Steel and others so far. I'm enjoying the way of play immensely! Wish I could play more...but that's probably a good thing! I've heard about the tactical domination nights. However being in GMT+2 in Europe it's an un-Godly time of night to be awake for so unless there's a Euro option, it's going to be tough. I'd sure like to give it a go though! Looking forward to future gaming sessions...and thanks for the patience and help too!
  8. Viiper (and other mission editors), Do you know where there's some good tutorials of LuaLua scripting? Of course, the mission editor will have some in built ones to use but if you want something a bit more complex, I suppose looking elsewhere will help. Any sources?
  9. I posted this question on the DR forums too but Viiper, do you know what the server requirements will be? Would be interesting to know how many DR instances could be run potentially on a box. Hopefully DR will give better fps than Arma2 as well.
  10. Thanks Durka for this! I was trying to figure that one out yesterday when coyote made a great set of markers to an LZ. Nice tips!
  11. Yes, Finland the great!! haha! Seriously though, it's nice to see some other guys from Finland here! Where are you from Kille? What are the times you're usually playing?
  12. So hard to believe this was eight years ago! Still feels like it could have been yesterday. This marked a start to a new world and changed the way we viewed it forever! I'm not American. I'm Canadian but despite the fact I live in Finland I still (along with many around the world) felt it as strongly as if I would be American in New York on that day. Many nationalities died that day and even more hearts were broken...all throughout the world. Lives were changed forever. May we never forget!
  13. Haha! Yeah I know the Aussies really suffer when they want to game with a group outside of Australia itself. ....and Yes the US server is excellent! Agreed!
  14. Ok, thanks! I must have gotten it mixed up with something else then!? Isn't DOM veteran basically crazy hard with no HUDs and friendly indicators, etc? That'd be good "practice" for this wet behind the Arma2 ears noob! lol
  15. Thanks for the link. I got: "Sorry, the link that brought you to this page seems to be out of date or broken" I assume it's basic privileges. My bad for double posting. If a moderator could merge my post with the thread, that'd be coolio cool!
  16. I checked the search out but didn't find a topic like this to my surprise. One of my personal favourite topics to read in game forums are the ones dedicated to the explanation of the in game names that we all have. It's another way to get to know some people and their way of thinking regarding their game name. Please treat this as my proactive way to get to know YOU! Some of the names are often funny. Some serious. Some sentimental. Some practical. Some describe character. Some are downright silly. In any case, it makes for good bathroom reading! To start, my name Jadecougar is the first and only game name I'll likely ever have. Back in the old days of gaming by means of role playing, there was a game called Battletech that was really popular in its time. It's basically Mechwarrior on paper and all you've got is a basic play board, a rule book, dice, and an imagination and you've got it all. My game name Jadecougar was born from playing this game. My character's callsign was this. The name has stuck through thick and thin to a point where I'm the only one with the name...at least to my knowledge. It describes the way I aspire to play (note the word "aspire" = not there but aiming to be there). Jade- is a great name, colour, and jewel that I like very much. The name reminds me of my work trips to Hong Kong and China a few years back. -Cougar describes the animal obviously. Rather stealthy. Likes to stalk its prey before it pounces with a load of attacking strength seen by few other animals. It's graceful and dangerous! This is how I'd like to play someday...many of you already fulfill that. What about your names?
  17. Sorry this is in general discussions....I'm not able to post yet to the Arma2 section. Moderators, please feel free to move this post if seen necessary. My question is about the UK server. If I recall correctly, that's a locked/private server? Is there a history with that that can be shared here? I'm just curious because some of us are in Europe and get a fairly high ping to the main server in the US. I love the coop that's on the US server but I wonder if there'd be some more traffic on the servers if the UK one would be opened up with a similar gametype? I'm new here and in no way wish to step on toes or decisions made for a specific reason. I'm speaking slightly selfishly about the personal ping benefit of opening up the UK server but am also thinking that perhaps more European "options" for the public could bring nice exposure to LOSC. Just curious. If it stays as-is, I'll work with the high ping to continue with some of the good people I've been playing with so far.
  18. You are right to some degree, limited by the size of the maps and "perks" .... not to mention the buddies you can play alongside in the server. I had set up a few tactical servers in the past. WaW in particular was very popular! Lot's were playing there. We had good admins! Then came the complaining within....a few RnG folk were complaining and started a rift.....most of which either left and then wanted only RnG after that. My response would be that 'tactical' in COD is definitely different than 'tactical' in say Arma2 (and likely OPF2 as well). I understand your point though. I've play COD games primarily and know fully what you're talking about. When it works it works well but nothing beats open warfare!
  19. LOL! That's one of the better lines I've heard! I'm no good player myself yet but I am a (former) COD only player. WaW killed the interest, as did my former clan's handling of the division. Having said that, open warfare is SO much better and still can have the intensity of the COD games. I have still yet the pleasure of playing alongside a ~Sparta~ member but the guys mentioned here I've played with already a few days and they've been great! Really good server guys...although my ping's a bit high but it's good nonetheless. Let's keep it up!
  20. Roger that! Will do just that then. Thanks!
  21. How are you liking that 4870 Lightspeed? I've got an X2 myself. One of the best purchases I've made. Great card and good investment for sure!
  22. BTW guys, I have tried to "apply" via the forum links and it doesn't allow me to do so. I assume this is due to my lack of privileges and that I'm a "newbie" around here, in which case it's ok of course. Was just thinking that it's hard to state my own intentions and for the Spartans to decide on those intentions without the application process. hehe! If I'm doing something wrong please let me know. If not, please let me know that too. Enjoying the times so far! Cheers
  23. MW2 will be a smashin' game for sure! It doesn't change the fact that it's built on (usually) small maps, people running, jumping around corners, dolphin diving, and is not much for "realism" It's a great game for fun, fast, bloody action...perfect eye candy BUT.... it's not open warfare that's for sure. hehe!
  24. Great post Durka! Would love to see this in action sometime! I need to to learn so much man! This is perfect! Thanks for the post!
