  1. The "Empire & Napoleon Total War? - Game of the Year Edition" just went on sale against at 50% off during the encore part of Steam's sale. Just thought I'd let anyone who was interested and missed the first sale.

I might pick up Medieval 2 as well since its only 10 bucks.

  2. I'm looking at the Total War Mega Pack and am intrigued. I've always liked the RTS genre, even though I'm terrible at them. Is there one specific game everyone is playing or is it a bit of all of them in the pack?

Also, is the multiplayer turn-based or real-time?

  3. Ok, is anyone other than Punisher and me still playing Mech? I saw Punisher yesterday briefly.

I try to play a bit everyday when I can. Its a good mod that is only going to get better.

It's always fun to have a fellow Spartan to play with. Even though I wasn't on TS, its good to play with someone you know and have a good idea of their style. Also, free money from people you trust to buy better mechs doesn't hurt either.

  4. I've been engrossed by the Winter Olympics, and really enjoyed this year's Games, although there were many dissapointments for the guys/gals I was rooting for. I used to run track (long jump), but I always wished I could compete in the Winter Olympics because of the sports and asthetics. I've become a big fan of the Skeleton, not only because a Latvian as supposed to win Gold, but the sportsmanship that was visible on that track was second to none in exhibiting the Olympic Ideals.

I'm really sad to see it go, but now I've got a few more sports to look forward to watching next year, and I can get back to work

I loved when the Canadian who won gold in the men's skeleton was walking around Whistler and someone handed him a pitcher of beer. He just started drinking it as he's walking along with his helmet in hand.

Just showed how much these medals really mean to these athletes.

  5. As soon as the final version is released, get this on our server!

This is ACE, there is no final version, only updates :P.

It will calm down eventually but I don't think we can ever expect a static version that everyone can rely on for a long time. Its just going to come down to controlling the version we use, the same way it happened with the original ACE in ARMA.

  6. Watched the great game today between the States and Canada. Probably one of the better hockey games you will see for a long time.

Hats off to the American team, who played great the entire tournament. Considering that this team was realistically built to gain experience going into the 2014 games, a silver medal is a huge accomplishment.

I'd just like to say that I'm proud of Vancouver for putting on a great Olympics that represented us Canadians well.

  7. MWLL was updated to version 0.2.0 today. Included in the updated is three new mechs (a light, medium and heavy), an artillery tank, redesigned maps to better fit the flow of the game and an anti missile system to deter long range missiles among other things.

The download can be found here. Note that the old mwll folder must be deleted for this to install correctly.

Feel free to catch me on TS if anyone has any problems or wants to give it a run through.

  8. Just wondering if anyone is still playing? I'm playing almost on a daily basis and was just wondering if any Spartans play anymore.

There is also a patch planned to be released on the 26th that contains a new mech, so hopefully that will drum up some interest along here.

  9. I think we can hold out some hope in the idea that the game will be tamable with server settings. I never really dismiss a game until we see reviews that says the game is a lost cause.

With RSE being involved, we atleast have some hope that some features of the game won't be horrendous. That possibility means that I will still consider the game when it comes out, but it is nowhere near the "instapurchase" status it would have been.

  10. I'll agree with you on that. The whole building destruction thing adds a ton to the game. I loved how you could take out a roof with an RPG if a sniper thought he was protected there. The way they have it now is maybe a bit much, but if it was toned down a tad, it would be one of the coolest/useful/balanced game features I've seen in a long time.

It just the other parts of gameplay that are there for "balancing" issues turn me off of the game. Give me a game where skill and tactics balance it out instead of having developers do 100% of the work artificially balancing it.

  11. Its not because its different from ARMA, because I expected that. Its the other small things, like weapon range and accuracy because of the ranking system. Since I am only a level one, they assume that I suck and give me a weapon that might be able to punch its way through a piece of paper at 10 feet, if it could hit the piece of paper that is. Not to mention the recoil makes the weapon bounce around like you're firing standing on a roller coaster

Its there artificial balance of the game to make people play to rank up instead of playing to win that pisses me off.

Did I mention that every single game I played came down to who could get their tanks pushed close enough to stop the other team so they could capture the objectives? People are running past the objective to get kills. The game does some things well but does the rest of the stuff so poorly that I'll pass.

  12. Waiting for Nvidia's Fermi is a terrible idea, seeing as its been coming "soon" for months now. Compound that with the fact you're without a card at the moment and ATI's 5000 series is your best option.

There is a difference between to two cards, as shown here. The 5870 does perform better, but as you go up in resolution, the difference between the two shrinks.

If I am to suggest something, I would probably say the 5850. While the 5870 is a very nice card, its performance doesn't really sound like its worth the premium to you. Also, if you have the opportunity, get a card from XFX. Best warranty from all of the board partners

  13. All depends on what resolution you play on and how often you usually upgrade. If you tend to keep with current/semi-current cards, a 5850 will do you good for a while. If you're looking at holding onto the card for a few years, a 5870.

The heat and power envelope for the cards are also important, but I'm sure you've already considered that.
